1. Owo attack indication of security collapse – Ondo PDP senatorial candidate
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo North Senatorial District in the 2023 election, Adetokunbo Modupe, has stated that the attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa, Owo, Ondo State, was an indication of the near collapse of Nigeria’s security infrastructure.
He joins a long list of Nigerians who have condemned the Sunday attack on Christian worshippers noting that it was a cause for concern for critical stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and properties of the people.
Modupe’s comments were contained in a statement signed by his Head of Media and Public Communications, Wale Obanigba, where he added that the government had failed in its responsibility to protect its citizens.
The statement read in part, “The primary responsibility of government is the security and welfare of the people, therefore, it is a general failure of government when such cannot be guaranteed.
2. Northern APC govs have ruined Atiku’s chances, says VON DG, Okechukwu
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Osita Okechukwu, has saluted the 10 Northern governors who supported the zoning of the APC presidential ticket to the South.
While describing their act as a patriotic display, the Director General of Voice of Nigeria disclosed that it was more honorable than the ‘Cash and Carry’ victory of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
Okechukwu, who issued the statement in a release on Sunday, congratulated the party’s northern governors and political leaders for strengthening Nigeria’s unity by endorsing power shift to the South.
He said, “Nigerians have now seen that the Dollar Rain, cash and carry primary that produced His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate was a pyrrhic victory that has nothing in store for the new Nigerian of our dreams.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is on Sunday night, hosting some members of the All Progressives Congress national caucus for a dinner at the State House Banquet Hall.

AHEAD of the All Progressives Congress, APC, national convention, President Muhammadu Buharilast night hosted stakeholders of the ruling party to a dinner.
The event, which took place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was said to be a follow up of the meeting he had with the national leadership and presidential aspirants of the party on Saturday night.
This is as the President has kept his aides and loyalists in suspense over who is his preferred candidate to fly the flag of the APC in the 2023 presidential elections.

7. No priest kidnapped in Owo church terror attack – Catholic Diocese
The Catholic Diocese of Ondo has said that no priest or Bishop was kidnapped after the attack on worshippers at the St Francis Church, Owo, Owo local government area.
It said it was Pentecost Sunday when every Catholic was expected to be in Church to commemorate the Solemnity.
A statement by its Director, Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Augustine Ikwu, said many were feared dead and others injured while the church was violated during the attack.
Ikwu stated that identity of the perpetrators remained unknown while the situation left the community devastated

9. Owo church attack: How four gunmen attacked worshippers, killed women, children – Eyewitnesses
Some eyewitnesses have narrated how the attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, headquarters of the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, happened on Sunday.
One of them, identified as Taiwo, said he was approaching the church when he noticed the people fleeing and had to come to a halt.
He added that he was only able to see the attackers, four men, getting into a green Volkswagen car.
He claimed that some Amotekun Corps members arriving in their car gave the hoodlums a furious chase, adding, “I learned the gunmen abandoned their vehicle and fled.”

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Most Reverend Jude Arogundade, has described as “madness” the attack on worshippers by gunmen suspected to be bandits.
According to the Bishop, who visited the scene of the incident, the attack is an indication that the country is at war.
Gunmen suspected to be bandits had on Sunday morning invaded Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo in Owo Local Government where scores of worshippers were killed.
