4. I’ll accept outcome of free and fair primaries — Tinubu

FRONTLINE President Aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pooh-poohed those he accused of misrepresenting his statement in Abeokuta on Thursday to pit him against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Noting that he has high regards for President Buhari, the former Lagos State Governor said he would not denigrate Buhari or the office he seeks to occupy.

He added that he would accept the outcome of free and fair presidential primaries whether he won or lost.

Tinubu while addressing APC delegates in Ogun reportedly said among others that he deployed his resources to make Buhari president in 20215, a comment that elicited sharp criticisms, yesterday.

5. APC Presidential primaries: Akpabio cautions delegates against electing wrong candidate

BARELY two days to the Presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and one of the presidential aspirants of the party, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, charged the party delegates across Nigeria not to elect a wrong candidate who can not match the candidate of the opposition party.

He gave this advice in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, while addressing 99 delegates across the 33 Local Government areas of the state.

Akpabio said such decision would not only affect the party but Nigeria as a whole.

According to him, the country is in dire need of a focus leadership that will reshape the economy and create jobs for the teeming youths.

6. Muslim-Muslim ticket: Nigeria bigger than any ambition, I acted in National Interest — Saraki tells Tinubu

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has stated that when he opposed the plan to foist a Muslim-Muslim presidency on Nigeria in 2014 he acted in the national interest and believed Nigeria was bigger than anybody’s ambition, including that of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Saraki, in a statement signed by the head of his Media Office, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in response to the speech by Tinubu in Abeokuta yesterday claiming that Saraki and others opposed his desire to be running mate to President Mohammadu Buhari in the 2015 elections, noted that he will oppose any plan that causes a religious crisis in a multi-religious country like Nigeria.

“When I and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 stood against having a Muslim-Muslim ticket, it was not a decision targeted at any individual or group but one taken in the national interest. Asiwaju knows this and he is just being mischievous by presenting this decision as something aimed at stopping his ambition.

“Let me make it clear that the decision to oppose the plans by some people to make APC present a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2015 was in the national interest and I will take the same stand today, tomorrow, and any other day. My stance is based on the fact that such a ticket is not good for the unity of the country and will further accentuate one of our fault lines.

6. I’ve high regard, respect for Buhari, says Tinubu

All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reaffirmed his utmost respect and regard for President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement he personally signed on Friday evening, Tinubu said he would never denigrate the President for any reason.

According to him: “We have entered the meat of primary season. Sensationalism and wilful inaccuracy tend to push aside truth during such moments. I make this statement so that truth and accuracy may have a chance. It is important that people truly know what I said and where I stand. Whatever view you have of me is within your right to make. But let it be based on truth and not on falsehood or reckless exaggeration.

“There have been gross misinterpretations in some sectors of the media regarding comments I made on Thursday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. To a degree, the erroneous interpretations may be somewhat innocent given that I spoke in Yoruba. Those who do not understand the nuances of this richly layered and subtly language may have inadvertently yet erroneously missed the true meaning of what I said while attempting to translate my statement. Instead of weighing what I said carefully, they translated so quickly and thus inaccurately in an attempt to meet media deadlines. Of course, there are also those who knew better but they conveyed these inaccuracies because the sensationalism suits their political purposes.
