1. Ogun teenager jailed seven years for cable theft

A Chief Magistrates Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has sentenced a 19-year-old man, Olamide Olasode, to seven years in prison, without an option of fine, for stealing cables worth N397,000 from an uncompleted building.

The Magistrate, I.O Abudu, sentenced Olasode after the latter had pleaded guilty to the two counts of felony and stealing brought against him.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 31, at about 10:00pm at Ibukunoluwade community, Ile-Ise Awo area of Abeokuta.

The prosecutor said the convict entered the uncompleted building of one Mr. Yemi Fadipe and stole the cables.

2. NYSC DG urges members to respect electoral laws

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, General Muhammad Fadah, has cautioned corps members to be security conscious and to discharge their electoral assignments with integrity.

The NYSC boss gave the advice while addressing the 2022 Batch ‘C’ corps members at the orientation camps in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.

In a statement signed by the Director Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, Eddy Megwa, Fadah warned the corps members against night travel, lone travel, accepting free rides from strangers, and other risky engagements.

He also warned the members against the misuse of social media, and advised them to instead, use it in promoting national unity and integration

3. Bandits demand N10m to release victim’s corpse

Bandits have demanded N10 million as ransom before releasing the corpse of one of their victims, Obadiah Ibrahim, who they kidnapped a few weeks ago in Kaduna State.

Brother to the victim, Kefas Obadiah, said the bandits had collected N3 million but still refused to release the corpse of the victim abducted in October.

“Ibrahim had died on Monday and they informed us on Thursday. We asked for his corpse and they said we should pay them N10 million if we wanted the corpse, (that) they’d not work for us free of charge,” he said.

Obadiah while narrating the family ordeal, added, “My brother’s name is Obadiah Ibrahim. He was kidnapped in early October…in Sabon Gaya on his way back from Abuja to Kaduna.

4. Over 12,000 PDP members defect to APC in Kaduna

Senator Uba Sani has said that the membership of  People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is depleting in Kaduna State daily, with the decamping of its supporters to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the run up to the 2023 election.

Senator Sani who is the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, further said that the opposition party is now  completely non existent in Giwa Local Government Area of the state.

The Senator spoke in Giwa, when he received 12,817 PDP decampees on Sunday, which included a former commissioner, women and youth leaders .

5. I’ll build secure Nigeria that will work for all people – Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has vowed to build a Nigeria that will work for all the people.

Obi made this vow in a short post on his verified Twitter handle on Sunday.

The Labour Party presidential candidate, who expressed concern that Nigeria only works a small minority, stressed that the country must work for all its citizens.

Obi noted that Nigerians must be able to dwell securely and safely irrespective of where they live.

6. Vandals destroy newly installed solar panels in Abuja, Senate laments

THE Senate has lamented the activities of vandals who reportedly removed some of the newly installed solar panels in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Speaking in Abuja, weekend, while conducting an inspection of some of the ongoing projects within the city as part of the committee’s oversight function, Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Smart Adeyemi, All Progressives Congress, APC, Kogi West who bemoaned the activities of vandals in the city, said that efforts must be made to secure and maintain all facilities, including traffic lights, rail tracks, manholes, and power installations among others.

Adeyemi asked Nigerians to protect public facilities put in place for their benefits, and the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA to include security and maintenance components into budget proposals for proposed projects.

7. Troops clear camps, neutralise two terrorists in Kaduna

Troops of the Army at Kankomi, Chikun local government area of Kaduna State have repelled an attack by dozens of bandits and neutralised two of the attackers while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

However, corpses of three villagers suspected to have been killed by the fleeing bandits were later recovered by the troops.

Kaduna Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday.

He said the government was informed of the development in feedback which captured the bravery exhibited by the troops in overpowering the bandits.

According to Aruwan: “The attackers made an attempt to infiltrate the location housing the troops. The vigilant troops in response engaged them in a fierce gun duel which lasted for over an hour. This resulted in the elimination of one of the terrorists, who was wearing military camouflage combat gear as can be seen in the attached photo. Others escaped with bullet wounds as evidenced by bloodstains along their withdrawal route.

8. UFC 281: Israel Adesanya promises to bounce back

Israel Adesanya has promised to bounce back after losing to Alex Pereira at the UFC 281, Madison Square Garden, New York.

The 33-year-old was technically knocked out by Pereira in the fifth round to become the new UFC middleweight champion ending Adesanya’s reign atop the division on Sunday morning.

Adesanya fought a near-perfect fight. He had Pereira out on his feet at the end of Round 1, but the Brazilian returned the favour in Round 5 to snatch it.

9. World Cup: Benzema names four countries to win tournament in Qatar

Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, has listed Brazil, Argentina, France and Spain among the four main contenders to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Benzema also confirmed that he is fit and ready to feature for France at this year’s World Cup.

The 2022 World Cup will begin on November 20, with the hosts Qatar taking on Ecuador and England facing Iran the following day.

10. World Cup: I can’t accept it – Roma chief slams Southgate over Abraham, Smalling’s snub

Roma director, Tiago Pinto, has slammed England boss, Gareth Southgate for snubbing two England players in the Italian side, Tammy Abraham and Chris Smalling.

Abraham was widely tipped to serve as a backup for Harry Kane in Qatar while Smalling stood no chance in making the trip even though England’s defenders struggled for form.

Southgate explained that he dropped Abraham because the striker has not been scoring goals lately.
