A civil society organisation, ActionAid Nigeria, has called on the Federal and state governments to develop contingency plans in view of warnings of severe flooding by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency.
The Country Director of AAN, Ene Obi, made this call at a press conference in Abuja, where she charged governments of the coastal states to communicate their contingency plans to the people.
“Now is time for Nigeria, particularly states that were heavily hit last year; Bayelsa, Jigawa, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Abia, and Edo amongst others, to activate their flood preparedness plan, and communicate same to likely communities to be affected to minimise possible losses.”

Some commuters travelling along Osogbo/Ikirun road were in the early hours of Friday abducted at Ayepe community by some people suspected to be bandits.
The victims were said to have been whisked into the bush by their abductors.
Details of how the victims were abducted were not immediately available, but the perpetrators were said to demobilise the vehicle those abducted were travelling in and took them to the bush near the scene of the abduction.
A top security source, who pleaded anonymity, as he was not authorised to comment on the incident, during a chat, told our correspondent that Fulani bandits were suspected.
He added that Fulani bandits were identified as the perpetrators of a similar case of abduction that occurred in Dagbolu, a community also located along the Osogbo/Ikirun expressway on Wednesday.
The President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has petitioned the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to sanction Channels Television for breaching the Nigerian Broadcasting Code during an interview with the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba Ahmed.
The petition was signed by the All Progressives Congress, presidential campaign council Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, and dated March 30 2023.
Tinubu in the petition said “In line with Section 14.0.1 of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code 6th edition stating the duty of the commission to accept complaints from aggrieved persons, bodies or members of the public and investigate as well as apply sanctions where necessary, the APC PCC hereby petitions the commission on breaches by CHANNELS TV on its programme ‘Politics Today’ last week.”
The president-elect accused the Labour Party Vice presidential candidate of making several comments that attacked the integrity of the 25th February 2023 presidential elections.
The Action Peoples Party, APP, governorship candidate in Rivers State election, Dr. Leesi Gborogbosi, has said that the announced results, including that of the state House of Assembly elections, do not represent the will of Rivers people.
Dr. Gborogbosi, in a statement, noted that there were several reported cases of significant infractions, and process deficiencies witnessed in the March 18 state elections in Rivers.
The APP candidate said that he is consulting with his team on the next actions to take in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act to ensure the mandate of the people of Rivers State is recovered.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has slammed a fine of N5 million on Channels Television for breaking the broadcasting law in a programme with Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party Vice Presidential candidate.
This is contained in a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the television station and dated March 27. The letter was exclusively obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
The letter, with the title: “Broadcast of an Inciting Interview, A Sanction”, was signed by Balarabe Ilelah, the commission’s Director-General.
It read in part:” The NBC monitored the broadcast of a live interview of the running mate of the Labour Party Vice presidential candidate, Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed, by the anchor of Politics Today, Seun Okibaloye, on Wednesday, March 22.
