1. Ogun driver injures mother, two children

A yet-to-be-identified driver of Benz GLX 350 has allegedly injured a mother and her two children in the early hours of Sunday at Olororo Aiyegbami Street, Sagamu Remo, Ogun State.

The incident which left one of the children with a broken arm and others with various degrees of injuries had earlier generated concerns on social media as a Twitter user had claimed that the driver rammed into the motorcycle while being chased by the police officers.

A Twitter user @ThatLegacy_MFR wrote, “Police Officers were chasing a guy driving Benz GLX 350 this morning at Olororo Aiyegbami, Sagamu which later led to the loss of a mother and her two children on a bike.”

2. NAFDAC raises the alarm over importation of banned pesticides

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has raised an alarm over the importation and use of pesticides banned in Europe in Nigeria.

NAFDAC, is, however, seeking stakeholders’ support to eliminate harmful pesticides from the Nigerian markets.

Quoting a report of the study conducted by the Heinrich Boll Foundation, 40 per cent of pesticides used in Nigeria had been banned in the European Union.

The agency also expressed its worries over the toxicity associated with the misuse and abuse of pesticides, saying it affects food safety and food security.

3. Alcaraz retains Madrid Open title

World number two Carlos Alcaraz defended his Madrid Open title with a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Jan-Lennard Struff on Sunday.

The US Open champion earned his 10th career title and can reclaim the world’s top ranking from Novak Djokovic simply by playing a single match at the Rome Masters next week, before the French Open.

Alcaraz continued his Roland Garros build-up by adding the Madrid trophy to victories in Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Indian Wells this year, although he was below his vibrant best against lucky loser Struff, the world number 65.

4. APC chieftain endorses Yari for Senate Presidency

Alhaji Sha’ayau Sarkinfawa, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara, has endorsed Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari for the Senate Presidency of the 10th National Assembly.

Sarkinfawa stated this in an interview with Newsmen in Gusau on Sunday.

“My appeal to the party’s leadership at the national level to zone the position of Senate President of the 10th Assembly to the Northwest.
“The Northwest played greater contribution to the emergence of the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu.

5. Gani Adams to trouble makers: Steer clear of Soba community

The Chairman, Landlord / Residents Association of Soba community, Lagos, Aare Onakakanfo of YorubaLand, Iba Gani Adams has vowed to resist political mischief makers disrupting the peace of the community.

Adams who was represented by his vice, Barrister Akinduro Philips, explained that the peace summit organised for indigenes and non-indigenes of the communities was aimed at fostering peace and understanding among all and sundry.

In a statement on Sunday, Gani advised residents to peacefully conduct their affairs at all times especially during political seasons.

6. Senate South-East Caucus tasks APC on Senate Presidency

The Senate South-East Caucus, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the Senate Presidency of the 10th Assembly to the South-East.

This is contained in a communique signed in Abuja on Sunday at the end of a meeting of the caucus.
Reading the communique, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah(YPP-Anambra) also urged the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu to ensure that the position was zoned to the South-East.

“The incoming administration of Tinubu must correct this anomaly by ensuring that the South-East is given the opportunity to produce the next Senate President.
