1. I have no extra house in Daura – Buhari
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Sunday, said he has only one house in Daura to retire to after his tenure elapses in May 2023.
“I haven’t built an extra house in Daura. Those who know me know that I have one house and that is where I will retire to,” Buhari said when he hosted a large delegation of the Abuja community led by the FCT minister, Mohammed Bello, at the State House, Abuja.
The President said after leaving office, he will retire to his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, far away from the epicentre of the 2023 political activities.
In his address earlier, the FCT minister thanked the President for opening his doors to his neighbours for one last time.
2. Kogi declares Thursday holiday as Buhari inaugurates projects
The Kogi State Government has declared Thursday, December 29, 2022 a public holiday as the state prepares to receive the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), for the inauguration of legacy projects of the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration.
A statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, on Sunday, urged the people of Kogi State to come out en masse to receive the President and display the hospitality they were known.
The state government also urged all labour unions and security agencies in Kogi State to ensure full compliance.
The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari shall be visiting Kogi State on December 29, 2022 to inaugurate legacy projects across the state.
3. Christmas: Pope urges end to ‘senseless’ Ukraine war
Pope Francis on Sunday appealed for an end to the “senseless” war in Ukraine, in his traditional Christmas message from St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.
The 86-year-old also warned the 10-month-old conflict was aggravating food shortages around the world, urging an end to the use of “food as a weapon”.
The head of the Catholic Church addressed thousands of faithful gathered in St Peter’s Square, some of them holding Ukrainian flags, before delivering the “Urbi et Orbi” blessing (“to the city and the world”).
He has repeatedly called for peace ever since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, condemning the war but seeking to maintain a delicate dialogue with Moscow.

4. Cashless economy: Govts tasked on provision of adequate electricity, telecomms infrastructures
An economist, Dr Chiwuike Uba, has urged Federal and state governments to invest in the provision of stable electricity and telecommunication infrastructure for Nigerians to maximize the gains of a cashless economy.
“Without the provision of these infrastructures, Nigerians and indeed the country will find it hard to reap enormous benefits from the cashless economy as observed in developed countries,” Uba, Board Chairman of Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Foundation (ACUF), said.
He spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Sunday on the sidelines of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) redesign of the naira, limiting cash withdrawal and encouraging electronic/cashless payment systems.
Uba, who is the Lead Researcher of Afri-Heriatge, an economic-political research and analytic institution, said that the infrastructures necessary to effectively implement the policy, “are not currently in place in an adequate manner”.
5. After May 29, I’ll be far away from Abuja to avoid problems — Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Christmas Day said he will retire to his Daura hometown, Katsina State to rest from the rigours of office and to avoid problems, when he exits from office on May 29, 2023.
President Buhari stated this while hosting residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, who paid him Christmas homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking at the homage, the President said, “Thank you very much for taking your time to come and visit me and I congratulate you on this great day (Christmas). I have promised a lot of my colleagues that I will try and be as far away as possible from Abuja when I leave the office so that nobody can create any problems for me anymore.
6. 2023 presents opportunity to end our collective misery, says PDP Chair, Ayu
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has appealed to Nigerians to keep hope alive, saying that the darkest hour often precedes daybreak.
Ayu said this in his Christmas Message to Nigerians which was made public in Abuja, on Sunday.
The PDP Chairman expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their patience and long-suffering under the worst seven to eight years of our lives as a nation.
He equally urged Nigerians to cheer up because according to him, this is our last Christmas celebration under the APC.

7. Niger Delta states secure $200m World Bank loans to create jobs
Four Niger Delta states have accessed $200 million loans and another $78.4 million grant from the European Union to create jobs.
Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, said his ministry facilitated the loans.
The funds were released to Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and Rivers states under the State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) Project.
Agba said: “The Project involved a concessionary interest-free loan of US$200 million from the World Bank with a grant element of about US$78.4 million from the European Union.
8. ‘Second Niger Bridge not closed’
The Second Niger Bridge is not closed to traffic, an engineer involved in the project, Martins Oluwaseyi, said on Sunday.
He told our correspondent to disregard viral claims that the bridge was shut.
Oluwaseyi reiterated that the bridge will remain partially open during the Yultide.
He said: “The bridge was opened on the to ease the pains of the travelers.
