At least eight bandits were reportedly killed on Sunday by security operatives in Plateau State.
It was learnt that the bandits were neutralised during a joint clearance operation by the security agents in Sabongari community, Wase Local Government Area of the state.
A resident of Wase, Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the killings said that the operation was led by men of Operation Safe Haven, a Multi-security task force deployed to restore law and order in the state, and vigilantes to flush out the bandits in Wase.
Usman said, “The operation began on Saturday and continued on Sunday.
“During the encounter, two villages of Zurak and Yaddi Lawan which served as the base for the bandits were burnt down and retaken by the security agents.
The leadership of traditional institutions in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday raised concern over the “non-challant” attitude of various administrations to agitations by their indigenes since 1990.
They expressed surprise why it has been difficult for the Federal Government to appoint an indigene as Minister of the FCT or upgrade Abuja to a status of a state to enable the people enjoy the rights and privileges associated with the office.
The traditional rulers raised the concerns at a national dialogue on Rights of FCT Original Inhabitants, organised by Resource Centre for Human Rights and Education with the theme, “Building resilience, fostering recovery: FCT Original Inhabitants and the Struggle for Justice”, as part of activities to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples which comes up on August 9.
The Ona of Abaji and Chairman of the FCT Council of Traditional Rulers, Adamu Yunusa, lamented the non-recognition of the indigenes at the helm of affairs at the Federal Executive Council with a call on government “to be fair” to all.
The monarch, represented by Mansur Sule, said the FCT indigenes should be treated like any other Nigerian is treated.
“The donation of our ancestral land to government is remarkable for the unity of the people and the peaceful co-existence of the citizens but we are not seeing commensurate appreciation from the country.
“The people should do us justice to see we are given our rights.We just want to be treated like any other Nigerian is treated.“It is high time our right is given to us”, he said.
Following the alleged murder of two persons on Friday in Ede, Osun State, the family of the deceased have called for the government’s intervention to beam a searchlight into the incident in order to ensure justice.
The bereaved family on Sunday urged concerned authorities to come to their aid in fishing out those who allegedly shot their loved ones to death.
Two persons believed to have worked for the All Progressives Congress in the last governorship election in the state were gruesomely murdered over an argument.
While one of the deceased was a supporter of the APC, other members of the bereaved family are Peoples Democratic Party members in Ede-North.
According to them, the incident started on Friday evening after a fracas ensued between members of the party at a Ward meeting held in the town. The deceased were identified as one Mr. Olalekan Abideen and Mrs Kafayat Olalekan.
Narrating their ordeals, the younger sister of deceased, Mrs. Rukayat Olalekan Olasoji, said the victims were killed over an argument that had been resolved and laid to rest.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said his administration has taken proactive steps in building on the regular security architecture to secure the state.
Sanwo-Olu, made the remark, yesterday, while featuring as a guest on a television programme where he identified security as the bedrock of any government.
He reiterated that his administration is not waiting on anybody before it secures its people.

The letter reads: “This is to notify you that I have resigned my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect commencing from Wednesday the 13th day of July, 2022,” he wrote.
“Attached herewith is my Party Membership Registration slip with slip No.KT/DRA/10/00002, while I thank you and the Party for the opportunity given to me to serve the interest of the people of Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua federal constituency while working with the party, accept my best wishes please.”
Scores of terrorists, including one of the notorious Commanders, Alhaji Abdulkareem Lawal, aka Abdulkareem Boss, have been killed in airstrikes coordinated by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji, at the weekend.
The successful strikes were targeted at key terrorists’ enclaves and hideouts at Rugu Forest in Katsina State.

Governor Wike, in a state broadcast on Sunday, emphasised that the state government is not taking intelligence reports at its disposal lightly, and will therefore not allow any politician, no matter his previous or present position, the chance or opportunity to upset the prevailing peace and security in Rivers State.
As rainy season intensifies, residents of Potiskum town in Yobe State have continued to express concerns over the deplorable conditions of some graveyards in the ancient town.
Abdullahi Mamman, one of the concerned citizens, who frowned at the situation, said that, “the condition of graveyards in Potiskum is becoming source of concern to the citizens, whenever it rains death bodies are exposed due to flooding”.
As flood continues to ravage communities, graveyards in the town were not spared thereby washing away graves, a development that triggered communal effort where donated trucks of sand as well as other materials to rebury exposed dead bodies.
