Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Major Newspapers in Nigeria
PUNCH NEWSPAPER
1. Buhari consistent with anti-corruption fight — Don
A professor of Public Administration and Politics, Yaki Katuka, has said that President, Major General Muhammadu (retd.), has been consistent in his anti-corruption fight, both as a former military Head of State and as the democratically elected President of Nigeria.
The don said this during the launching of a book titled, ‘Inside Buhari’s War Room’, written by Philip Agbese, in Abuja on Thursday.
Katuka said, “President Buhari has remained consistent in his anti-corruption fight, both as a former military Head of State and as a democratically elected President of Nigeria.
“Another interesting part is that, sometimes, people mix these things. Persons such as Ibrahim Babangida, Sanni Abacha, Murtala Muhammed, were never presidents. They were heads of state, but Buhari was not only a military Head of State, he is now a president.”
Katuka further revealed that, as chairman, Northern Christian Professors, he was initially bothered about the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, adding that he was, however, relieved after Tinubu and his team later explained the reasons for such decision to him.
2. Why Buhari didn’t approve Fayose’s impeachment —Adesina
Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has revealed why the president did not approve the impeachment of the former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, from office when he had the power and opportunity.
Adesina made the revelation in an article he wrote to celebrate Buhari on his 80th birthday slated for December 17 (tomorrow).
The president’s special adviser said it is because Buhari has “no malicious bone in his body,” that was why he did not effect Fayose’s impeachment through the Ekiti State House of Assembly, which at the time was largely dominated by members of the All Progressives Congress.
In the article titled ‘Buhari at 80: No Malicious Bone In His Body’, Adesina recalled how Fayose had tackled Buhari in the build up to the 2014 elections and how he had said the president, if elected back then, would not survive his tenure in office.
3. Court voids murder, terrorism charges against CUPP spokesperson
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday voided the police investigation report and charges against the Spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties, Ikenga Ugochinyere.
The court also awarded the sum of N5 million only as general and exemplary damages in his favour.
Delivering her judgment, Justice Binta Mohammed, held that the purpose of both the illegal police investigation report and the trumped up charges was to frame the applicant so as to breach his fundamental human rights.
The court consequently set aside the allegations of murder, arson, attacks on INEC offices, hacking of INEC data, robbery, breach of national security and terrorism, describing it as trumped-up criminal charges.
