The Department of State Services has warned Nigerians over making comments on its arrest of the terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu.
The DSS, in a statement by its Spokesman, Peter Afunaya, Sunday, asked the public to leave the agency alone and allow it to concentrate on the investigations which it said the outcomes had been “mindboggling.”
This was coming hours after the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheik Gumi, to whom Mamu is an aide, had faulted the arrest of the negotiator.
Gumi, at a religious gathering on Friday, said, “Nigeria’s constitution did not say you can arrest someone without any proven evidence criminalising him and without charging him to court. You cannot arrest and keep him in detention arbitrarily.
“Take him to court to face trial. Keeping him in custody despite being a family man was just to intimidate him. This intimidation is also terrorism. Arresting people unjustly is also terrorism; just like the terrorists do by going to somebody’s house to kidnap him.
The Al-Qaeda terrorist network, on Sunday, released a book written by a senior member including a detailed timeline leading up to the attacks on several United States airlines on September 11, 2001, which left nearly 3,000 people dead in three locations.
Marking the 21st anniversary of the attacks, the book was written by Abu Muhammad al-Masri, a senior Al-Qaeda member who was reportedly killed in Iran in 2020.
In the nearly 250-page volume, he said that al-Qaeda had been preparing for an attack targeting US interests since it set foot in Afghanistan in 1996, with the goal of dragging the US into a long-term war of attrition.
The initial idea came up when an Egyptian pilot suggested flying a civilian plane carrying thousands of gallons of flammable material into “an important and symbolic American building,” according to the book shared online by al-Qaeda’s media arm, As-Sahab.
Some militants were chosen for further combat training in 1998 and then enrolled in aviation schools in different parts of the world.
Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited said it lost 470,000 bpd to crude oil theft, especially those perpetrated in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
The loss, it said, has hindered it from reaching its production quotas set by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. This accrues to $700m lost monthly between March and September 2022
However, the company said it has assembled an array of digital control systems to curb the losses.
The Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Services, Bala Wunti, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja.
According to Wunti, the pipelines, particularly those around the Bonny terminal, cannot be operated due to the activities of criminals.
The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has said the 2023 general elections isn’t just an election, but a choice between freedom from the clutches of the All Progressives Congress, or certain doom for Nigeria in their hands.

Atiku said this in a personalized letter to Nigerians on Sunday.
He explained that since the clock for the take off of the campaigns will soon begin to tick, “It is very important that we use the remaining days to organize our base and establish our strength in all the 176,846 polling units across the country.
