1. Zamfara police repel bandits’ attacks, rescue kidnap victims

Zamfara State police have repelled bandits’ attacks in four local government areas of the state and rescued four kidnapped victims.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the bandits had wanted to attack some villages in Maru, Bungudu, Tsafe and Bukkuyum local governments but were repelled following intelligence information.

Shehu said, ”Between Friday 28th to Sunday 30th October, 2022, the Command received intelligence report on bandits’ plan to attack some villages in Bukkuyum, Tsafe, Bungudu, Gusau and Maru LGAs for abduction.

“On getting the information, the Police Tactical Operatives, in conjunction with the vigilante, embarked on rigorous patrol thereby repelling the planned attacks and further sustained confidence building patrol to avert any threat on such communities.”

2. Osun PDP compares Oyetola to Trump, APC kicks

The Transition Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State’s comparison of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to former United States of America President, Donald Trump, on Sunday, led to exchange of words between it and the All Progressives Congress.

A statement by the spokesperson for Ademola Adeleke, the state’s governor-elect, Olawale Rasheed, admitted that the chairman of the PDP Transition Committee, Muyiwa Oladimeji, labelled Oyetola as another Trump at a function and justified the PDP stalwart’s position.

The party accused Oyetola of working to frustrate-disruption of the handover of power on November 27, saying the incumbent governor, like ex-US president, denied ever losing election, alleging that Osun governor also orchestrated a fake election result tabulation to purportedly claim victory.

It further read, “We first want to take liberty to list five reasons why the outgoing Governor is every inch a Trumpist and even likely worse as noted by Dr Muyiwa Oladimeji, an accomplished professional and Chairman of Ademola Adeleke Transition Committee.

3. La Liga: Madrid drop points in Girona draw

A below-par Real Madrid dropped points in the title race with a 1-1 draw at home against Girona on Sunday in La Liga, with Rodrygo having a goal ruled out late on.

Second-placed Barcelona, who snatched a late victory at Valencia on Saturday, are now just a point behind the leaders, who remain unbeaten in the top flight.Reigning champions Madrid took the lead through Vinicius Junior in the 70th minute but Cristhian Stuani levelled with a penalty after Marco Asensio handled in the area.Rodrygo bashed home what he thought was an 89th-minute winner, but the goal was disallowed as he kicked the ball out from under Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga’s hand — he had just about managed to get it under control after stopping a shot from the Brazilian.

4. Naira redesign: ‘CBN has my backing’ — Buhari disowns Finance Minister

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday said that the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to launch new designs and replace high-value Naira notes has his support.

President Buhari in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said he was convinced that the nation will gain a lot by doing so.

Speaking in a Hausa radio interview with the famous journalist Halilu Ahmed Getso, and Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai to be aired Wednesday Morning on Tambari TV on Nilesat, President Buhari said reasons given to him by the CBN convinced him that the economy stood to benefit from a reduction in inflation, currency counterfeiting and the excess cash in circulation.

He said he did not consider the period of three months for the change to the new notes as being short.

5. MASSOB disowns ‘criminals’ masquerading as Biafra activists in Enugu forests

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has disowned some dissidents in the forests of Oduma in Aninri local government area and her neighbouring communities of Nkerefi, Nomeh and Mburubu in Nkanu East LGA, all in Enugu state.

MASSOB alleged that the criminal elements were terrorizing the areas in the name of Biafra agitation, noting that its intelligence shows that the gangsters operate in a camp within the borderline between Nkerefi and Oduma forest called Ngene Awa by Oduma people but called Okobo by Nkerefi people.

Enugu state coordinator of MASSOB, Daniel Onyebuchi, during the weekend, said that the criminals have subjected members of the communities to slavery, where the indigenous people can no longer go to their farms in the present harvesting season because of fear of being kidnapped, raped or killed by the criminal youths.

“It is unfortunate that these youths with brighter futures have turned themselves into criminal activities by making kidnapping a lucrative business. MASSOB blames the state governments in the Southeast zone for their failure to create jobs opportunities and solid empowerment for our youths,” Onyebuchi lamented.

6. Atiku’s foreign engagements ‘ll yield massive investments, says Campaign

The Atiku/ Okowa Presidential Campaign organization has assured Nigerians that the foreign engagements by the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, will yield dividends.

It said, as a result of these engagements, Nigerians should expect unprecedented investment inflow, the revitalization of our productive sectors and the massive creation of jobs for our teeming youths immediately after he assumes office on May 29, 2023.

The Campaign Organization further stated that Atiku Abubakar’s current visit to the United States, where he is scheduled among other things, to engage the US Chamber of Commerce’s US-Africa Business Center, will further build policy thrusts that will fast-track economic recovery and enhance peaceful co-existence in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the organization, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, on Sunday.

7. I won’t work for Atiku if Ayu stays, Makinde vows

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, has vowed he would not work for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku should Sen. Iyorchia Ayu remains national chairman of the party.

Makinde declared this while featuring on Southwest Political Circuit, a popular programme on Fresh 105.9 FM Ibadan at the weekend

In a veiled answer to a question on whether he would work for Atiku should Ayu remain the national chairman, Makinde said he would only work for PDP candidates from Oyo State in 2023 if the status quo remains.

When reminded the presidential election comes together with that of National Assembly, the Governor assured that voters are more politically conscious than before, stressing that they vote for candidates of their choice when necessary.

Makinde, who is a staunch member of the Governor Nyesom Wike’s group of five Governors, explained they would not back down from the demand that a southerner must be allowed to occupy the position of national chairman of the party.

8. Southeast Govs recommend political solution on Kanu

Southeast Governors on Sunday expressed their belief in using political solution to free the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

An Appeal Court had discharged the IPOB leader and dismissed the six-count charge preferred against him by the Federal Government.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, the Federal Government approached the Court and got a stay of execution while appealing the ruling of the Supreme Court.

However Southeast Governors after their meeting in Enugu said they were monitoring the situation.

Chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum and Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi, who read the communique to journalists, said they were “watching with keen interest, the developments with respect to the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu viz-a-viz the Court rulings.

9. Kaduna: Army neutralizes seven terrorists, recovers arms, ammunition

The Nigeria Army on Sunday, said troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army on Operation Forest Sanity conducted clearance operation around Maidaro, Kagi Hill, Kusharki and Anguwan Madaki in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, neutralized seven terrorists, recovered arms and ammunitions in Kaduna

In a statement on Sunday by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, the troops came in contact with the terrorists and in a fierce battle that followed, neutralized four bandits.

According to him, other bandits fled in disarray, just as troops recovered two AK 47-rifles with two rounds of 7.62mm special, one automatic pump action gun with 3 cartridges, 6 dane guns, 3 locally fabricated pistols with one 9mm round and 4 motorcycles.

It said in another operation, the army, troops along Sabon Birnin-Zartake, Ungwan Lima Riyawa and Tungan Madaki general area, intercepted fleeing bandits from Kagi Hill and neutralized another three terrorists.

10. South-East Govs decry Insecurity, to launch joint patrol team

Governors of the South-East zone on Sunday met in Enugu State and resolved to set up a 24-hour patrol team in all the major highways in the zone.

The Governors, who met behind closed doors, decried the State of insecurity in the region, stating that economic activities have come to a halt while kidnapping and wanton killings have become the order of the day.

Those in attendance included Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Ebonyi State Governor/Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Engr. David Umahi, while the Governors of Anambra and Imo States, Prof. Charles Soludo and Senator Hope Uzodinma were represented by their deputies, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezi and Prof. Placid Njoku, respectively.

They called on the Federal Government to come to their aid by providing security in the zone bearing in mind that elections were around the corner.
