1. Ifeanyi Ubah, others win YPP senatorial tickets in Anambra

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has won the Young Progressives Party ticket for the Anambra South Senatorial seat for the 2023 general elections.

Ubah emerged through affirmation from delegates of the seven Local Government Areas including Aguata, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, Orumba South, Ihiala, and Ekwusigo, that make up the district at the primaries witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The election was conducted under the supervision of the committee from the YPP National Secretariat, Abuja and INEC officials as observers. The primary held at Nnewi, on Sunday.

In his acceptance speech, Ubah, who is seeking reelection, said that his emergence would spur him towards more effective representation for the constituency.

2. Gunmen kidnap Methodist Church Prelate, two others in Abia

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Samuel Kanu.

The cleric was kidnapped alongside Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, the Methodist Bishop of Owerri, and the Prelate’s Chaplain on Sunday.

They were kidnapped along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

3. Politicians should listen to Nigerians – Catholic church

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Catholic church on Sunday called on politicians not to disappoint Nigerians but should listen to them and address their needs through good governance.

The Director of Social Communications of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Reverend Mike Umoh, made the plea in Abuja at the 56th World Communications Day Mass, organised by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.

The event was held at the St. Gabriel Chaplaincy, Durumi Abuja, and also witnessed media practitioners working tools blessed by the Bishop of Lafia Diocese and CBCN Chairman on Social Communications, Most Rev. David Ajang.

Umoh, speaking afterward, said that listening as human action was dispensable to democracy and that the reality was obvious because what was going on with the nation’s political parties’ primaries was disheartening

4. I almost became blind after refusing to heed Ifa warning —Olojudo, Oba Ilori-Faboro

Olojudo of Ido Ekiti in Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, has extolled Ifa traditional system, describing it as very important to the peace and prosperity of people and the society in general.
The monarch narrated a personal experience which, he said, strengthened his belief in the efficacy of Ifa.

He explained how he almost became blind consequent upon his refusal to heed the warning of Ifa and be proactive to its directive.

The Olojudo spoke when he received the President of the International Council for Ifa Religion (ICIR) and the National/State Executive members from across the country who, as part of the celebration of the 2022 Edition of the World Ifa-Orisa Festival and Pilgrimage, visited his palace in Ido Ekiti, the hometown of the legendary Poroye, one of the wives of Orunmila and mother of Olomo who broke the jinx of her barrenness on account of a relationship between her and Orunmila while she was frantically searching for the fruit of the womb.

Among the dignitaries present at the occasion were a former Director-General of Abuja International Carnival, Mr. Biodun Kayode Abe, and the representative of Prof Rasaki Ojo Bakare, Ekiti State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Prince Adebanji Adelusi.

5. PDP supporters make case for Wike as Atiku shops for running mate

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections, Ex- Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has intensified consultations towards picking a running mate The VANGUARD has learnt.

Atiku was among callers at the Maitama residence of Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, in the early hours of Sunday where he went to personally express gratitude to the governor for stepping down for him.

Although details of their closed door meeting were not made public, it was gathered that the PDP candidate asked for Tambuwal’s support in the task ahead. He also promised to carry him along when he eventually gets elected.

Other callers at Tambuwal’s residence included: The PDP National Chairman, Iyiochia Ayu, and former Jigawa State Governors: Sule Lamido, his predecessor, Saminu Turaki and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedeoha.

6. Greg Ibe emerges Abia APGA guber candidate

Industrialist and Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Professor Greg Ibe, has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, for the 2023 poll in Abia.

The Professor of Entrepreneur secured 283 out of the 482 total votes cast at the primaries held Sunday at Kolping Society Umuahia.

Etigwe Uwa, SAN came second with 148 votes while Gen. Ijioma N Ijioma (retd), came third with 36 votes.

Chief Chikwe Udensi came last with only 12 votes while three votes were voided.

7. Shock as Lagos lawmakers lose return bids

Incumbent Lagos lawmakers on Sunday lost out at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.

Some of them suffered heavy defeats in their bid to return to the Assembly and House of Representatives.

Hon Rasheed Makinde, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 2 in the Assembly, couldn’t muster a single vote.

He lost the ticket to Emmanuel Olotu, who won with 17 votes while Prince Adebola Ademola came a distance second with five votes. Yemisi Rosiji, Bisi Ogungbemi and Omoyele Dasuza managed one vote each.

Former two-term Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman and ex-aide of Lagos Governor Benjamin Olabinjo defeated the incumbent, James Adisa Owolabi to claim the Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency ticket.

BAO, as Olabinjo is fondly called polled 35 votes to Owolabi’s two; a lawmaker Saka Fafunmi got 14 votes while Adekunle Olayinka secured four votes.

8. Gunmen abduct Methodist Church Prelate, others

Gunmen have kidnapped Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Samuel Kanu.

He was abducted on Sunday along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia.

The Nation gathered he was abducted with two Methodist Bishop of Owerri Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark and the Prelate’s Chaplain.

They were kidnapped in the afternoon on their way from a programme in the council area.

9. 43 aggrieved Bauchi APC assembly aspirants cry foul, seek fresh primary elections

Forty-three aggrieved state House of Assembly aspirants under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State who are not satisfied with the conduct of the primary election have appealed to the party’s National working Committee (NWC) to order fresh elections in 11 constituencies in the state to elect delegates.

Addressing a press conference at the Press Centre of the Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the aggrieved aspirants expressed fear that the local government delegates who would partake in the primary election were already being compromised.

They, therefore, called on the party’s NWC to, as a matter of urgency, order a fresh election of the LGA delegates or allow for a direct primary election.

10. PDP chairman, Ayu calls Tambuwal ‘hero of convention’ as Atiku pays thank you visit

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Sunday, received a thank you visit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and stakeholders.

Tambuwal had during the PDP presidential primary on Saturday stood down for Atiku Abubakar, a development, which eventually gave him victory.

Atiku had during the presidential primary defeated the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike.

Those who paid a thank you visit to Tambuwal, according to a short video seen were; Atiku and the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.
