1. NSCDC arrests fake currency syndicates

The Special Intelligence Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested two syndicates that specialise in the printing, sales and distribution of fake dollar notes.

This was contained in a statement signed by the corps spokesperson, Olusola Odumosu, on Friday.

According to the statement, one of the groups arrested, which comprised four male adults, was caught in possession of fake $64,800 and N475,000 notes, while fake notes of N1.5 million were also seized from the second group comprising five male adults.

2. Adeleke’s CSO deployed for ‘special duty’, not transferred — Osun police

The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, has said Mr Isaac Omoyele, the Chief Security Officer to the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has not been transferred from the state.

Opalola was reacting to the claim in some quarters that Omoyele was transferred based on a petition against his appointment as the governor’s CSO by some people.

The command spokesperson, during an interview with our correspondent on Friday, said Omoyele and four other officers from the command only went on a “special duty” in Abuja and would return after completing his assignment.

3. 40ft container falls, crushes SUV in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Friday evening said another 40-foot container had fallen at the Ago-Palace Way area of the state.

This incident makes it the fifth on Friday of containers falling in different parts of the state.

The PUNCH had reported earlier on Friday afternoon that three containers had fallen in the Ikeja, Ojuelegba and Mile 12 areas of the state.

4. APC summons lawmakers-elect over 10th NASS leadership

As part of its determined efforts to stave off the possibility of having a 10th National Assembly leadership that would be outside of its design, the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has begun moves to ensure the emergence of a party-sanctioned leadership.

Consequently, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party has summoned an emergency meeting of its Senators and House members-elect to develop a common template for the emergence of the new leadership.

The notice for the meeting which was sent out Friday night was titled “Invitation to all APC Senators-elect and Members of the House of Representatives-elect” and signed by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

5. Ogun LP denies endorsing Gov Abiodun for second term

The Labour Party, LP, in Ogun State, on Friday, reacted to news making the rounds that the Executives of the party in the state have endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun for a second term in office.

The party described the endorsement as dubious, atrocious and grievous.

Some LP leaders had endorsed the governor for a second term and said they would go into an alliance with the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

6. Seplat Energy CEO, Roger Brown, steps aside

Seplat Energy Plc says its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Roger Brown, has stepped aside from running the company for a period of seven days.

The company said in a corporate disclosure made available to Nigerian Exchange Ltd.,(NGX) and signed by its board Chairman, Mr Basil Omiyi, on Friday.

The company said that the decision followed an ex-parte Interim Order handed down by the Hon Justice C. J. Aneke of the Federal High Court, Lagos, Nigeria, which restrained Brown for the period of time mentioned above.

7. Tinubu condoles family, APC over welfare officer’s death

The President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condoled the family and colleagues of the National Welfare Officer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Friday Nwosu, who died on Thursday in Abuja.

Nwosu was until his death a leader of the party in Abia State and a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

In a statement by his media aide, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz on Friday, the President-elect said Nwosu’s death had left a gaping hole in the party.

“I received with shock and grief the news of the sudden death of Chief Nwosu. He was a dedicated party man and a leader who paid his dues for the success of the party.

8. Omo-Agege denies plans to reverse teachers retirement age in Delta

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the Delta All Progressive Congress (APC) Governorship candidate has denied rumour that he plans to reverse the Harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers in the state.

Omo-Agege, also the Deputy President of the Senate, said this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sunny Areh on Friday in Warri.

He described the rumour as the handiwork of the Peoples Demicratic Party (PDP), urging residents to ignore it and vote for him in the March 18 Governorship Election.

Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central at the National Assembly, said that the Harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers was passed by the national assembly in January 2021 under his watch as Deputy President of the Senate.

The Presidential Transition Council has commenced preparations ahead of the transfer of power by President Muhammadu Buhari to his successor

The President-elect is Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, whose victory is being challenged by Labour Party’s Peter Obi and Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar.

On Friday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Kana said the council would make governance comfortable for the incoming president.

10. LaLiga: Barcelona face corruption charges over referee payments scandal

Prosecutors in Spain have confirmed that they have filed corruption charges against Barcelona and two of the LaLiga club’s ex-presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The charges are related to payments made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice president of the refereeing committee.

Negreira’s company was paid almost €7million from Barca from 2001 to 2018.

They stand accused of corruption in sport, corruption in business, false administration and the falsification of commercial documents.
