1. EFCC declares pastor, wife wanted for alleged N2bn fraud

A couple, Onyinmiebi (Miebi Baraza) and Beatrice Bribena, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

In a statement, the EFCC declared the couple wanted for allegedly defrauding Nigerians to the tune of N2 billion.

The statement was signed by Head, Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren.

It read, “Bribena and Beatrice are both natives of Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

“Their last known address is No 163 Mbiama Yenagoa Road, Biogbolo, Bayelsa State.

2. Don’t allow terrorists infiltrate Ibadan communities, Olubadan tasks Ladoja, others

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has tasked the newly-elevated High Chiefs in Ibadanland to be security conscious and prevent the infiltration of their communities by terrorists and other criminals.

The Olubadan, who was represented by the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, said this
at the installation of the High Chiefs to their new offices in Ibadan on Friday.

Those elevated were former Governor Rashidi Ladoja from Osi Olubadan to Otun Olubadan; High Chief Eddy Oyewole from Ashipa Olubadan to Osi Olubadan; High Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi from Ekerin Olubadan to Ashipa Olubadan; High Chief Hamidu Salaudeen Ajibade from Ekarun Olubadan to Ekerin Olubadan; and Adebayo Akande from Abese Olubadan to Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland.

High Chief Ajibola said, “The High Chiefs who have just been promoted should be up to the task in discharging the responsibilities they have been saddled with. The High Chiefs oversee security and ensure peace and happiness of the people in their communities.

3. Lawan urges NASS workers to call off strike, embrace dialogue

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has urged the striking workers of the National Assembly to call off their industrial action and instead, embrace dialogue for the speedy resolution of the disputes.

Lawan in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ola Awoniyi, was said to have appealed at a meeting that he summoned to find a way out of the lingering issues between the workers and the management of the National Assembly.

Workers of the National Assembly under the aegis of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria had embarked on an indefinite strike since Monday to press home their demands for payment of some allowances.

Lawan said, “I want to urge you, whenever we disagree, let’s try to come and sit and talk about it because when we talk, we are able to find some common grounds and solutions. I am very happy that we have been able to deal with this.”

4. Police arrest 3 suspected car snatchers in Ebonyi

The Police Command in Ebonyi, on Friday, said its Crack Squad had arrested a three-man notorious armed robbery gang in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.

The command said that the gang members specialised in robbing people of their vehicles and other valuables at gunpoint.

Speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chris Anyanwu, said that two pump-action guns were recovered from the suspects.

He said that the crack squad of the command got a distress call from one Henry Ikpakaogo of Federal Low Cost Housing Estate Abakaliki, Ebonyi at about 07:30 p.m. on June 3.

“The caller cried that while returning from Enugu State in his Toyota 4Runner Jeep, a yellow coloured mini-bus carrying about six passengers blocked him at Okpoto in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

5. Enugu community seeks govt intervention on vacant throne crisis

Members of the Concerned Emudo Development Union— National (EDUN) Stakeholders Forum in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State have raised concern over possible breakdown of law and order in their community.

The Coordinator of the group, Mr Udeinya Ukegbu made the disclosure in Enugu while briefing newsmen on the security concerns in the community.

Ukegbu said that it had become necessary to speak out and seek government’s intervention following the succession crisis rocking Emudo Nenwe Community.

He said that the community had known no peace since the death of their traditional ruler several years ago, adding that the traditional stool had remained vacant.

6. Housewife docked for alleged visa fraud

A Kano Sharia Court on Friday ordered that a 32-year-old housewife, Ummi Hussain, be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged visa scam.

The police charged Hussain, who lives in Kofar yamma in Wudil local government area with alleged criminal breach of trust, cheating, conspiracy and misappropriation.

The Judge, Malam smai’l Muhammed-Ahmed ordered that Hussain be remanded pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution.

He directed security agencies to intensify efforts at ensuring that the Hussain’s alleged accomplice be apprehended before the next hearing

7. 2023 Census: NPC trains 150 officers, academia in Southeast

A total of 150 senior officers of the National Population Commission (NPC) and selected academia in the Southeast are currently undergoing training in Anambra ahead of the Trial Census in preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

The officers, including facilitators, trainees, Secretariat, Data Quality Managers, are expected to train no fewer than 1156 enumerators and other field functionaries in readiness for the exercise.

Declaring the training open on Friday in Awka, Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke said the exercise would access quality and usefulness of the created Enumeration Area maps, determine possible demographic and geographical changes and enumerators’ requisite educational qualification, among other factors.

Ezeoke who was represented by his Enugu State counterpart, Ejike Eze restated Commission’s determination to successfully conduct a Trial Census targeted at delivering a credible, reliable, acceptable and verifiable census.

8. Workers trapped as youths ground FCTA Secretariat

Some staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have been trapped as protesting FCT indigenes invaded the Secretariat premises to ground all activities.

The youths vowed to occupy the Minister’s office until he swears in Chairmen- elect of the Six Area Council in line with Thursday’s FCT High Court Order.

All gates leading to the secretariat have been shut with the angry protesters controllinh the entry and exit points including that of the FCT Ministers.

Confused staff trapped in their various offices have been asked by the protesters to forget about returning home to their family members.

The FCT Ministers and the Permanent Secretary were all not on seat at the time of the invasion.

9. Wike orders prosecution of Ameachi, Cole, others over sales of state assets

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to commence “diligent prosecution” of the illegal financial dealings of the former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state Tonye Cole, Sahara Energy and others over the sale of state assets.

Gov. Wike gave the directive on Friday during the swearing-in of three commissioners who were reappointed last week.

He said people want to find out what the state will do about the judicial panel of Inquiry set up by his administration to probe the sales of state assets to Sahara Energy.

He said “Attorney General, you’re at a critical period where people want to know what the State is going to do with the Judiciary Panel of Inquiry after the Supreme Court judgement on it.

10. Tinubu: Soyinka denies paying tribute to APC presidential flagbearer

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Friday dismissed claims that he paid tribute to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Soyinka disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘I did not pay tribute to Tinubu – Soyinka’, issued by his spokesman, Abiola Owoaje.

Reports had emerged entitled, ‘Prof Wole Soyinka’s tribute to Sen Asiwaju Tinubu’, supposedly written by Soyinka praising Tinubu on his political accomplishments, had gone viral on various WhatsApp platforms shortly after the former Lagos State governor emerged as APC’s presidential flag bearer on Wednesday.

However, Soyinka has come out to describe the trending post as the handiwork of indolent identity thieves whose preoccupation is to deceive the public in a bid to gain prominence.
