Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Major Newspapers in Nigeria
Punch Newspaper
1. Osun poll: Aregbesola’s faction declares stand
The Osun Progressives, a faction of the All Progressives Congress loyal to the Minister of Interior Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola, has broken silence on the Osun State Governorship election holding Saturday.
The TOP’s position was contained in a post shared by a former commissioner in the state, Sikiru Ayedun, on Friday.
The group reiterated that it remains a part of the APC despite alleged maltreatment of its members by the Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration.
Earlier, there had been speculation that TOP may work for the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Ademola Adeleke, in the election:
The PUNCH had reported that 15 political parties are participating in the election, while 1,955,657 registered voters will decide the fate of the candidates.
2. APC PWDs endorse Oyetola for second term
Persons With Disabilities in Osun State have thrown their weight behind the reelection of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
Oyetola faces an uphill task of defeating the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, in his quest to return for a second term in office on Saturday.
A number of the PDP big wigs including the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had on Thursday, stormed the state, where they charged voters to vote for Adeleke and wait to monitor their votes on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Friday, the APC National Leader of Persons Living with Disabilities, Tolu Bankole, disclosed that Oyetola had earned the admiration and trust of the PWDs community due to his people-oriented programmes and initiatives since 2018.
Bankole stated that the decision to endorse the governor was carefully taken after extensive deliberations among the various PWDs clusters in the party.
3. Muslim-Muslim ticket won’t Islamise Nigeria – Bayelsa APC chieftain
A founding member of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Preye Aganaba, has tackled the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, over his comments that the APC Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket was dangerous for the country.
He said the arrangement would not lead to the Islamisation of Nigeria as touted by Lawal, describing his remarks as “disappointing, inflammatory and extreme”.
Aganaba, who reacted to the former SGF’s position while addressing APC faithful in Yenagoa, on Friday, said Lawal crossed the line of responsibility expected of him as an elder and delved into the arena of scaremongering.
He said it was unimaginable that Lawal, who should have known better, toed the path of the opposition political leaders, who whipped similar religious sentiments against the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), during the 2015 and 2019 general elections.
The APC chieftain said, “This is the same Lawal, who as SGF, couldn’t balance political appointments between contending political groups within the APC and between geopolitical zones that led to a lot of backlash on the President.
“We recall how the opposition continued with their narratives that Buhari was going to Islamise Nigeria despite having a Christian Vice-President. Buhari has been the president for over seven years. Has he Islamised Nigeria? The answer is no. It is on record that the Boko Haram insurgents are the enemies of everyone. These terrorists have killed more Muslims than Christians.

4. 2023: Court dismisses suit against A’Ibom PDP Congress
Justice Obiora Egwuata of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Friday dismissed as incompetent and lacking in merit, a suit challenging the validity of the April 30, 2022 PDP Ward Congress in Akwa Ibom State.
Delivering judgement in Suit No.FHC/ABJ/CS/606/2022 between FRIDAY IWOK & ORS V INEC & ORS, Justice Egwuata ruled that the Court has no jurisdiction to try the suit because the Plaintiffs had no locus standi, submitting that the suit borders on the internal affairs of the PDP and that the case discloses no reasonable cause of action.
The Court also held that the plaintiffs did not prove that the PDP disenfranchised any of its members and failed to show any evidence of people shortlisted for the ward congress, thus unable to prove how their rights were breached.
On the Plaintiffs application for the nullification of the PDP primaries, the court held that it has no power to stop or restrain the conduct of any primary elections and upheld the validity of the April 30, 2022 Akwa Ibom PDP Ad-hoc delegates congress thereby giving judicial backing to all primaries held by the party as being valid and in line with constitutional requirement and the Electoral Act 2022 as amended.

Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate has drawn outrage from certain quarters as they are both Muslims.
But speaking on Friday when he received a visit from an APC group led by a former Nigerian ambassador to the US, Mohammed Hassan, the former Governor of Borno state said he and Tinubu want to transform the country.
“They are accusing him of an attempt to Islamise the country. Has he started with Islamising his own family?
