1. Aisha Buhari withdraws case against Aminu
The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has withdrawn the case against the final year student of the Federal University, Dutse, Aminu Mohammed, following pressure and condemnation by activists, Amnesty International, the National Association of Nigerian Students, and other citizens.
The PUNCH reports that the prosecution counsel Fidelis Ogbobe, withdrawing the case on behalf of Mrs Buhari, said the First Lady, being the mother of the nation, decided to withdraw the case, following the intervention of “well-meaning Nigerians.”
Moving a motion for the withdrawal of the case, Ogbobe cited section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court commended Mrs Buhari for withdrawing the case.
2. Collection of PVCs commences December 12 – INEC
The independent National Electoral Commission, on Friday, noted that citizens who participated in the voters’ registration exercise ahead of the 2023 general elections would be able to collect their Permanent Voters Cards from December 12, 2022.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja.
According to the statement, the Commission met, on Thursday, December 1 2022, and deliberated on a number of issues, including the dates for the collection of Permanent Voters Cards nationwide.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Commission held a retreat in Lagos with all the Administrative Secretaries and Resident Electoral Commissioners from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory from November 28 to December 2, 2022. At the retreat, the Commission finalised the procedure as well as the timetable for the collection of PVCs.
3. Institute chair raises the alarm on data robbery
The Chairman of Audit Committee Institute, Chris Ekeigwe, has called on the audit technology professionals in Nigeria to immediately review their security protocols.
Ekeigwe, in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Friday, said this would forestall what he described as imminent data robbery.
According to the IT expert, computer security auditors needed to be reminded that the economics of computer crime is compelling, thereby making criminals to be incentivised to try.
He said, “It is important that IT audit consultants invest in novel prospective security technologies and enhance staff behaviour and operating procedures to ensure that client data are not put at risk. Society relies on our expertise and we must fulfil our public interest duty with professionalism.”

4. Wike to Buhari: Name govs extorting from LGs funds
GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike has challenged President Mohammadu Buhari to name state governors that are steal from funds allocated to their Local Governments (LGs).
Wike, at Friday’s inauguration of Mgbuosimini Ring and Internal Roads in Rumueme Kingdom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, was responding to the Buhari’s sweeping indictment of Nigeria governors for allegedly dipping hands into LG funds.
Absolving self of Buhari’s allegation, Wike, fired back, “You said governors are taking local government funds. I want to say in the name of almighty God, I have never touched local government funds one day.
“I have never, have no reason to do that. So, Mr. President tell us who are those people? You know them, tell us. It is not good to make class defamation of saying governors. Please, I am not one of those governors.
5. Alleged corruption: I am innocent, accountable – NCPC boss reacts
EXECUTIVE Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, NCPC, Rev Yakubu Pam, has declared that he is innocent of the corruption allegations made against him by the Catholic Bishop of Yola, Most Rev. Stephen Dami Mamza.
Bishop Mamza had alleged massive corruption at the NCPC and called for Pam’s resignation, accusing him of shortchanging pilgrims of their accommodation money during the recent trip to Rome, the capital of Italy. He also urged the anti-graft agencies to wade in.
However, the NCPC Executive Secretary dismissed the Bishop’s allegations saying he is innocent. He also urged Nigerians to hold him responsible, if he fails to render a satisfactory account of his stewardship at the helm of affairs in the Commission.
Pam stated these on Friday when old students of College of Mary Immaculate, Zawan in Jos, Plateau state, paid him a solidarity visit in Abuja.
6. I was tempted to merge FRSC with other agencies – Obasanjo
Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday recalled how temptations to merge the Federal Road Special Corps (FRSC) with other organizations were resisted by him, while he served as civilian President between 1999 and 2007.
The organization was established by former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida in 1988, after which Obasanjo came as Civilian President in 1999.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi on Friday, Obasanjo disclosed that he had temptations to merge the organization with other agencies while he was in Office.
The former President who played host to the Corps delegation, led by Deputy Corp Marshall, Susan Akenge in his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Penthouse residence, commended the Corps for keeping sanity on the country’s roads despite the increasing population and the economy.

7. FG makes 500m dollars from 5G Spectrum auction
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Ali Pantami said that the Federal Government has generated over 500 million dollars from the 5G Spectrum licence auction.
He stated this at a news conference on the implication of unauthorised use and sale of private mobile radio, on Friday in Kano.
Represented by Dr Famous Eseduwo, Director, Human Resources in the ministry, Pantami said the 5G Spectrum could support Nigeria’s economy if well managed.
The minister said, “Spectrum licence is required to transmit radio waves within assigned spectrum so that the economic benefits can be harnessed.
8. Labour demands suspension of Niger revenue board chairman
The Organised Labour in Niger State has called on Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello to suspend chairman of Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Muhammad Madami Etsu.
The call for suspension followed the petition on alleged misconduct against the chairman and the constitution of a committee by the State Government to investigate the allegations.
The Organised Labour gave the Governor till Monday December 5 to suspend Etsu or face industrial actions.
The demand was contained in a letter by Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) Niger chairman, Idris Lafene and TUC Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Gana dated November 30, 2022 after an emergency meeting of the State Administrative Council of the Organised Labour.

9. 2023: Stop playing God over Tinubu – Keyamo blasts critics
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has cautioned Nigerians for criticizing the health status of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Keyamo said critics should stop playing God over Tinubu’s health or life.
He stressed that those criticizing Tinubu’s health had not done as much state-by-state campaigns and town hall meetings like him.
In a series of tweets, Keyamo wrote: “Those who act as if they’re God & deride @officialABAT by suggesting he’s frail have not done as much State by State campaigns and Town Hall meetings/Stakeholders’ Engagements as much as he has done. 10. 2023: Submit yourselves to drug test – Niger LP guber candidate to rivals
The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Niger State, Mr Joshua Bawa has called on other gubernatorial candidates to submit themselves to a drug test to prove they are not conducting campaigns or holding meetings under the influence of hard drugs.
The LP governorship candidate made the call at the Peace Empowerment Security Summit organized by a group of youths under the aegis of Mandate Youths in Minna.
Bawa argued that the call became necessary due to the behavioural pattern of some of the youths who follow the alleged politicians around the state.
Bawa insisted:” I am ready to submit myself to the drug test by NDLEA. I challenge the governorship candidates in all political parties in Niger State to also submit themselves. It would enable the electorates to know the state [of mind] of their candidates.
