Top 10 Newspaper Headlines Monday, June 13th 2022

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Major Newspapers in Nigeria

Punch Newspaper

1. You’re no longer my president, Umahi tells Ohanaeze’s President-General

The Ebonyi State Governor, and Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum, David Umahi, on Sunday, chided the President-General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor, for his alleged role in the failure of the aspirants from the region in the just concluded presidential primaries.

In what looked like a vote of no confidence in Obiozor, Umahi declared he would no longer recognise him as the PG of the pan-Igbo body.

Umahi, a former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, alleged that Obiozor was partisan, “instead of making himself a rallying point during the struggle for the presidency of Igbo extraction”.

According to the visibly angry Umahi, who stated this during a warn reception in his honour by his supporters, after the APC presidential ticket contest in Abuja, Obiozor failed to stand for the South-East region when it mattered most, saying, “It is a very big shame, I have no confidence in him and he is no longer my President.”

2. Your senatorial ticket illegal, non-existent, Akpabio slams ex- DIG

The immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Sunday replied Udom Ekpoudom (retd.), asking him to stop polluting the media space with falsehood about a non-existent ticket.

The former Deputy Inspector General had, in a statement issued earlier on Sunday by his aides, vowed not to relinquish his senatorial ticket to Akpabio.

Akpabio, however, replied to Ekpoudum in a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Jackson Udom titled ‘Re: Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District APC Ticket: Matters Arising’.

Akpabio said Ekpoudum is being placed on the off-side track of politics in the district, and probably was not aware of the notification of cancellation and order of a fresh election, because he belonged to the Udoedehe’s faction which is not recognised by the INEC and the national leadership of the party.

3. Tinubu campaign organisation disowns viral ‘manifesto’ on social media

The campaign organisation of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, distanced itself from a viral document circulated on social media as Tinubu’s manifesto.

The organisation disclosed that what was being peddled online was a mere draft and suggestions on the programmes Tinubu is expected to implement when elected in February 2023.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Tinubu Campaign Organisation’s Director of Media and Communication, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga said that the manifesto being shared mostly via WhatsApp and Facebook is not the official campaign manifesto of the APC presidential candidate.

5. PVC: Tinubu not responsible for attack on Ndigbo in Lagos, Ebonyi Reps member insists

The Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. (Comrade) Chinedu Ogah, (OON), Sunday, insisted that the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu was not responsible for the alleged attack on Igbo residents, who went to collect their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, in Lagos State.

An online platform had reported that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP alleged that the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress should be held responsible for the attack on Ndigbo who had gone out in their mass to get their PVC.

Disclosing this in a statement, the APC Stalwart and lawmaker called on the general public to disregard the online publication on the APC presidential candidate, even as he described the news as an act falsehood and sabotage.

According to him, Tinubu has been good to Igbo in this APC-led administration. He has made series of nominations into President Buhari’s Cabinet and Federal parastatals as it concerns the welfare and appointment of Ndigbo.
