Newspaper Headlines

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Major Newspapers in Nigeria

Punch Newspaper

1. Opposition distorting Peter Obi’s speeches, group alleges

The Peter Obi Support Network has described as “defeatist” the antics of operatives of opposition presidential campaign organisations and their political parties for always “outrightly distorting and mischievously misquoting the speeches” of the Labour Party presidential aspirant, Peter Obi.

The group said the move was a futile bid to discredit Obi and drag him to the level of their candidates.

These were contained in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, and signed by the Director, Strategic Communication, Peter Obi Support Network, Onwuasoanya Jones.

The group said the antics of the other presidential campaign organisations are evidence that “they are intimidated by the sure-footed knowledgeability of Peter Obi on statistics and necessary information of world economy, governance structure and secrets of successful, secured and democratic nations of the world”.

2. Insecurity: Nigeria heading for collapse, says Gani Adams

Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Adams, has raised the alarm on the worrisome spate of insecurity in the country, saying “Nigeria is already sleepwalking into a collapse”.

5. 2023: Why Atiku, not Tinubu or Peter Obi deserves to be President — Melaye

A Pro- Atiku campaigner, Senator Dino Melaye has said the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, towers heads above shoulders over other aspirants in the 2023 presidential race because of his proven track records in his public and private life.

Melaye said this while addressing a crowd of party supporters who were gathered for the dinner, public declaration and induction ceremony of the Diamond Ladies in Politics, at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja, on Saturday.

According to him, there was no basis for comparing Atiku with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu who is one of the front runners in the race because Atiku has proven over the years that he was better prepared to solve Nigeria’s problems.

Melaye who described  the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, as a fantastic Nigerian dismissed him as a recent social media sensation who was earlier brought unto the national political stage by Atiku.

In Abia, proponents of the ban argued that commercial motorcycles had become ready tools for robbery, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country.
