1. Tinubu returns from UK amid rumoured ill-health
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has returned to the country after weeks in the United Kingdom.
The whereabouts of Tinubu has been the question on the lips of some Nigerians in recent days.
In a tweet on Thursday, presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, said Tinubu had returned to Abuja.
He said, “Our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja from London.”
2. Kogi court remands pastor for alleged culpable homicide
A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Lokoja has remanded Pastor Peter Michonza of the New Jerusalem Deliverance Ministry, Ageva, in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State at the Federal Correctional Centre Kabba for 14 days.
Pastor Michonza was arrested on September 19, 2022, by the Department of State Security following an outcry by the people of the local government and the council chairman over allegations of running labour wards for pregnant women in his church, and selling “bulletproof” water to the people, amongst other medically unacceptable practices which have led to the death of many innocent people.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Abdul A. Umar, gave the order on Thursday, following the experte application by the Department of State Services to remand the accused person to enable them continue further investigations.
In an experte application, the accused person was alleged to have committed culpable homicide, causing miscarriage and impersonation punishable under sections 224, 232, 433 and 325 of Kogi State Penal Code.
The suspect will be charged to High Court of Justice after the preliminary investigations are concluded.
3. Terrorists attack Zamfara, escapees die in boat accident
26 people were said to have lost their lives in a boat mishap when they were trying to escape terrorists’ attack in Birnin-waje village of Bukkuyum local government area of Zamfara State.
An indigene of the village who gave his name as Musa Sani told The PUNCH that, the incident happened when the people of the village, who were attacked by terrorists last Wednesday night were trying to escape in a boat.
He maintained that as they were in the river, the terrorists arrived at the scene and opened fire, as a result of which the boat capsized, killing 26 people.
“The victims who were mostly women and children were in a boat trying to escape the bandits attack but unfortunately the boat capsised, killing 21 children and five women.”

4. Gas explosion: NMDRA shuts three gas plants in Nasarawa
FOLLOWING the increasing cases of gas explosion in some parts of the country, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority (NMDRA), Nasarawa State, has shut three gas plants for violating the regulatory law in the state.
The authority has equally warned operators to desist from flaunting safety measures to avoid cases of explosion in the state.
Controller of NMDRA in Nasarawa, Ahmed Gwaram, who gave the warning in Lafia, said, safety in the Petroleum Gas subsector was becoming a source of concern to Nigerians and other stakeholders in the industry.
5. Woman beats 3-yr-old grandchild to death in Anambra
A 37-year-old woman, identified as Udeogu Chinelo in Awka, the state Anambra state capital was arrested for beating a three-year-old granddaughter to death.
In a statement released today, the spokesperson of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) command in the state, Okafor Anthony, said the suspect was arrested in a primary school in Awka where she had earlier enrolled the victim and had gone to collect back the school fees she paid for the victim.
”While being questioned on the whereabouts of the victim, she disclosed that the victim had died,” he said.
6. Okowa calls for improved conditions of service for healthcare professionals
Delta Governor and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday, called for improved condition of service for healthcare professionals to discourage their migration from the country in search of greener pastures.
Okowa made the call when he received members of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria led by Prof. Abubakar Auwal who visited him at Government House, Asaba.
He lamented the exodus of medical doctors and nurses from the country in search of greener pastures and said that healthcare providers should be provided with facilities to enable them to discharge their professional duties as a way of halting the brain drain in the country.
According to him, the federal and sub-national governments should do the needful by prioritising healthcare delivery through a deliberate policy framework that would enable the country to retain its healthcare professionals.

7. Nigeria prepared for evolving security threats – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Thursday that Nigeria was prepared to address the evolving and complex security situations confronting the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 237 cadets were commissioned as officers into the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Buhari noted that the goal of terrorists, insurgents and their sponsors was to destroy the reforms introduced by his administration to prevent collapse of the economy and revitalise the armed forces.
8. FG asks court to dismiss ASUU’s appeal
The Court of Appeal Abuja Division will on Friday decide the fate of the two applications filed by the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), challenging the interlocutory injunction of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), asking members of the union to go back to work.
The Federal Government asked the appellate court to dismiss the appeal for being incompetent.
The court fixed the date for the ruling after hearing the submissions of the counsels to ASUU, Femi Falana and the Federal Government, James Igwe.
When the matter was called, Falana told the court that he filed the motion on notice for two main reliefs, the first for leave to appeal, dated September 28, 2022 and the second, for a stay of execution of the order of the lower court, dated September 23, 2022.

9. AIG cautions PCRC members against forming parallel organizations
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar AIG Okunlola Kola Kamaldeen, has cautioned members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) from forming parallel organisations.
This on the the backdrop where members within zone six are forming similar organs in the South-South region whereas the police do not operate such geo-political structures.
In a statement signed by the zone six PRO, Supol Nelson Okpabi, the AIG cautioned one Ambassador
Mfon Jacob, who allegedly championed the formation of and heads the South-South PCRC to register and work with the extant PCRC as a para-security group so to bridge the gap between the Police and the people rather than run parallel organizations.
10. Ex-HOS, Oronsaye faults EFCC’s investigation into alleged N191m pension fraud
A former Head of Service of the Federation (HoS), Mr Steven Oronsaye, on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja faulted the mode adopted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the investigation of the alleged malpractices brought against him in relation to Federal pensions.
Oronsaye, who was cross-examined by EFCC lawyer, Oluwaleke Atolagbe, claimed that EFCC came to some wrong conclusions in the ways and manners the allegations against him were investigated.
Specifically, the former Head of Service explained that EFCC chose to pick only payment vouchers rather, whole files in the contract award, hence the anti-graft agency could not arrive at just conclusions.
He claimed that the award of contract and running of government was a process involving files moving from one place to another adding that EFCC ought to have worked on entire files rather than picking only payment vouchers to conduct investigation on.
