1. We’ll track progress of incoming governors, lawmakers — IPAC

International development partners should support the efforts of the Inter-Party Advisory Council to improve governance by empowering political parties through capacity building, its national chairman, Yabagi pleaded on Thursday.

According to him, IPAC was planning to monitor the progress of the 36 governor-elect toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals through the peer review mechanism.

Sani stated these during a meeting with Nigeria’s development partners including the Chinese Embassy, the International Republican Institute (United States), and the National Planning Commission.

2. NSSF makes case for grassroots sports development

The President of the Nigeria School Sports Federation, Mrs Olabisi Joseph said sports development starts from the grassroots development programmes and training.

Joseph said this on Thursday at the 23rd Milo Basketball Basketball Championship Central Conference finals in Abuja.

“When you talk of sports development, it starts from the grassroots. We have to find a way of getting the children engaged in sports. The benefits are enormous.

3. Institute seeks more funding for agric sector

An agricultural research Institute, Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security has called on the incoming administration to allocate 10 per cent of the country’s budgetary allocation to the agricultural sector to address the looming food insecurity in Nigeria.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation projected that about 25.3 million people in Nigeria would face acute food insecurity during the June to August 2023 lean season.

However, speaking at a workshop in Abuja on Wednesday, the Communication Manager/Researcher at the organisation, Dr. Benjamin Oyelami, said the predicted food insecurity in the country could be tackled with more commitment from the Federal Government.

Oyelami also said appropriate usage of farm input as well as the sustainable management of soil could help the country overcome the situation.

4. El-Rufai set to demolish ex-Gov Makarfi’s landed properties

The El-Rufai-led Kaduna State Government has allegedly revoked the Right of Occupancy of 9 companies linked to the former Governor, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi.

Journalists were told that the properties have been slated for demolition, allegedly.

The notice of revocation and withdrawal of the right of Occupancy was served to the officials of the affected companies in the State on Thursday afternoon.

5. 10th NASS: M-Belt youth leaders caution politicians against using religion for political gain

The Coalition of Middle Belt youth leaders has cautioned politicians against using religion to gain political advantage.

The leaders warned that such actions could exacerbate already-tense religious tensions in the country.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the youth leaders argued that such tactics were divisive and could lead to violence, particularly in the Middle Belt region where religious tensions have been high in recent years.

6. Buhari grants 65 ex-Corps members automatic employments

President Muhammadu Buhari has granted automatic employment in the Federal Civil Service to 65 former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Speaking at the NYSC 50th Anniversary Honours Award held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Thursday, the Nigerian leader also highlighted numerous achievements of the scheme since its establishment 50 years ago.

The president said out of the 65 recipients, 52 individuals received the Presidential Honours Awards, while the remaining 13 were physically challenged ex-Corps Members recognised under the NYSC Hope Alive programme.
