1. Drama as NNPP chairman, gov candidate clash over tribunal counsel
A crisis is brewing in the New Nigeria Peoples Party as the Ogun State chairman of the party, Sunday Oginni and the governorship candidate, Olufemi Oguntoyinbo over the choice of counsel to handle their tribunal matter.
The NNPP had filed a petition before the Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun on March 18, 2023.
But, the crisis erupted when on Friday Oguntoyinbo called for the change of the party’s counsel in its petition filed at the tribunal.
Some sections of the media had on Friday reported that the tribunal had granted the request of Oguntoyinbo asking the party’s counsel, Peter Ogah, of the Law Firm of Peter Ogah & Partners, to step down from the case.
2. House leadership: Zone Speaker to South-East, group urges APC
A coalition of civil society organisations, Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, has urged the All Progressives Congress to allow the South-East geopolitical zone to produce the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The National Convener and Lead, Dominic Ogakwu, at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, noted that the APC was “on the cusp of history” to demonstrate that the party was built on equity, inclusivity and justice “as it reaches a decision on zoning of key officers for the 10th National Assembly, especially for the House of Representatives.”
Aspirants for the office of the Speaker in the 10th Assembly, some of whom have yet to officially declare their ambitions, are now over 10.
They include the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, embattled Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gagdi, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations, Aliyu Betara and Chairman, House Committee on Science Research Institutes, Olaide Akinremi.
3. Police postings: IG deploys Egbetokun to Abuja FCID
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has approved the deployment of the recently-promoted Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, who is the supervising DIG for the South-West geo-political zone, to man the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, the IGP also approved the posting/redeployment of 36 Commissioners of Police to various Commands and Formations.
Egbetokun was until his recent promotion the AIG in charge of Zone 7, Abuja, comprising the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State.

GOVERNOR Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has expressed delight that he has been able to keep to his promise not to leave any road started by his administration in Atan Offot community, Uyo local government area uncompleted
Emmanuel, who made the remark on Friday while commissioning a 6.64km Ring Road 2 along Abak and Aka roads in Uyo, renamed the Ring Road, “Chief Udoidiong drive”.
He explained that all the roads that would be commissioned before the end of his tenure would be named after people who have worked for the growth of the state.
5. Why we’re happy with IMF growth forecast for Nigeria – Emefiele
Against the backdrop of a flat rate forecast by the International Monetary Fund, IMF, for Nigeria’s economic growth rate in the 2023 and 2024, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, seems to be impressed, and is set to sustain its recent policy directions.
While the IMF retained its 3.2 percent forecast for 2023 it dropped the 2024 forecast to 3.0 percent from 3.1 percent. The World Bank dropped its forecast to 2.8 percent from 3.0 percent.
Speaking to the journalists on the sidelines of the on-going World Bank and IMF Spring meetings in Washington DC, USA, today, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, said that by retaining its 3.2 percent forecast for 2023 it means the IMF is endorsing the policies the monetary and fiscal authorities have put in place in recent months to address the adverse fallouts from the global economic challenges arising from the war in Ukrain and the global financial crises.
He stated: ‘‘We are delighted that in Sub-Saharan Africa, the growth levels in Nigeria, even though by our assessment is still sub-optimal, that the IMF would, among all the countries in Africa, say that growth in Nigeria should be retained at 3.2%; it gladdens our heart.
6. Notification slip for Mock-UTME exams ready for printing — JAMB
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has asked candidates, who could not sit for the UTME exams held on Thursday, 30th March 2023, on account of technical challenges, to print their notification slips from Friday, 14th April 2023.
JAMB noted that candidates have been rescheduled to take the mock examination on Tuesday, 18th April 2023.
A statement issued on Friday by JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, said only candidates who could not sit for the UTME exams held on Thursday, 30th March 2023, on account of technical challenges are eligible to print the notification slip and sit for the April 18th exams
“In essence, the rescheduled Mock-UTME is only for candidates, who indicated interest, at the point of registration, to sit for the examination but who were not successful during the Thursday, 30th March 2023 exercise on account of technical challenges.

7. 20 injured as Police disperse protesting Shi’ites in Kaduna
No fewer than 20 members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiites sustained varying degrees of injuries when police operatives dispersed them during a procession to mark the International Quds Day.
According to him: “About 20 of our members suffered varying degrees of injuries with 2 of them including a woman sustaining gunshot injury, but so far, we cannot ascertain whether there is any casualty or not.
“Apartheid Israel continues its illegal occupation of Palestine. Incessant terror attacks by the Israeli brutal forces are being done frequently. The gross violations of human rights against Palestinians become the order of the day.
8. NASS supplementary election to hold in 23 LGAs of Sokoto – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State, on Friday disclosed that the April 15 National Assembly Supplementary election will be held in the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
Sidi said the breakdown of the 522 polling units in the Senatorial district supplementary elections stand at 169 polling units for the Sokoto East, 185 polling units for Sokoto North and 168 polling units for Sokoto South respectively.
He gave the breakdown for the Federal Constituencies to include, Binji/Silame Constituency 13 polling units, Kware/Wamakko Constituency 58 polling units, Kebbe/Tambuwal Constituency 56 polling units and Sokoto North/Sokoto South Constituency 99 polling units.
