1. WAEC cancels manual confirmation of results
The West African Examinations Council has cancelled manual confirmation or stamping of certificates of candidates who sat the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination from 1999 till date.
A statement by the council said this was due to the recently innovated WAEC Digital Certificate Platform designed for a seamless and timely mode of availing stakeholders of their candidates’ certificates.
It read, “The West African Examinations Council Nigeria is pleased to inform institutions, organisations, agencies, embassies, high commissions, and the general public that the Council will no longer provide manual confirmation or stamping of certificates of candidates who sat the WASSCE from 1999 till date, as the Council has launched the WAEC Digital Certificate Platform for a seamless and timely mode of availing stakeholders of their candidates’ certificates.”
The statement added that efforts were underway to expand the platform to accommodate candidates from 1980 and updates would be provided to the public as they became available.
2. Senate President mourns late Diya
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has sent his condolences to the family of a former Chief of General Staff, Lt. General Oladipo Diya, over his death on Sunday.
Lawan also condoled with the government and people of Ogun State over the loss of the one-time number two citizen under the military regime of the late General Sani Abacha.
He described Gen Diya as a fine officer who played his role dutifully during some of Nigeria’s most critical times.
3. Temperature to exceed 40°C, NiMet warns
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency on Sunday raised an alarm over the possibility of thermal discomfort across some cities in the country.
In a statement released by the Nimet General Manager, Public Relations, Muntari Ibrahim, the agency said observations from the source region indicate that temperature was expected to rise above 40 degrees in the next 48 hours.
The statement partly reads, “parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, and Adamawa are expected to record temperatures greater than 40°C. While most parts of the Northern cities are expected to record temperatures between 35°C to 40°C, this includes parts of Oyo, Kwara, FCT, Nasarawa, and Benue.”

4. NDLEA Intercepts drugs in container at Tin-Can Port
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that it has intercepted 107 kilograms of cannabis indica popularly known as Colorado hidden in a container bearing four used vehicles imported from Toronto, Canada.
The arrest was made at the Tin Can Island Port of Lagos.
The anti narcotic agency added that two suspects were four days later, handed over to it by the Apapa Customs command of the Nigeria Customs Service.
5. My re-election, divine intervention – Makinde
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has described his re-election as a divine intervention, which now compel him to work harder in other to bring more benefits to the people of the state.
Makinde made this assertions on Sunday at a thanksgiving service held in respect of his re-election at the Living Spring Chapel International, Aduloju, Ibadan.
The governor said he had prayed to God that if he would not leave a good legacy, God should not allow him to win the re-election.
He, however, said that winning the March 18 governorship election was God’s doing.
6. No death recorded in fatal accident along Sagamu expressway
An accident that occurred along Sagamu expressway has resulted in no loss of life.
According to eyewitnesses, a Sienna bus collided with a truck, which was parked on the roadside without a warning sign.
They noted that though varying degrees of injuries were sustained, no death was recorded.

7. Body of SANs slams NBA President over recognition for AGF Malami
The Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, (BOSAN) has faulted a statement by Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, SAN, allegedly accusing it of breaching its rules.
It said Maikyau falsely accused it of failing to accord the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami, SAN, due recognition as Chairman of the Body.
BOSAN said the NBA President made the statement in his address during a valedictory session in honour of a retired judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Buba, held in Abuja on February 9, 2023.
However, BOSAN in a statement by its Secretary, Mr. Olumide Sofowora, SAN, described the criticism as unfair and unfounded.
8. Two die, 10 injured in Ondo crash
Two persons have been confirmed dead and 10 others injured in an accident that occurred at Jubilee Area Ikare Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Witnesses said the accident occurred on Sunday and involved a Toyota Hiace bus marked ZAR 288 XF.
The driver of the bus was said to have lost control and rammed into some motorcyclists parked on the road.

9. Tuberculosis not caused by witchcraft, poison – WHO
As Nigeria joins the world to celebrate this year’s World Tuberculosis Day, the World Health Organization, WHO, has downplayed claims that the bacteria was caused by terrestrial forces.
WHO National Professional Officer, Enang Oyama, explained that Tuberculosis was not caused by witchcraft or poison, as believed by some people.
The WHO officer noted that those who linked the Tuberculosis infection to witchcraft and poison lacked adequate knowledge of the disease.
