1. Tribunal: Osun APC, PDP clash over protests

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has alleged that protests by some people in the state over the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal that sacked the governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, were being sponsored.

The party further said the protests allegedly being sponsored by Adeleke and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, could worsen their case, instead of adding positive value to it at the Appeal Court.

But reacting, the Osun PDP acting chairman, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, said the protest was an indication that the people rejected the verdict of the panel.

2. Jandor to attend gov debate despite Sanwo-Olu’s withdrawal

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate for Lagos State, Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor, has agreed to attend the governorship debate organised for Lagos candidates.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress platform had withdrawn from the debate, citing security reasons.

But in a world conference held on Saturday, Jandor faulted Sanwo-Olu’s reason for withdrawing from the debate.

Vanguard quoted Jandor as saying, “This speaks volume of Governor Sanwo-Olu as Chief Security Officer of the state as he cannot guarantee his own safety.

3. UK lists priority subjects for immigrating teachers

The Department for Education, United Kingdom has highlighted the priority subjects for Nigerian and other nationals seeking to come to the country through the Teaching Regulation Agency from February 2023.

The PUNCH in June 2022 reported that DfE announced that they would be changing the way they award qualified teacher status to teachers from overseas.

According to the report, some subjects which are much needed in the UK will be prioritised.

DfE said that under retained EU and domestic legislation, teachers from some countries can easily apply for QTS, but others cannot, even if they have equivalent skills and experience.

4. We’ll not accept ‘Agbero’ system in Lagos – LP Gov candidate Rhodes-Vivour

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP in Lagos state, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has vowed that he will not tolerate touts and thuggery under the guise ‘Agbero’ system in the state.

Rhodes-Vivour made this promise while speaking on his plans at ThePlatform debate organised for governorship candidates in the state on Sunday

According to him, the ‘Agbero’ system has created lots of bottlenecks  and safety hazards in Lagos state overtime.

He said, “On road safety in Lagos state, we will not accept the ‘Agbero’ system, which has created a lot of safety hazards in the state.

5. Gen polls: Ikorodu drums support for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, others

Mammoth residents of Ikorodu Division have expressed support for all the All Progressives Congress, APC candidates in the 2023 general polls

This came as AP, of Ikorodu Division, at the weekend, flagged off its 2023 campaign for candidates vying for various elective positions at all levels of government in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State.

The flag-off ceremony which was held at the Alajede Palace Ijede had in attendance, the Lagos East Senatorial candidate of the party, Senator Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru FCA; House of Representatives Member, Babajimi Benson, candidate House of Reps, Aro Abiodun AMA, candidate, Ikorodu Constituency II and Gbolahan Ogunleye, candidate, Ikorodu Constituency 1.

6. Old Naira Deadline: Our wives selling roasted corn, carrots most affected — Tinubu

THE presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Sunday, said “our wives” selling garden eggs, carrots, roasted corn were most affected by the need to change to the new Naira notes.

Tinubu said this when he took his campaign to Benin City, Edo State, where he held a town hall meeting with political leaders, social groups and professionals from various sectors

He presented his programmes and called for support for his party in all the elections beginning from February 25.

At the palace of the Oba of Benin where His Majesty, Oba Ewuare II in the company of traditional rulers from Edo Central and Edo North senatorial districts, Tinubu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for agreeing to the extension of the deadline for the changing into the redesigned naira notes.

7. Old notes: Nigerians give kudos, knocks to CBN deadline extension

Mixed reactions have trailed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) extension of the deadline for collection of old naira notes by 10 days.

Some Nigerians who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)on Sunday in Lagos, commended the CBN for the extension, while others said that it could also lead to a situation where government policies might not be taken seriously in the future.

According to them, the extension is a good decision because it affords some Nigerians, who are yet to deposit their old naira notes, the opportunity to do so.

8. Gunmen behead one, kill another in Imo shootout

Gunmen killed two persons on Saturday at Afor Enyiogugu in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

The gunmen, who arrived the market around 8.45pm, shot sporadically, killing one person believed to be a northerner and beheaded the second person.

A source told The Nation security operatives from Aboh Mbaise Division Police Station engaged the hoodlums in gun battle with assistance of the youths in the area.

The source said: “Contrary to what was dished out as heavy shooting that boomed at about 8.45pm, yesterday, there were only two gunshots from suspected unknown gun men.One of the victims,a northerner died on the road to Owerri while being taken to the hospital

9. APC seeks IGP action against Katsina PDP governorship candidate for allegedly assaulting DPO

The All Progressives Congress in Katsina State has called on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba to ensure that action is taken against the state governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, Yakubu Lado for allegedly threatening the life of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State.

The call is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Alhaji Sani Ahmed Daura, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

In the statement, Sani alleged that the PDP Governorship candidate, Lado Danmarke was recorded in a phone conversation reigning insults and threat on the Kankara DPO over an attack by his supporters on the motorcade of the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda.

10. BNSG not involved in Nasarawa State killings – Gov Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has described as mischievous, allegations linking his government to recent killings from an air raid on a settlement in Nasarawa State.

The Governor stated that neither him nor his government had a hand in the unfortunate incident.

He maintained that he did not order anyone to carry out such act, insisting that he has no such powers to order such an air raid operation which resulted in the killings.
