1. Lagos guard kills ‘tenant’ over rent payment
A security guard with Corporate Victoria Gardens Security Company, Desmond Gudyu, has allegedly punched a 26-year-old man, Akeem Nuhu, to death during an altercation on Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
Gudyu, who was employed to guard a building in the area, was said to have accommodated Nuhu in his security post after the latter agreed to pay him rent.
Trouble started on Monday, October 10, when Nuhu, who worked as a motor boy in a pure water company, failed to pay the agreed sum.
This reportedly led to an argument between them as Gudyu allegedly punched Nuhu, who fell and died.
2. Jonathan sympathises with flood victims, calls for solidarity
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has sympathised with victims of the ravaging floods across Nigeria.
He calls charges citizens and humanitarian agencies to demonstrate solidarity with the victims while appealing for support.
The ex-president expressed these in a statement posted to his verified Facebook page late Thursday.
Jonathan, who visited some affected communities in Bayelsa State, including his Otuoke hometown, said it was “a depressing situation in many of the affected communities because of the magnitude of the flood and the disruption and destruction it has caused.”
3. Naira redesign not economic priority — CISLAC
The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre has said that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s plan to redesign 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes is not an economic priority for the country, considering the current challenges facing the economy.
The Executive Director of CISLAC, Auwal Musa, made this known in a statement on Thursday, adding that there are more pressing needs that the CBN ought to attend to, to set the economy on the path of revival.
Musa added that Nigerians’ concerned reactions to the announcement was proof that the decision is a misplaced priority on the part of the CBN.
He said the CBN should be more concerned with protecting foreign exchange reserves from external outflows and making forex available to the ordinary citizens who genuinely and legitimately need it, adding that the huge blow to foreign direct investment was tantamount to the inability of the CBN to do its job effectively.

4. Court hears Nnamdi Kanu’s N20bn suit against Malami, NIA boss Nov 18
A Federal High Court, Abuja has fixed Nov 18 for hearing a N20bn suit filed by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, SAN.
Justice Inyang Ekwo fixed the date for hearing the suit, which also has the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency (NIC), Ahmed Abubakar as a defendant.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kanu, through his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, had filed a writ of summons marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1702/222.
5. Warri Refinery’ll deliver fuel first quarter of 2023 — FG
President Muhammadu Buhari has said Warri refinery rehabilitation works, when completed, will deliver fuel production before the first half of 2023.
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President Mr. Femi Adesina, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed delight as he witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd and Daewoo Group for the rehabilitation of the Kaduna refinery.
6. Sanwo-Olu prioritises infrastructure, environment, others
GOVERNOR Bababjide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, yesterday, presented the 2023 Appropriation Bill of over N1.692 trillion before members of the House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
The presentation of the 2023 appropriation bill for the fiscal year, themed ‘Budget of Continuity’, was held at Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, Ikeja.
The current budget size is N66 billion less than the previous 2022 budget of N1.758 trillion.

7. EU engages ambassadors to promote partnership in Africa
The European Union (EU) has engaged Teniola Akpata, a popular artist and Eniola Adeoluwa, brand influencer , as ambassadors of a campaign to promote its partnership with Africa.
The EU ambassador to Nigeria and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ms Samuela Isopi, disclosed this at a briefing Thursday in Lagos.
She said the campaign tagged, ‘We See Africa,’ would strengthen the EU’s long-standing partnership with Africa to transform lives and inspire hope across the continent.
She said the campaign would run simultaneously in Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, and build on the success of a previous one conducted across seven other African countries from 2020 to 2021.
8. Firm to support farmers
With nearly 110,000 hectares of farmland completely destroyed by flooding since August the country fueling the fear of food shortage, a financial technology firm, Tingo Mobile Plc said it is stepping in to address food insecurity in Nigeria by supporting small scale farmers.
Tingo had earlier signed a deal in Abuja with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), to aggregate over 20 million of farmers in the association.
Speaking while signing a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the association, President of Tingo, Chris Cleverly said the development will see Tingo provide inputs to farmers, especially fertilizer, tractors, chemicals, seeds, sprinklers, loans and smart phones devices.
He said the move is aimed at addressing growing challenges of food insecurity in Nigeria, adding that there was a need to support rural farmers with initiatives that would boost their output.

Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 Nigeria elections has arrived in the United States of America.
The former vice president and his entourage are in Washington D.C., for political parleys and consultations.
Atiku flew to the U.S, alongside the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign, Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
Others are ex-Imo Governor Emeka Ihedioha, and business mogul, Raymond Dokpesi, both key members of the campaign team.
They were received by ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, House of Representatives Minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu, ex-lawmaker Dino Melaye, Atiku’s Special Assistant Phrank Shuaibu, among others.
