1. Military declares war on political thugs, warns politicians against violence
The Nigerian Military has warned politicians against inciting violence before, during and after the 2023 general elections.
It stressed that any political thug caught during electioneering period or on election day would be seriously dealt with.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, disclosed this during the operational briefing of the military in Abuja on Thursday.
He stressed that the desire to have a peaceful general election by Nigerians must come to fruition.
2. Anambra police arrest suspect over toddler’s murder
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Mr. Onwele Anayo, suspected for the murder of a three-year-old baby.
The incident was said to have happened on Wednesday at the Hillview Estate, Nkwelle, Ezunaka area of the state.
In a statement made available to journalists in Awka on Thursday, the state’s police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect allegedly murdered the toddler, whose name was given as Divine Eze, when he visited the father of the child and spent the night.
The police statement read partly, “The Anambra State Police Operatives have today June 16, 2022, arrested one Mr. Onwele Anayo ‘M’ aged 34 years on the murder of Divine Eze ‘M’ aged three years, residing in Hillview Estate, Nkwelle -Ezunaka.
3. We’ll prevent repeat of Owo attack – Amotekun
The commanders of the South-West Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, have declared their commitment to ensuring adequate protection of the lives and properties of the people within the region.
The commanders say they will synergise towards ensuring that a repeat of the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, where several worshippers were killed, does not happen again.
They made the declaration in Akure, the Ondo State capital, while on a condolence visit to the state on Thursday.
The visitors include Corps Commanders from Ekiti, General Joe Komolafe (retd.), Colonel Olayinka Olayanju (retd.) (Oyo), David Ajibola Akinremi (Ogun) and Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi (retd.), (Osun State).
The Ondo State Commander and Chairman of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who spoke on behalf of the others during a visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, said they were in the state to condole with the church, the victims’ family and the state in general.

4. FG raises freight rate for petroleum products
Days after transporters cried out over rising cost of operation, the Federal Government yesterday raised the freight rate for petroleum products across the country.
The government had in March this year hiked the rate by 25 percent from N9.5 per litre to N11.87/litre.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, in a statement in Abuja said the rate took effect June 1, 2022.
The statement read: “Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has considered and approved the upward review in freight rate for transporters to alleviate the challenges associated with the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) nationwide

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the June 18th Governorship Election of Ekiti State, Segun Oni has said he is confident of victory in the forthcoming election.
Oni, while speaking on Channels TV political show, Politics Today, Thursday stated that he would win in no fewer than 14 out of the total 16 local governments in the State.
6. Mbaka: For sustainability, Nigeria needs Peter Obi’s ‘stinginess’ – Bianca Ojukwu
Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of late Biafran leader, Odumegwu Ojukwu has shared a story on the supposed stinginess of Peter Obi.
Ojukwu was reacting to a statement made by a popular cleric, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria, AMEN, Fr Ejike Mbaka who revealed why the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi will never become the next President of Nigeria.

7. PFN vows to work against Muslim-Muslim ticket
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria(PFN) has vowed to work against any party that presents a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential ticket.
Its National President Bishop Wale Oke threatened that Pentecostal Christians will vote massively against such party in 2023.
He spoke on Thursday with reporters in Lagos shortly after the National Executive Council(NEC) of the body.
Oke said PFN is against Muslim-Muslim ticket because ” it is against the principles of fairness, balance, equity and justice.”
According to him: “Muslim-Muslim ticket means over 54 percent of the population will be marginalised and shut out. If the party doesn’t listen to us, then they will meet up at the polls.”
8. Uneasy silence in Rivers over Okowa as Atiku’s running mate
The emergence of Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, as running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has caused unusual quietness in Rivers State.
Most stakeholders of the PDP in the State were said to be disappointed at the last- minute horse trading that produced Okowa ahead of Governor Nyesom Wike.
The Government House and PDP leaders on Wednesday celebrated reports that Wike had been recommended by the PDP’s Advisory Committee as a running mate having reportedly won 16 votes to defeat Okowa, who got only three votes.

9. ‘Stingy man’: Catholic Church reacts, disowns Fr Mbaka for attacking Peter Obi
The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has condemned and dissociated itself from inflammatory political utterances by Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the Director of Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu.
Recall that Mbaka had on Wednesday described Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi as a ‘stingy man, declaring that unless God ceases to exist, Obi would never smell the seat of the president.
According to him, it was better to have an old man as president than a ‘stingy young man.’
Reacting, the Bishop of Enugu, Rev Ernest Obodo, in a statement on Thursday, said Mbaka’s inflammatory political utterances were divisive and they contravene the canon 220 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law which prohibits anyone from illegitimately harming the good name of a person.
10. Ekiti decides: IGP sends strong warning to vote buyers, troublemakers
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Usman Alkali Baba has warned troublemakers, vote buyers and others to steer clear of Ekiti State gubernatorial election scheduled for this Saturday.
The IG stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting with the governorship candidates, political parties in Ekiti State ahead of Saturday’s poll.
He further charged the police officers and the personnel of other security agencies participating in the poll to be professional and apolitical during the discharge of their duties.
The police boss further reiterated that the force is working in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in creating a conducive and enabling environment that will guarantee the peaceful conduct of elections in the country.
