1. PDP rejects Osun tribunal judgment, insists Adeleke won

The Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the judgement of the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal which nullified the mandate freely given to the party and its candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke by the people of the state in the July 16, 2022 governorship election.

The PUNCH had reported that the state governorship election tribunal nullified Adeleke’s victory and declared Adegboyega Oyetola, the winner of the election on Friday.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Friday in Abuja, stated that the judgment of the tribunal was contrary to the will of the people of the state which was expressed by the overwhelming votes cast for the party and its candidate at the election.

2. ‘My son died after I consoled man who lost nine children’

The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said that his son died a day after consoling a man who lost nine children and 70 cows.

He added the loss of his 36-year-old son, Hassan, was a test from God to see if he was sincere in consoling the bereaved father.

The governor stated this on Friday while receiving condolences at the palace of his father, the Sarkin Gudi, HRH Alhaji Sule Bawa, in Akwanga LGA.

He said from the experiences he had gathered from the Holy Qu’ran, God promised to test the faith of every believer, saying, “This is my time to be tested.”

3. Man City beat Arsenal, reach FA Cup fifth round

Manchester City struck first blood against Arsenal as Nathan Ake’s goal earned Pep Guardiola’s men a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win on Friday.

The sides will meet twice more in the next three months in the Premier League with the title on the line.

Arsenal hold a five-point lead over the defending champions at the top of the table, but fell to their first defeat since November at the Etihad.

4. Minister’s wife assures A’Ibom youths of better days under Tinubu, Shettima

The wife of the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor (Mrs) Florence Umana has assured youths in Akwa Ibom State of better days when the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and vice, Kashim Shettima are elected into office in the forthcoming presidential election.

Mrs Umana, who gave the assurance for support when the Progressives Youths for Tinubu/Shettima, Akwa Ibom State chapter paid her a courtesy visit in Uyo, noted that Mr Tinubu has a track record of developing youths as a former governor and would replicate same as the president of Nigeria.

Mrs Umana, who is the National Coordinator for Niger Delta Youths/Women for Tinubu and Shettima, further urged the youths to mobilise other youths and groups across the state and turn out massively for the APC presidential campaign in Uyo on Monday, January 30.

She assured the youths that Mr Tinubu has a rich manifesto that prioritises the youths through wealth creation, employment and inclusive government, adding that his achievements in that area as a former are available and can be verified.

5. Firefighters mobbed in Jabi, as fire razes Abuja apartment, filling station

Firefighters drawn from the Federal Fire Service FFS and the Federal Capital Territory FCT Fire Service had their hands full on Friday evening following an outbreak of fire at an unmarked apartment in the highbrow Jabi area of the territory.

The apartment is House 6 on Patrick O. Bokkor Crescent, adjacent NCDC Office.

While the firefighters battled the Jabi inferno, a filling station by Halli Brothers in the Wuse Zone 1 area of the territory.

6. 19 bag 1st class as Abia varsity graduates 3,757 students

No fewer than 19 graduands bagged first class honours as the Abia State University Uturu, Friday, graduated 3,757 students.

This is as Miss Oluomachi Agbazuere, daughter of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s ex-Chief of Staff, and Information Commissioner, Professor A. C. B Agbazuere, won her father’s Best Graduating Student award prize of N.5 million.

The Isila Ngwa South-born young Law graduate made a total of 4.75 Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate, CGPA.

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, on Friday said the 2023 elections are about youths and they should seize the opportunity to make their mark.

Obi said this when he featured at a Town hall engagement with students of University of Abuja, organised by the University’s Leadership Cente in Abuja .

The candidate, who gave facts and figures of where Nigeria was and where it would be if voted in as President on Feb. 25, said education would not suffer under his watch and there would be no industrial action.

He said that all the problems of the country, be it economic, education, health, politics and so on, revolved around political leadership that had failed the country over the years.
