1. Gov election: OAU extends resumption date
The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday, announced a change in the resumption date for the students of the institution.
The management said the students were earlier expected to resume March 15, 2023, but would now return to campus on March 21, 2023.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewwaju, explained that the change was caused by the shift in the date for the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
2. Royal father, Mogajis, others throw weight behind Makinde
The Onpetu of Ijeru in Ogbomosoland, Oyo State, Oba Sunday Oyediran, alongside Ibadan family heads, popularly known as Mogajis and part II chiefs in Ibadanland, have thrown their weight behind the re-election bid of the state Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Others, who also pledged their votes for Makinde ahead of the Saturday, March 18 governorship election, were the market men and women association in the state, traders and artisans, the Nigerian Union of Teachers and youth groups.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Taiwo Adisa, on Sunday, said the groups made their decision known, on Saturday at the Ilaji Hotels and Resort, Akanran, Ibadan, when the governor paid a visit to the chairman of the hotel who is also Otun Apesinola of Ibadanland, Dotun Sanusi.
Sanusi, who gave a short address to welcome the visitors, said that he was supporting Makinde’s re-election after the governor had mobilised support for the election of Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu in penultimate Saturday’s presidential election.
3. Osun PDP accuses police of clampdown, threatens protest
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has decried the mass arrest of its leaders by the police, alleging that the development was in a bid to manipulate next Saturday’s State Assembly elections.
The acting state chairman of the party, Dr Akindele Adekunle, in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Sunday, said PDP members would occupy police offices across the state in peaceful protest, unless the Inspector General of Police, Mr Usman Baba Alkali, to put an end to the ongoing arrest of its leaders.
The party said the IGP Alkali was duty-bound to be impartial in enforcing the law, adding that the police boss should not take directives on who to arrest or detain from the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress.
The statement read in parts, “Our leaders are being arrested in a bid to rig Saturday’s election. We will resist any ploy to manipulate the polls. Osun people voted overwhelmingly for PDP in the last polls. They are ready to freely exercise their voting rights again. Arresting our leaders on Kangaroo charges is an attack on democracy and our fundamental human rights.

4. Nwobodo endorses PDP’s Mbah, urges youths to vote for him
Former Governor of Old Anambra, Sen. Jim Nwobodo, has endorsed the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, as his sole candidate for the March 18 polls.
Nwobodo also appealed to youths in the state to vote massively for Mbah as well as shun violence, reject calls for violence, angry and vengeance voting.
The elder statesman said this on Sunday at a press conference he held at his country home at Amechi, Awkunanw, in Enugu.
5. Election: Atiku cautions Wike
The Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democ ratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has cautioned the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, against speaking under the influence of alcohol.
Atiku gave the words of caution in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, in Abuja, on Sunday.
He gave the advice in response to comments made by the governor while addressing his supporters, in Port Harcourt.
6. Election Violence: 10 suspected armed thugs arrested in Enugu
No less than 10 armed thugs were on Sunday rounded up by the men of Nigeria Army in Isi-Uzo local government council guest house at Ikem, Enugu state.
The thugs were allegedly stationed in the guest house by the local government council chairman, Obiora Obeagu, for the purposes of the March 18 Governorship, Senate and House of Assembly elections in Enugu East Senatorial zone.
The armed men were said to have been imported from Aguleri in Anambra state and quartered in the guest house waiting to unleash mayhem in the area on the day of the election.

7. We pay N2.4b annually to pensioners, says Ondo
Ondo State Government said it spends N2.4bn annually to pay gratuities to retired civil servants in the State.
It said it was up-to-date with the payment of pensions.
Ondo Head of Service (HoS), Pastor Kayode Ogundele, who spoke in an interview, explained that the increase in the pension allowances of retirees in the State was in line with the consequential adjustment arising from the implementation of the national minimum wage in 2019 in the country.
8. How Uba Sani’s campaign coordinator worked against Tinubu, APC candidates in Kaduna
Ahead of the March 18th Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections, facts have emerged on how the Coordinator of Senator Uba Sani in Igabi Local Government area Hon Mamadi worked against the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates of the party on February 25.
In a viral 2 minute 22 second video, Mamadi is captured expressing gratitude to his constituents for voting against Tinubu, APC senatorial candidate, Muhammad Sani Dattijo and House of Representatives candidate, Hon Zayyan Ibrahim.
Mamadi in a meeting with traditional and religious leaders thanked them for defeating Tinubu who is a non northerner and other APC candidates as his conspirators.
He is heard saying: “We thank you for voting Hussaini Jallo of the PDP as directed from the above and for defeating APC candidates in the last elections as agreed.”

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has sent a message to Nigerians on the state of the country.
The former governor of Anambra State polled 6,101,533 votes to take third place in the 25 February presidential election, and has appealed to Nigerians on the need to recalibrate their “Basic Values of Acceptable to Society,” dubbed ‘BVAS.’
“As the reconfiguration of BVAS has become our watchword today, I humbly appeal to Nigerians that it’s time to Reconfigure our own BVAS – “BASIC VALUES ACCEPTABLE TO SOCIETY. ” Have a nice Sunday and may God Almighty bless Nigeria,” he posted on his Twitter handle.
10. Wike, messiah to restore PDP’s lost glory – El-Rufai’s son, Bashir
The son of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, Bashir, has suggested that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is saving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Bashir disclosed that Wike could be the anointed messiah that would revive PDP’s lost glory.
Wike has been at loggerheads with the PDP leadership since he lost the party’s presidential ticket.
Following his defeat at the PDP primaries, Wike had refused to support the party’s flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.
