1. Sudan military-paramilitary clash unfortunate — Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Sunday, described the clash between rival military factions in Sudan as “unfortunate.

He also said the war-torn country deserves a season of relative peace after decades of infighting.

“The situation in Sudan is unfortunate,” Buhari said when he received the Transitional President of Chad, Gen. Mahamat Itno, in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

According to a statement signed by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the two leaders reviewed the situation and called on all neighbouring countries and the international community to prevail on the warring sides to negotiate.

2. Don’t extend Immigration Chief’s tenure, group urges Buhari

The Concerned Nigeria Immigration Stakeholders, on Sunday, urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), not to extend the tenure of the acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Isa Idris.

They warned that such a move could spark internal disputes that may snowball into full-blown protests by the service’s personnel.

In an open letter to the President sighted by The PUNCH and signed by the group’s spokesperson, Akinwale Dennis, the group claimed it was aware of ongoing moves by Idris to lobby for a tenure extension after his current term expires on Monday, April 24, 2023.

The letter is titled, ‘Dear President Muhammadu Buhari, please save Nigeria Immigration Service.’

3. Fighting continues in Sudan amid humanitarian operations suspension

Fierce fighting raged in Sudan’s capital despite an hours-long pause Sunday to address humanitarian needs including the evacuation of wounded, on the second day of battles that left three UN staff among more than 50 civilians killed throughout the country.

The World Food Programme said it was suspending operations in the impoverished country after the killing of its three workers.

The battles between the powerful armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) sparked an international outcry and regional concern, including border closures by neighbours Egypt and Chad.

Deafening explosions and intense gunfire rattled buildings in the capital Khartoum’s densely-populated northern and southern suburbs as tanks rumbled on the streets and fighter jets roared overhead, witnesses said.

Few minutes after the declaration of Kebbi guber supplementary polls won by Dr. Nasir Idris of the APC, the campaign Director of the opposition peoples democratic Party PDP Alhaji Abubakar Shehu convened a brief press conference at the INEC collation center where he described the entire exercise as a sham, not an election.

He further said that the tribunal will expose all the discrepancies in the entire elections which he said even now clear to all reasonable people.
