1. Bandits abduct Zamfara lawmaker’s wife, children
Bandits have abducted the wife and four children of a member, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Aminu Ardo Jangebe.
Also abducted were his two neighbours, Alhaji Yahaya and Sa,adu Mainama.
Speaking to The PUNCH on the phone, an indigene of the town, Sani Abubakar said the bandits arrived the town around 11 o’clock pm on Thursday and began to shoot sporadically to scare away people.
Abubakar explained that many people took to their heels on hearing the gunshots, while others shut their doors to avoid abduction.
2. Anambra: Robbers stole phones not babies —Hospital CMD
The Chief Medical Director, National Medical Centre, Nkpologwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Dr Stanley Izuehie, has said that gunmen did not take away four newborn babies from its facility as has been speculated, but rather, it was robbers that invaded the hospital and snatched handsets and other valuables from patients.
Izuehie, while dismissing the reports of stolen babies, said the robbery incident happened two weeks ago.
There have been reports making the rounds alleging that gunmen attacked a maternity hospital in Nkpologwu in
Aguata LGA of the state and taking away four newborn babies.
A source in the area had confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday.
3. Insecurity: IGP inaugurates five gunboats in Lagos
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Friday, commissioned projects successfully completed by his administration in Lagos State.
Amongst the newly commissioned projects are five operational gunboats acquired by the Baba’s administration for patrols and response to emergencies on internal waterways.
The Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed in a Friday statement obtained by our correspondent.
Adejobi noted that the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, the Special Guest of Honour at the commissioning, who was accompanied by the Baba to the commissioning venue at the Police Marine Office, Victoria Island, Lagos, commended the IGP for his special focus on the acquisition of operational hardware for the NPF, noting that it is a worthy legacy that will effectively improve the operational capacity and capability of the police.

4. 2023: APC states denying us use of public facilities, PDP Campaign cries out
The Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party has raised the alarm over the growing trend among states controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress, to deny it access to public space for campaigns.
Director of Strategic Communication of the campaign, Otumba Dele Momudu, raised the alarm at a media briefing, in Abuja, on Friday.
He expressed regret that this was happening in a democracy which is supposed to be a market place of ideas and alternative opinions.
5. ACPN to FG: Stop migration of pharmacists through rejigged NHIA
The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, ACPN, urged the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Health to rejig the new National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, in order to halt the mass emigration of pharmacists from the country.
They insisted that unless the community pharmacists’ right place is protected in the new NHIA act, the assurance of the totality of care for Nigerians may become a mirage.
Speaking recently at the National Summit on Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria, organised by the ACPN in Lagos, the National Chairman of the association, Pharm. Wale Oladigbolu, noted that without the inclusion of community pharmacists in the services of a prescription under the National Health Insurance System, the health insurance will miss it and be on the verge of failing.
6. I’ll attract federal presence to Enugu — Frank Nweke
As the 2023 general election draws near, Governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Frank Nweke Jr, has promised to attract federal presence to Enugu State if elected.
The governorship candidate made this known during a town hall meeting with the people of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, in support of his quest to emerge as governor in 2023 and engender transformational leadership in the state.
Nweke vowed to compel Abuja to rehabilitate the 9th Mile-Obollo Afor federal road that runs across Igbo-Etiti connecting various communities and leading out-of-State.

7. Diesel cost: NRC hikes fares on Lagos-Ibadan-Abeokuta route
The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has released new prices for Lagos-Ibadan and Lagos-Abeokuta train services.
The NRC, in a memo addressed to its station managers and staff, said the decision to increase the fares was due to the high cost of diesel.
“The new fare on Lagos – Ibadan Train Service (LITS):
“Lagos – Ibadan, and Ibadan – Lagos; First class (N9,000); Business (N6,500); Standard- adult (N3,600), minor (N3,000).
“Lagos – Abeokuta, and Abeokuta – Lagos; First class (N6,000); Business (N4,500); Standard- adult (N3,000), minor (N2,000).
“Abeokuta – Ibadan, and Ibadan – Abeokuta; First Class (N3,000); Business (N2,000); Standard- adult (N1,000), minor (N600),” the memo stated.
8. Court sacks Ebonyi council chairmen again
The Abakaliki Division of the Federal High Court has nullified the Ebonyi Local government elections and sacked all the 13 Council chairmen in the State again.
The court also sacked all the 171 ward councilors elected same day with the chairmen.
The court on August 25 nullified the council polls of May 31.
Ruling on the matter with suit NO: FHC/AI/CS/224/2022 on Friday, Justice Fatun Riman ordered the seizure of the monthly federal allocation of the chairmen pending when rightful Chief Executives are elected into office.

9. Declare free education for female students – Dr Remi Medupin
A renowned Nigerian Development Economist, Dr Aderemi Medupin, has called on the Federal and state governments to declare female education free to enhance enrollment and the development of the country.
He described female education as key to the overall development of Nigeria.
Delivering a lecture titled “Girls Education in Nigeria” at the Government Secondary School, Afon, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara state on Friday as part of the ‘Weekend Service to Humanity’ activities of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), Dr Medupin, advised the female students of the co-educational institution to take their academic activities seriously to make progress in life.
He described education as their passport to a good life, adding that “if you want to make progress in life, you need education in all the careers in life.”
10. 2023: Ogun PDP flags off campaign, slams APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, the party on Friday flagged off its campaign.
This followed the verdict of the Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan, which reinstated Ladi Adebutu as the governorship candidate of the party.
Members of the PDP from the 236 wards of Ogun State converged on the Ake Palace Ground in Abeokuta for the event.
DAILY POST recalls that the Ogun PDP had since September 27 been enmeshed in crisis after an Abeokuta Federal High Court nullified the party’s primary.
