1. Nigerians should prioritise school certificates less  – Minister

The Minister for Communication and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami, has called on the stakeholders to place less emphasis on certificates obtained from school but more emphasis must be placed on the skills which would make Nigerian graduates employable.

He expressed worry over the situation of the country whereby graduates finished university and were not unemployable, saying there was a difference between unemployment and unemployability.

Pantami stated this at the 12th convocation lecture he delivered at the Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, on Friday. The lecture was titled,  “Digital innovation and entrepreneurship: a panacea for unemployment.”

According to him, there was a mismatch between the quality of Nigerian graduates and the skills for job opportunities available globally, stressing that, in Nigeria and Africa at large. there was a need to address the issue of mismatch between what graduates have to offer and what employers want

2. Supporting Tinubu not for ministerial position – Nnamani

Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, has said his support for the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is not an attempt to get a ministerial position or other benefits.

According to him, his decision to be with the APC standard bearer was for the overall benefit of the Igbo ethnic group and the South-East region in particular.

He said the Igbo would use their support for Tinubu in 2023 to build bridges across the country, adding that the presidential candidate was guaranteed their support because of his capacity to fix the country.

Nnamani said this at the inauguration of the state and local government area coordinators of the Tinubu/Shettima Independent Campaign Council in Enugu at the weekend.

3. CSO encourages men to share gender violence experience

A civil society organisation, YouthHub Africa, has urged men to speak about their experiences of sexual and gender-based violence, in spite of the low level of data about abuses against men.

The Executive Director of YHA, Rotimi Olawale, said this in Abuja on early December, while speaking to pressmen, at a Men’s Summit
Conference on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, organised in collaboration with the Spotlight Initiative of the United Nations Women and the European Union.

Olawale, who revealed that the summit was part of the 16 days of activism on violence against women and girls, said it was important for men to talk about their experiences, adding that the patriarchal nature of the Nigerian society made it difficult for men to speak out.

4. Tambuwal visits Ortom, says PDP crisis not war of attrition

The Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has said the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not a war of attrition but political disagreement that would be resolved soon.

The Governor who is the Director General of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, spoke Sunday when he visited his Benue State counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi.

He explained that his visit was prompted by the crisis in the party. He noted the leading role Governor Ortom plays in the PDP saying “we have had time to converse and engage on what is happening in our party. Governor Ortom is a leader in this party when you look at his political tragectory, history and where he is today.

“He holds a very important position in the affairs of our party. I have said this before and about three months ago, that internal party wranglings are normal and what we have been having is not a war of attrition but political disagreement.

5. Buni charges cattle breeders to operate bank accounts

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Sunday in Damaturu charged Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to sensitise its members on the need to open bank accounts.

Buni gave the charge when the newly-elected National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma, paid him a courtesy visit.

He called on the president to ensure he sensitised members of the association about the cashless policy introduced by the CBN.

The governor noted that Ngelzarma’s election was based on merit and advised him to work assiduously towards peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders.

6. ‘I gave my all’, Ronaldo breaks silence after World Cup exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken for the first time since Portugal crashed out of the World Cup after losing 1-0 to Morocco on Saturday.

Morocco edged out the former European champions 1-0 to make history as the first African country to reach a World Cup semi-final.

Ronaldo could be seen in years after the match depicting how heartbroken the result left the Portugal skipper.

In a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, Ronaldo admitted that the World Cup was his biggest dream having achieved many successes with clubs and his national team.

7. Bayelsa ICC begins door-to-door campaign for Tinubu-Shettima

The Bayelsa chapter of the Tinubu-Shettima Independent Campaign Council (ICC) has launched a door-to-door, hamlet-to-hamlet and neighborhood-to-neighborhood (DDHHNN) campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

The Chairman of the council, Prince Preye Aganaba, said the unique approach was initiated to spread the gospel of Tinubu’s competence, capacity, fitness and experience in all the nooks and crannies of Bayelsa.

Speaking at the weekend when he led members of the state ICC to visit a former Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Werinipre Seibarugu in Yenagoa, Aganaba said the campaign approach would also help to correct misinformation, half truth and outright lies against Tinubu.

He said their findings discovered that persons against Tinubu had not come to know him personally and only depended on lies told them by opposition political leaders.

8. Hit-and-run driver kills son of former Lagos Military Gov

The son of a former Lagos Military Governor Group Captain Gbolahan Mudashiru, was on Sunday morning killed by a yet-to-identified motorists along the Bourdillon Road, in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Dr Olaolu Mudashiru, an accomplished surgeon, finance expert and bicyclist “was habitually riding his bike this morning, as in morning exercise. He was hit by a hit and run car who fled the accident scene,” Mr. Muyiwa Omolulu, from Kigali, in Rwanda. Both attended the Nigeria Military School, Zaria, and have remained close ever since.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing this morning of a senior Ex-Boy, Dr Olaolu Mudasiru (Dr.Bob) of a cycling accident in Lagos by 5am this morning. He was senior brother to an esteemed colleague of ours on this forum, Olusola Mudasiru. Rest in Perfect Peace my brother. May God grant you eternal rest,” Omolulu posted.

9. NCPC gives ultimatum to Bishop Mamza, demands receipts, invoices of monies allegedly paid by Adamawa Govt

The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC, says it has given the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Adamawa State branch, Bishop Stephen Mamza, five days to make available receipts and invoices for all the monies purportedly paid to the commission by the government of Adamawa State.

This is contained in a statement signed by Celestine Toruka, Deputy Director and Head of Media and Public Relations of the NCPC.

Recall that Bishop Mamza had recently alleged that the NCPC was in a mess and unable to plan Christian pilgrimage.

Mamza further called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) to investigate the activities of the Executive Secretary of the NCPC, Rev Yakubu Pam.

10. NCPC begins 2022 pilgrimage exercise to Israel, Jordan

The Executive Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam has hinted that the commission is currently working towards the commencement of the 2022 December main pilgrimage exercise to Israel and Jordan. He avowed that the date for the commencement would soon be fixed.

The NCPC boss who gave the charge during a strategic meeting with all the management and staff of the commission at the chapel, NCPC Corporate headquarters, Abuja, also charged them to be committed to their duty.

Dr Yakubu during a sermon at the meeting, admonished the staff to always ensure they have a goal to pursue in life which would enable them to add value to the system.

He maintained that there is usually a storm in the life of everyone and in the life of an organization. He averred that the important thing in such a situation is the ability to overcome which would be possible through the grace of God.
