1. Naira, fuel scarcity: Ogun begins distribution of palliatives

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Friday, said his administration would begin the distribution of food items to residents of the state as part of measures to alleviate their suffering caused by the scarcity of fuel and the new naira notes.

Abiodun said the new development became necessary following the lingering fuel and scarcity of cash crises that had made life unbearable for the people.

The governor announced this while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He said “As a responsible administration, despite all the aforementioned, and worried about how long this has taken to resolve, we have decided to directly provide palliatives to the poor and vulnerable citizens across the length and breadth of the state.

2. Activist rescues Delta minor locked in toilet by aunt

Popular human right activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has rescued a minor locked up in a toilet by aunty in Delta State.

The activist shared the video on his Instagram page on Friday.

It was gathered that the minor, identified only as Blessing, was locked in the toilet without food or water and was allegedly told by her aunt to drink the toilet water when thirsty.

Gwamnishu said, “I am here in Ogwashi Uku for a young girl that cried out from a toilet widow.

3. Teenager found guilty of planning school attack in Germany

A teenager was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence in Germany on Friday for planning a deadly attack on a school he attended, a court spokeswoman said.

The 17-year-old was found guilty of planning a serious act of violence endangering the state, the spokeswoman for the higher regional court in Duesseldorf said.German prosecutors had previously said the teenager, named as Jeremy R., planned the “right-wing extremist motivated attack” for May 13, 2022.The massacre using explosives and various other weapons was only narrowly prevented when he was arrested the day before.

4. Armed herders kill six, raze houses, food barns in Benue

At least six persons have been reportedly killed in Nagi community, Mbachohon Council Ward of Gwer West Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state by suspected armed Fulani herders who attempted to storm Naka, the Headquarters of the Council but were repelled by the military.

Vanguard gathered that the marauders who left scores with injuries also razed several houses in the community including the residence of the traditional ruler of the community.

This latest attack is coming just 10 days after the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the Gwer West LGA, Superintendent, SP, Mamud Abubakar was also killed by the marauders in an ambush.

5. Petrol shortage: Pump price remains at N184 per litre – Minister

THE Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timpre Sylva, has put the pump price of petrol at N184 per litre.

The Minister of state, who was in Lagos, Friday, to monitor the supply and compliance of oil marketers, said the government has taken bold steps toward enhancing supply of the product nationwide.

Speaking to journalists after the tour of filling stations, Sylva said that an interministerial intervention initiated by the Federal Government has set out to ensure proper management of petrol distribution across the nation.

6. Polls: Ohanaeze youths call for disbandment of Ebube Agu in Ebonyi

Ahead of the February 23 and March 12 general elections, the apex Socio-cultural youth organization of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Ohanaeze Youth Council, (OYC) has called on the federal government to disband Ebube Agu Security Network, in Ebonyi State.

OYC made the call in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka and sent to Vanguard in Abuja on Friday.

Igboayaka who described Ebube Agu as militia group of the State governor, Engr. David Umahi added that the security outfit is now a terror to the people.

7. Why I killed Ogun couple, son- Prime suspect

The alleged mastermind of the gruesome murder of couple Mr Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye on New Year Day in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has explained why he carried out the act.

The suspect, Lekan Adekanbi, according to the police, said he arranged the killing because the couple refused to increase his salary.

The suspect, who allegedly enlisted the help of two suspected cultists to kill the couple, also killed their only son, Oreoluwa, who they bound with rope and hurled into a river at Adigbe area of Abeokuta.

Adekanbi claimed the couple declined his loan request, explaining the New Year robbery attack on them was to forcefully extract money from them.

8. Gowon commiserates with Adesina, AfDB president over mother’s death

Gen. Yakubu Gowon, retired has commiserated with Dr Akinwunmi Adesina over the death of his mother, Mrs Eunice Adesina.

This is contained in a condolence letter written to Adesina, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

Mrs Adesina died on Dec. 22, 2022.

The former head of state said Mama exhibited the best of her callings in academia and enterprise development across the globe.

Senator Chimaroke Nnamani (PDP-Enugu) says he is still in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in spite of his purported suspension by the National Working Committee (NWC).

DAILY POST had reported that the PDP expelled Nnamani and six others

Nnamani, who represents Enugu-East at the National Assembly said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

He said that the NWC had no powers to suspend or expel him from the party.

10. EPL: Potter reacts to Boehly liking tweet calling Chelsea star not good enough for Blues

Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, has insisted that a recent tweet ‘liked’ by the club’s co-owner Todd Boehly’s Twitter account criticising defender Marc Cucurella is ‘not a reflection’ of the American billionaire.

On Thursday, Boehly’s Twitter account liked a tweet from football.london with an article carrying quotes from Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf.

“We don’t want to see Cucurella anymore,” Leboeuf said. “With all due respect to a man that I don’t know, the player is not good enough for Chelsea. It is as simple as that.”

When asked about the development, Potter told a press conference on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with West Ham United on Saturday: “I don’t know, I can’t comment. It’s nothing I would say is a reflection of Todd in any way.
