1. I will restore rule of law, Obi vows
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said that he and his vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, will restore the rule of law in Nigeria if elected in the 2023 general elections.
Obi, who spoke during the LP presidential campaign rally in Bayelsa State, which was held at the Oxbow Lake Pavilion in Yenagoa on Friday, said that citizens would no longer be harrased by the police and other security agencies.
According to him, the responsibility of the government is to cater to the poor.
Obi said, “The purpose of government is to care for the poor. Datti and I have said we will secure and unite Nigeria. We will make sure that Nigerians are governed by the rule of law. The were will no more police harassment. Police will no longer harass students for having laptops.
2. Agitation for Yoruba nation won’t succeed –Akeredolu
The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has condemned the continuous agitation for a Yoruba nation by some groups in the South-West, saying such agitation would thwart the efforts of those who had laid their lives for the unity of Nigeria.
Akeredolu, who is the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, vowed that no state in the South-West region would allow any agitation that would scuttle the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.
He made this declaration at the inauguration of the emblem appeal to flag off the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrations held at the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service Hall, Akure, the state capital.
The governor said, “Those clamouring for Oodua Nation will not succeed. People have not laid down their lives for this country for unscrupulous individuals to scuttle it. This country is very important to some of us.
3. MASSOB flays FG for cancelling eastern railway project
The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State Of Biafra has lambasted the Federal Government for its resolution to cancel the reconstruction of the eastern railway project.
MASSOB in a statement in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Friday issued by its leader, Uchenna Madu, accused the FG of deliberately marginalising the people of the South-East region in infrastructural development.
The separatist group said that the FG had continued to use funds realised from oil deposits from the South-East region to develop northern states at the detriment of the Igbo people.
MASSOB also rejected a report by the FG that the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company workers were incessantly harassed by youths in Abia State.

4. 2023: Atiku’ll change poor conditions of Niger Delta, if elected — Okowa
VICE-PRESIDENTIAL Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Thursday, said Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would change the poor conditions in the oil-bearing areas in the Niger Delta through full implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, including a provision on host communities’ fund if elected.
Okowa who stated this at PDP’s Governorship campaign flag-off in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas said that so much fund was needed for the development of oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta.
Saying that Deltans were privileged to have one of their own selected to become Vice-President in the next dispensation, he told the people to rise and collectively support PDP. “We must work hard to ensure victory for the party”, he added.
He held that the Atiku-Okowa ticket would take care of some of the teething problems facing the nation, adding that; “we have resolved to ensure that our people are taken care of, particularly the oil bearing communities.
5. Police prosecute 12 APC, 2 PDP members over violence at political rallies in Borno
The Police Command in Borno, on Thursday, said that a total of 14 persons were facing trial in court over alleged violence during political rallies in the state.
Briefing journalists in Maiduguri on the command’s achievements in the year, the Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, said that seven cases were being prosecuted in court.
He said that 12 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were being prosecuted for offences bordering on threat with violence and unlawful possession of weapons.
Other charges preferred against the defendants are disturbing the peace, inciting others in a disorderly manner, as well as causing hurt and mischief.
6. Army, DSS, others deployed to INEC offices in Imo – REC
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Friday said that security personnel have been deployed to its offices in Imo state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Sylvia Agu disclosed this during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday.
According to him: “Security men have been deployed, stationed in those areas. At the headquarters, we have the army, the Civil Defence, and the DSS. In the various local governments, we are using vigilante groups; we are using Ebubeagu group too and we have 100 percent assurance from the security men – not just giving us the assurance, they are already on the ground,” she said.
“That particular building is one housing the election party monitoring department (EPM), security, the transport office, and some of the accounts building (sic). It’s very destructive, but we thank God because it did not affect our sensitive materials.”

7. Ex-Force PRO Frank MBA, other commissioners redeployed
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba on Friday ordered the posting of seven Commissioners of Police to various commands and formations across the country.
It followed their completion of the Senior Executive Course 44 at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
The newly posted Commissioners of Police include Sadiq Abubakar to FCT Abuja; Mba to Border Patrol Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Arungwa N. Udo to DFA Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Bardaru B. Lawal to General Investigations, Force Criminal Investigations Department Annex, Kaduna.
8. Alimosho gets new network of roads, jetty
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday opened the Ishuti Road, Ishefun-Camp Davies-Ijon-Lasu Ojo-Ijo road network with jetty terminal, all at Alimosho Local Government Area.
He described the jetty as strategic to residents of the area as it connects them to Ogun State, thereby enhancing business and social activities.
The jetty will help travellers get to Ogun State within five minutes.
The governor thanked the people of Alimosho for their support, noting that the council area is the largest in Nigeria, and solicited their continued support, especially at the polls.

9. Return official vehicles in your custody – Osun govt tells Oyetola, wife, former appointees
The immediate past governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, his wife, Kafayat Oyetola and other former political appointees have been directed to immediately return official vehicles which are in their possession.
The directive was given by the Asset Recovery Panel of the Osun State Government on Friday in Osogbo.
The directive was made known in a statement signed by Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke and obtained by DAILY POST.
The Asset Recovery Panel headed by Bashiru Tokunbo Salam revealed that the vehicles are valued at N2.9 billion adding that the former officials had gone away with the various models of vehicles without any legal basis for such action.
10. U-20 AFCON: Flying Eagles drawn hosts Egypt, Senegal, Mozambique in Group A
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been handed a tough draw for the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
