1. Ogun govt prosecutes owner of fake clinic

The Ogun State government says it has commenced the prosecution of the owner of an illegal medical facility in the state for various infractions.

The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Tomi Coker, disclosed this, saying, the government had a few weeks ago sealed some health facilities in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state for falling short of set standards.

Coker in a statement said the government would leave no stone unturned in combating quackery in the state.

2. Police confirm release of kidnapped Plateau DPO

Barely four days after gunmen kidnapped the Divisional Police Officer in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, the state command on Sunday confirmed his release.

The PUNCH had reported that the kidnapped police officer identified as Nwapi Augustus was shot in his hotel room in Pankshin by gunmen before they took him away to an unknown destination.

Confirming his release in a statement on Sunday, the spokesman for the state command, Alfred Alabo, said, “Following the kidnap of SP Nwapi Augustus on January 11, 2023, at about 7:30pm by unidentified gunmen to an unknown destination in Pankshin LGA, the Plateau State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies and hunters in the area, embarked on a rescue mission and eventually unshackled and freed the officer from his captors.

3. Arsenal win derby, go eight points clear at top

Arsenal moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the north London derby as Chelsea eased the pressure on manager Graham Potter by beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday.

Newcastle struck late to beat Fulham 1-0 to reclaim third place and keep alive their title aspirations.

But Arsenal will take some stopping if they are to be denied a first league title since Arsene Wenger’s “Invincibles” in 2003/04 after a first league win away to Tottenham in nine years.

4. Tinubu boosts media team, appoints Jega, Abdulaziz as aides

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu has strengthened his media office with the appointment of two new aides.

Mr. Tunde Rahman, Head, of Tinubu Media Office, announced this in a statement released on Sunday.

Those appointed are Mahmud Jega as Special Adviser, Public Affairs and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity

5. Woman, partner to be arraigned in court for physically abusing toddlers

Operatives attached to the Lagos state police command are currently investigating a woman Busola Oyediran and her partner Akebiara Emmanuel for physically abusing her two biological children.

Busola Oyediran and her partner Akebiara Emmanuel who lives with her two children from her failed marriage in the Egbeda area of Lagos were arrested on Friday following reports from neighbours who complained about the constant physical abuse of their children aged 5 and 2 years respectively.

Vanguard learned that Busola Oyediran had two children with her former husband.

According to neighbours, Busola beats the children at every slight provocation inflicting bodily injuries on the two minors

6. Terrorists kidnap 8 women heading to Church in Katsina, beat cleric

Suspected terrorists operating in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday morning kidnapped no fewer than five women heading to Church for Sunday Worship Service. A Pastor was also reported to have been injured during the attack.

Bello Bello, the Chairman of Community Policing Relation in Kankara LGA who confirmed the report to Vanguard said those kidnapped were all females.

Bello however debunked an earlier report credited to Rev. Ishaya Jurau, the Senior Special Assistant on Christian Affairs to Governor Aminu Bello Masari that the hoodlums kidnapped the worshippers right inside the New Life Church located at Gidan Haruna.

7. FG targets five million new jobs from smart agriculture

The Federal Government has announced plans to create five million new jobs from smart agriculture through the National Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture (NAVSA).

The plan proposed a mass agriculture programme to bring 20,000 to 100,000 hectares of new farmland under cultivation in every State of the Federation, the government said at the weekend.

According to the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Malam Kashifu Inuwa, the programme would add impetus to the economic recovery and diversification efforts of the government and increase revenue generation.

Inuwa explained that from the kick off of the programme, it was evident that more grounds would be covered to boost Nigeria agriculture value chain from “farm to table” and ensure that five million direct and indirect jobs are created in the sector.

8. Buhari off to Mauritania for two-day engagements

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja for Nouakchott, the capital of Islamic Republic of Mauritania on Monday for a official engagements that will last till Wednesday.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, while in Nouakchott, Buhari will receive the African Award for strengthening peace, to be presented to him by the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday, January 18, 2023, receive ‘African Award for Strengthening Peace’ in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, for his leadership role in promoting peace on the continent, through regular inventions, counsels and conciliatory position.

“The award will be presented to President Buhari by the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, which is an assembly of leaders established in 2014 to pursue new ways to embrace inclusive citizenship, promote lasting peace, and work towards a safer and more sustainable world for everyone
