1. Nigerian doctors practising abroad regretting action, says MDCN

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has advised newly inducted foreign-trained doctors to consider practising their medical profession in the country, instead of travelling abroad in search of greener pastures.

The MDCN said many of the doctors who had migrated to other countries are currently regretting their action, given the discrimination they face in the workplace.

The Registrar of the council, Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, said this on Thursday during the induction of 477 foreign-trained medical and dental graduates, comprising 469 medicine graduates and eight dentistry graduates.

2. Nine-year-old survives Lagos train crash, mother in critical condition

A nine-year-old boy, identified simply as David, was among the survivors of the train accident that occurred on Thursday at the PWD area of Lagos State.

David was sighted with a bruise on his face while lying in one of the beds placed under the tents provided for the victims on the premises of the surgical emergency of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

A victim of the crash who had a minor injury and craved anonymity said the primary school pupil was sitting beside his mother in the bus when the incident happened.

3. IS claims Afghanistan attack that killed Taliban gov

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility Thursday for a suicide attack that killed the Taliban governor of Afghanistan’s Balkh province.

An IS fighter waited for the governor outside his office and “rushed towards him, detonating his explosive belt,” the group said in a statement on its Amaq news agency.

4. APC’s National Chairman declares support for Sule’s re-election

National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, on Thursday in Keffi (Nasarawa State) declared support for the re-election of governor Abdullahi Sule.

Speaking at a grand rally in support of the Nasarawa State governor, Adamu urged the electorate to turn out en-masse and vote the sitting governor given his giant strides in the last four years.

He said electing the governor for a second term of office would afford him the opportunity to complete the works he started in his first tenure.

5. Lagos train/bus accident: Buhari sympathises with victims

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sympathy over the accident involving a train and Lagos State BRT staff bus Thursday in the Shogunle area of Ikeja.

In reaction to the incident, President Buhari said:

“The accident at the level crossing involving the train and the BRT staff bus is distressing and extremely sad. I pray for the souls of the deceased and quick recovery of the many who were injured.”

The President in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, commended the Lagos State authorities and Federal Government agencies for promptly getting involved in relief work.

6. Ogun East PDP, ADC stalwarts decamp to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Local Government chairmen, secretaries and executive council members in Ijebu East, Ijebu North and Ogun Waterside local governments on Thursday dumped Ladi Adebutu and declared support for Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The decampees were led to the Itoro Hall in Ijebu-Ode by Kehinde Bello, a former House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the PDP from Ijebu North / Ogun Waterside and Ijebu East Federal Constituency.

Also, at the event were members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ijebu North, Ijebu- North East, and Ogun Waterside local government areas.

7. BRT driver ignored our warnings, Lagos train victims allege

ome of the victims of the train accident between Shogunle and Ikeja have blamed the bus driver for the incident.
According to them, the driver ignored their caution when they told him not to cross the rail line.

The victims, who suffered various degrees of injuries, spoke at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja where they were receiving treatment.

Kazeem Abiola, who had a cast around his neck, told The Nation that he sat near the entry door.

8. Train accident: Lagos Speaker Obasa suspends political walk

The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, has suspended a political walk in honour of those who lost their lives in a train accident that happened in Ikeja on Thursday morning.

Obasa announced the suspension of the walk in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a passenger train collided with a Lagos State Government staff bus on its way from Ikotun enroute Alausa, the state secretariat, at the PWD area of the state.

The speaker described the train accident as a sad occurrence and sympathised with families of the victims.

9. State polls: APC backs INEC postponement, insists Tinubu’s election credible

The All Progressives Congress (APC) said it respects the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the governorship and state house of assembly elections.

The national exercise was Wednesday night moved from Saturday 11th March to Saturday 18th March 2023.

The shift followed the ruling by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on the reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) used for the presidential election.

10. Ogun East PDP, ADC stalwarts decamp to APC
