1. Ibadan poly bans use of cross-bags on campus
The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in Oyo State, has banned the use of cross-bags by students on its campus.
A cross-bag, or crossbody bag, is a type of bag that rests against the body with the help of a strap that comes across the body. It is designed to be worn on one side of the body with the strap looped over the opposite shoulder.
The institution announced the ban in an internal memorandum released by its Directorate of Student Affairs and signed by the Deputy Registrar (SA), Gboyega Odejobi, on Thursday.
2. Abducted Baptist members regain freedom after N4m ransom
Two members of the Osun Baptist Conference held while delivering ransom to abductors in a community in Kogi State have regained their freedom.
The two persons had gone to deliver N6 million to secure the release of two farmers, Samuel Oladotun and Fashola Tobiloba, abducted by gunmen in the Oke Osun area, Ileogbo, Osun State, when they were also held and fresh N24m ransom demanded.
But a letter obtained in Osogbo on Friday signed by the President of Osun Baptist Conference, Dr. Paul Kolawole, and addressed to Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, said the last two victims were released on Friday.
The letter thanked the governor for his intervention and said a sum of N10m was paid for the release of all the victims.
3. British Prime Minister fined for not wearing seatbelt
The United Kingdom Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, was fined on Friday by the British police for not wearing a seatbelt in the back of a moving car while on a trip to northern England.
Sunak, who recorded an Instagram video on Thursday, was seen turning in his seat to talk to the camera without a seatbelt on, a video that has now been deleted from the social media site.
The PM’s office at Downing Street said the incident was a “brief error of judgment”, but Lancashire constabulary announced they were fining Sunak for the infraction, The Guardian UK says.
The force said: “You will be aware that a video has been circulating on social media showing an individual failing to wear a seatbelt while a passenger in a moving car in Lancashire.

4. PAP suspends scholarship of two amnesty beneficiaries
The Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, has suspended two students from its scholarship scheme for what it described as making spurious allegations against the leadership of PAP.
The students were identified as Patrick Ipidei and Papems Peter Etolor.
PAP leadership said this in a statement by Mr. Freston Akpor, Special Assistant, Media to the Interim Coordinator of PAP Major-General Barry Ndiomu, retd.
The statement reads: “We have received very disturbing reports of the horrendous activities of Messrs Patrick Ipidei and Papems Peter Etolor, two students under the ongoing PAP scholarship scheme.
5. Obi/Datti says LP ticket represents capacity to make Nigeria work
The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to vote for him and his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed in the 2023 Presidential election as their ticket represents capacity and commitment to make Nigeria work for Nigerians.
Obi spoke on Friday in Jos during the Labour Party Presidential campaign rally at the Rwang Pam township stadium in Jos, Plateau State where he pledged to work with his team to build a new Nigeria.
Before his remark, he asked the impressive crowd to observe a minute silence for some supporters of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP who lost their lives in the State last weekend while returning from a rally.
He stated, “… Our government will bring government close to the people. We want to build a new Nigeria, a new Nigeria is possible. We are here to pledge that we are here to salvage Nigeria… I am contesting as a Nigerian and the most qualified… My running mate and I are people of character, character is important to us… If you vote for us, we will make Nigeria work because we are responsible people…”
6. Dani Alves sacked by club over sexual assault allegations
Mexico’s Pumas announced Friday that they had terminated Dani Alves’ contract after the veteran Brazil defender was arrested and remanded in custody in Spain on allegations of sexual assault.
The Pumas, who signed Alves last July, “made the decision to terminate the player’s employment contract with just cause,” club president Leopoldo Silva told reporters.
