Russia confirmed on Friday that it carried out an airstrike on Kyiv during a visit by the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
Russia’s defence ministry said it had deployed “high-precision, long-range air-based weapons” that “destroyed the production buildings of the Artyom missile and space enterprise in Kyiv.”
The attack was the first of such on the Ukrainian capital in nearly two weeks, and in which a journalist also died.
The journalist, Vera Gyrych, was a producer for the United States-funded Radio, Free Europe/Radio Liberty, who was killed when the Russian missile hit the building where she lived in Kyiv, the media group said.
A suit seeking to disqualify the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, from participating in the All Progressives Congress presidential primary, on grounds of his non-eligibility, has been filed in a High Court in Port Harcourt.
The plaintiff, Naapah Bariledum, who is a member of the APC in Ward 4, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, asked the court, in suit number PHC/1371/CS/2022, to disqualify Emefiele from participating in the primary.
He asked this on the grounds that Emefiele was not eligible to participate in the process in view of the provisions of the 1999 Constitution; the APC Constitution and the CBN Act which he had already violated.
The plaintiff sought an ex-parte order to restrain the CBN governor from participating in the primary pending the final hearing of the suit.
The plaintiff argued, among other things, that Emefiele had not fulfilled the provisions of the CBN Act which would have allowed him to have the legal right to have a valid membership of the APC before participating in the primary.
He asked the court to declare any interest in the presidential race by the CBN governor a nullity.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Friday picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial Nomination and Expression of Interest forms ahead of the primaries for the 2023 elections.
The forms were picked at the APC’s national secretariat in Abuja by a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Mr James Faleke.
Faleke, who also picked presidential Expression of Interest and Nominations forms for APC Leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu, was accompanied by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal and members of the Tinubu Support Groups (TSG) to the party’s secretariat.
The governorship Expression of Interest and Nominations forms were later presented to Gov. Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde.
A member of the House of Representatives and governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Dr. Farah Dagogo, has been remanded in police custody by the Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
Dagogo, who represents Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency, was whisked away from the PDP’s zonal secretariat in Port Harcourt on Thursday 24 hours after Governor Nyesom Wike declared him wanted for allegedly sponsoring cultists that attacked the PDP office.
Dagogo was taken away from the screening hall by a detachment of armed policemen and arraigned on Friday.
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, says he will appoint a “Minister of Stomach Infrastructure” if he emerges president of Nigeria.
Fayose stated this while speaking with newsmen, shortly after his appearance before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Screening Committee in Abuja, on Friday.
The former governor said that when the committee asked him about his stomach infrastructure policy while he was governor of Ekiti State, he made it very clear that it would be part of his policies if he emerged president.
Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the senator representing Anambra North senatorial district, Senator Stella Oduah, saying she was never a member of its party
Tribune Online learnt Oduah had, on Thursday, announced her defection from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stating that she was back to her family, after leaving the party for APC shortly before the Anambra State governorship election in November 2021.
But Anambra chapter of APC, while reacting to the exit of the party said she was ab initio, never a member of APC, talk more of leaving the party. A press release by the factional state publicity secretary of the party, Okelo Madukife, on Friday, in Awka, dismissed the senator, saying that like others who announced their defection to
APC before the Anambra governorship election, they were never welcomed, and accepted into the party, and can not claim to be their members.
He said: “On the contrary, Sen. Oduah, alongside many PDP and APGA legislators at national and state-level never left their respective political parties for APC last year in the build-up to Anambra State governorship elections, beyond photo ops in high places, outside the state.
“They only shared an understanding to pursue an illegitimate business through APC platform, but the business failed in the face of a stout resistance from the close-knit membership in a party that fairly believes in the due process.”
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed its personnel nationwide as part of a collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other stakeholders to ensure smooth flow of traffic and emergency response during the Sallah celebration.
The deployment is a continuation of a similar exercise during the recent Easter celebration and would last for a period of one week.
NEMA offices nationwide have been asked to deploy personnel and equipment this weekend to strategic road corridors that usually experience high volume of vehicular movements during festivities.
The deployment is also aimed at rallying the support of relevant stakeholders towards assisting the FRSC, which is the lead agency to minimise road crashes and prompt response to emergencies.
