1. Falling naira: EFCC raids Bureau De Change firms
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday raided the Wuse Zone 4 bureau de change hub of Abuja over the falling naira.
The PUNCH learnt the EFCC operatives are investigating claims that some individuals are mopping up and hoarding foreign currency thereby causing a scarcity that is driving up the value of the dollar.
An EFCC detective who wished to remain anonymous said, “It is true. We stormed bureau de change firms in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, for a covert operation to dislodge currency speculators who are alleged to be massively mopping up available foreign currencies.
“The raid is a product of weeks of surveillance in which agents of the EFCC have been monitoring the activities of most of the bureau de change operators in the Wuse 4 axis.
2. Our members missing, feared kidnapped – Actors Guild
The Actors Guild of Nigeria on Friday said two of its members, Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel aka (Agbogidi) were reportedly missing.
The actors’ body in a statement claimed that the thespains’ families have confirmed that both actors were yet to return from a film Location at Ozalla Town, Enugu State.
The National President of the Guild, Ejezie Emeka Rollas, in a statement by the body’s Director of Communications, Monalisa Chinda Coker, said they suspected that the actors had been kidnapped.
The statement read, “Two members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel aka (Agbogidi) were reportedly missing after their family members confirmed they didn’t come back from a film Location at Ozalla Town, Enugu state.
3. Insecurity: Don’t blackmail media, Gumi knocks FG
Controversial Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has condemned the Federal Government’s threat to sanction some media organisations over their reports on terrorism across the country.
Gumi also knocked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) for rewarding former service chiefs over failure to secure the country with “ambassadorial” appointments.
Rather than intimidating the media, he said the President should make his security chiefs sit up over their apparent failure in securing the country.
He said, “President Buhari should make his security Chiefs to be fully accountable and responsible for any failure and account for the billions of naira at their disposal.

4. Court rules against suit challenging Oborevwori as PDP Guber candidate
Justice Okon Abang of a federal High court in Warri, Delta state has ruled that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwuori was validly elected as the candidate of the party at the governorship primaries of the party in Asaba, Delta state.
A suit filed by a governorship aspirant of the party at the primaries Chief Novwe Ikie among other things challenged the processes that resulted in the election of Sheriff as the Guber candidate.
Justice Abang yesterday ruled that Hon Sheriff was validly nominated, adding that he won the primaries election.
“Chief Novwe Ikie one of the contestant for the governorship ticket of the PDP at the primaries went to the federal High court to challenge the process. And at the end the court ruled that Hon Sheriff was validly nominated and he won the primaries “, a party chieftain told the Vanguard..
5. Innocent lives lost to insecurity give us concern — CAN President, Okoh
The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) His Eminence Most Rev. Daniel Okoh, has expressed worry over the deteriorating security situation in the country.
He, however, stated that the apex Christian body was keen on a divine intervention in the country’s efforts to overcome its security challenges.
Okoh said this while fielding questions from journalists after the final activities marking the successful leadership transition in CAN held in Abuja on Friday
He said, “Insecurity is a common concern for all of us, but as Christians we will continue to remain confident in the fact that we still have the presence of God who is in charge and has an interest and rules in the affairs of men.
6. Police dismiss Dekit’s Mopol Inspector over extortion
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed one Mr. Richard Gele, the Police Inspector caught in a viral video dignifying and justifying extortion of members of the public and official corruption which trended from the 25th of July, 2022.
The Inspector, with AP/No.188547, who until his dismissal, was attached to Police Mobile Force 77 Squadron, Okene, Kogi State and deployed to the Itobe – Anyigba Road, for safety of road users and commuters, along the route, where the incident occurred.
“He therefore ceases to be a member of the Nigeria Police Force with immediate effect.
“The officer has been de-kitted and handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State, for further necessary action.

7. Atiku’s interview full of lies, says Wike
Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has described the recent interview granted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar on affairs of the party as a concoction of lies.
Wike, who spoke at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday, however, vowed to devote reasonable time after inaugurating his newly completed projects to respond to all the lies told by Atiku and his attack dogs.
The Governor said despite keeping quiet after the events that characterised the presidential primaries out of his love for the PDP, the attack dogs of Atiku were everywhere abusing and insulting him.
He named former Governors Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido and Maina Waziri as the attack dogs of Atiku saying he would respond to them “line by line and statement by statement”.
Wike noted that no right-thinking person and lover of the PDP would say that the statements made by Atiku while unveiling his vice-presidential candidate was fair.
8. Hajj 2002: 260 Kano pilgrims return from Saudi Arabia
A total of 260 pilgrims from Kano State, who took part in this year’s Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia returned to the country on Friday afternoon.
The pilgrims, who boarded AZMAN flight ZQ2349 arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, at about 02:41p.m.
The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Muhammed Abba-Danbatta, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday.
He said the pilgrims were obedient and law-abiding in the holy land.

9. Daniel Okoh: Buhari sends message to new CAN President
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday congratulated Archbishop Daniel Okoh, General Superintendent of Christ Holy Church (Odozi-Obodo), on his election as the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Buhari’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, the election of Okoh by the very important Christian body is a testament to his devotion to the church of God in the country and beyond, distinguished vocation as a Christian leader, and abiding commitment to promoting ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue.
While acknowledging the role CAN has played in fostering religious unity and harmony, Buhari believed that the incoming CAN president would continue to provide the needed leadership for the church, affirming the scriptural truth: ‘‘That they all may be one.’’ (John 17:21a)
10. Oyo: Police arrest suspected kidnappers of Alao-Akala’s supervisor, others
The Oyo State Police Command said that some gunmen who kidnapped Christopher Bakare, the supervisor of a farm belonging to the late former governor of the state, Adebayo Alao-Akala, and other residents of the state, have been arrested.
The command made this disclosure on Friday.
DAILY POST learnt that three cases of kidnapping have been reported in the state in the last two weeks.
It was gathered that Bakare was abducted from the farm of late Alao-Akala on Saturday, 16 July at Jabata in Surulere Local Government Area of the state.
A private hospital owner identified as Baba Rasheed was also abducted on Friday 22 July this year in the same local government area.
A hotelier and one of his staff were also kidnapped at Aba area in Ogbomoso town yesterday, Thursday, 28 July.
