1. Hoodlums attack FCT task force, injure police officer

Some hoodlums, on Thursday, attacked members of the Federal Capital Territory Administration Task Force at Gaduwa District of Abuja.

A police officer was said to have been injured, while other members of the team were taken hostage by the hoodlums during the attack.

Those held hostage, it was gathered, were later released, following a rapid response from the rescue team of the FCT Police Command, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations, Bernard Igwe.

Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah, confirmed the incident.

2. I’ll protect your business interests, Sanwo-Olu promises Igbo traders

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, pledged that his administration would continue to protect the business interests of the Igbo people across the state.

The governor also promised to make the state habitable for non-indigenes that abide by the laws of the state.

Sanwo-Olu said his administration would continue to seek peaceful co-existence among all ethnic nationalities cohabiting in Lagos, stressing that the ethnic groups must see themselves as different sides of a coin that shouldn’t have anything against one another.

Sanwo-Olu made the promise at 2022 All Markets Conference organised by the Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association in Amuwo Odofin area of the state. This was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, titled, ‘Igbo traders to Sanwo-Olu: ‘We want you again’.

He said: “We have to come to the understanding that we all have different roles to play in keeping Lagos safe for business and living. We are all important stakeholders in Lagos project, whether it is Government, traders or private sector individual. We must continue to foster peace and harmony through an avenue like this conference, using the interaction to make Lagos better for everyone of us.”

3. 2023: Amaechi picks N100m APC presidential form

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has obtained the N100 million presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination forms of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He obtained the forms at the ruling party’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

4. 2023: Nnamani picks APC form, says jettisoning zoning‘ll amount to injustice

Sen. Ken Nnamani, an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, says it will amount to injustice for the party to jettison zoning in the 2023 general elections.

He said this on Thursday in Abuja shortly after picking his Nomination and Expression of Interest form for the 2023 presidential race.
The former Senate President said that zoning had become a reality in the nation’s political history.

He said that the agitation about zoning by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, was a justifiable one.

5. 2023 Presidency: North can’t be intimidated — ACF

The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has said gone were the days Northerners felt  blackmailed and intimidated by threats of restructuring, secession, break up or break down of Nigeria.

The forum in a statement issued by the Secretary General, Murtala Aliyu, said the North had never been opposed to the election of any Nigerian as president, neither has it sought to dominate any part of the country.

It, however, said the north would not submit itself to be relegated to serfdom.

6. APC gets first female presidential aspirant

The All Progressives Congress (APC) got its first female presidential aspirant on Thursday as Ms Uju Ohanenye, bought the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms in Abuja.

She told newsmen after picking the forms that male aspirants in the race would not succeed in intimidating her.

“My fear is that men will want to muscle me out, but I am standing firmly for the people I am here to protect.

7. Man breaks into Soun’s palace, claims throne

A man broke into the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso yesterday, violently laying claim to the vacant throne.

He attacked and knocked off the teeth of a palace chief,  Sheu Ayinla,  during the intrusion. Ayinla is the Aremole of Ogbomosoland.

The intruder whose name could not be ascertained as of 11 pm yesterday claimed that he would soon be installed as the new Soun.

Chief Ayinla, who narrated the incident told reporters said he was in the palace to ensure that everything was normal when the intruder attacked him

8. We’re battle ready to embark on protest, says NANS

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Sunday Asefon, yesterday said the union was prepared to hit the streets to protest the strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Asefon, who spoke during an interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, lamented that the Federal Government appeared not to be interested in ending the strike, as it was focusing on the coming 2023 general election.

He urged the government to stop playing politics with the ASUU issue and resolve the prolonged strike.

9. Strike: SSANU, NASU resume talks with FG

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), on Thursday, resumed negotiations with a view to finding an amicable solution to the lingering industrial action.

Speaking at the resumption of talks between the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Unions and the Federal Government, the General Secretary of NASU, Comrade Peter Adeyemi, said the meeting initiated by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige appears to be yielding some desired results.

Adeyemi, however, bemoaned the circumstances that led to declaration of the strike, saying they were equally pained that this action has been prolonged by the government.

10. Zulum dissolves Borno State Executive Council

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the dissolution of the Borno State Executive Council.

The dissolution, which is with immediate effect, was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, Danjuma Ali on behalf of Secretary to the State Government and made available to journalists by the governor’s spokespersons from the press unit of the Government House in Maiduguri.

The members were directed to handover affairs to permanent secretaries in their ministries.
