1. Jigawa: Fire razes hut, consumes mother, two daughters
A 30-year-old mother, Khadija Ibrahim, and her two daughters have died in a fire incident at Tsangarwa village, Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to a statement issued by the spokesman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, in the state, Adamu Shehu, the incident happened on Friday at about 11pm when fire razed a hut while the victims were asleep.
The statement said, “The fire incident engulfed a hut, where the 30-year-old mother was sleeping alongside with her two daughters, four-year-old Aisha and two-year-old Rabi.
2. Qatar 2022: Mbappe wins Golden Boot Award
France star striker Kylian Mbappé is the winner of the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot award after scoring three goals in Sunday’s final against Argentina, bringing his total to eight in the tournament.
Messi finished with seven goals and would have won the tiebreaker on assists had he and Mbappé tied. Argentina won the epic final on penalty kicks (4-2) after the game finished tied at 3-3 in regulation.
Mbappe and Messi shared the lead on five goals going into the tournament finale between Argentina and France.

Former Presidential spokesman and Director, Communications and Media Strategy of the Delta All Progressives Congress, APC, Campaign Council, Olorogun Ima Niboro, has predicted that an overwhelming number of Deltans will vote for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as governor in the 2023 general elections.
Niboro made the assertion Sunday in Lagos while speaking to newsmen on the progress of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s governorship campaign.
He said the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led People’s Democratic Party, PDP, administration in the state has effectively alienated and sidelined the majority of the people, treating them as outcasts in their own state. He said that the government’s policies and open avarice have created severe hardship and swept the people into deprivation and despair.
He described the level of poverty among the generality of the people in Delta state as staggering and unacceptable, pointing out that Deltans have never had it so bad.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy of Nigeria, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, had meetings at Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (Space X) headquarters in Hawthorne, California, as well as a meeting at the World Bank Headquarters and another meeting with Google Corporation in a bid to strengthen partnerships for the development of Nigeria’s digital economy.
The meetings with the World Bank and Google were held on the sidelines of the US-Africa Leaders’ Forum (USALF), which took place in Washington DC, United States of America, while the visit to Space X was a follow-up to the events at the USALF.

7. Kidnappers kill Ondo businessman after picking ransom
Abusinessman in Ugbe, Akoko Northeast local government area of Ondo State, Mr. Augustine Okoye, has been killed by his abductors after payment of ransom.
It was learnt that Okoye was kidnapped with his wife along the Isua-Ise Akoko highway.
Sources said the kidnappers killed the man after collecting money from the family and freed the wife.
8. Bishop Fearon blasts Oyedepo over ‘mad’ comment on APC voters
Chairman of Kaduna State Peace Commission (KAPECOM) Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon has said that religious leaders must see themselves as instruments of unity despite their personal political preferences.
Bishop Idowu-Fearon was reacting to a statement credited to the General Overseer of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, ‘the number of people who vote for APC in 2023 will determine the number of mad people in Nigeria’.
Fearon argued it was wrong for any religious leader to tell his congregation to vote for any particular party.
He spoke on the sideline of a high level meeting of political parties, candidates and stakeholders for peaceful campaigns and elections in Kaduna State where 18 registered political parties, 14 governorship candidates and candidates for National Assembly and House of Assembly signed peace accord.

9. PDP engaging in diversionary tactics due to its imminent defeat – APC spokesperson Bayo Onanuga
The Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was engaging in diversionary tactics having come to terms that its defeat was imminent in the February poll.
Phrank Shaibu, a special media assistant to the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar, had in a statement challenged the presidential candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to make his real name and early education known.
However, the Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga described the latest allegation as another attempt at shadowboxing.
He said if only the PDP would go back to its records, it would have realised that the same reckless campaign of calumny was its stock in trade in the governorship campaigns in Lagos State in 2003.
10. National Assembly budget too low – Reps
The House of Representatives has lamented over the inadequacy of the National Assembly budget.
Benjamin Kalu, the spokesman of the House of Representatives, said the National Assembly cannot function effectively with a low budget.
Kalu disclosed this during an end-of-the-year award ceremony by the House of Representatives Press Corps in Abuja over the weekend where he bagged the award of the Most Outstanding Spokesman of the House.
Kalu lauded the Press Corps for its effort to strengthen democracy.
