1. NiDCOM evacuates 2,246 Nigerians from Sudan

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission says a total of 2,246 Nigerians have so far been evacuated from Sudan.

The Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM, Mr Abdur-Rahman Balogun, stated this on Friday in Abuja while giving updates on the Federal Government’s evacuation efforts since May 3.

He said on May 3, 94 evacuees, comprising 78 males and 16 females, boarded NAF C130 plane, while 274 boarded Air Peace plane from Aswan Airport, Egypt.

2. Ex-aviation minister mourns mother, says she battled cancer for 15 years

A former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has described the passing of his mother as a loss irreplaceable.

The ex-minister made the remark during the burial of the Chidoka matriach, late Deaconess Nneka Chidoka (Nee Nzelu), who died at the age of 75 years.

Speaking at her funeral, the former minister recalled how she suffered cancer – a terminal disease-, for 15 years.

According to him, if she hadn’t been diagnosed early, the disease would have killed her much earlier, under a five-year-period of scourge.

3. Jamie Foxx’s health not deteriorating, returns to work soon – Daughter

Corinne, the daughter of popular American actor, Jamie Foxx has refuted claims that her father is critical sick.

The actor, who was hospitalised last month, raised concerns of many fans, especially as his family members kept the exact status of his health a secret.

Expectedly, a report went viral on Friday, suggesting that Jamie’s family members were preparing for the worst as his condition had turned critical.

However, Foxx’s daughter has come out to refute the reports, stating that the 55-year-old returned home from the hospital weeks ago and is in good health.

4. Bandits collect N6.5m to release 12 of 85 abductees in Zamfara – Local

Bandits have released the remaining 12 kidnapped victims of Wanzamai village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

They killed one of the kidnapped victims who was the oldest person among them.

An indigene of the area said the bandits released the remaining 12 kidnapped victims and killed one on Wednesday after collecting another sum of 500,000 from the locals.

His words, “The remaining 12 kidnapped victims came back home last Wednesday night while the oldest person among them called Samaila Garba did not come back”.

5. 10th NASS: APC discriminating against North Central – Gagdi

Front line aspirant for the Speaker of the 10th Assembly has said that it will not be fair to discriminate against the north central geo-political in the presiding offices of the national assembly.

Gadgi, the outgoing Chairman of the House Committee on Navy who also represents Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State in a statement made available to Journalists in Abuja Friday night said it will not be fair to exclude the zone despite the huge number of votes it gave to the APC in the last general elections.

He said: “The North-Central region is critical to the electoral coalition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and we will not be ignored. What is happening now is the beginning of a negative trail of extracting votes for the region but neglecting us when it comes to issues of political equity. If we accept it, this will not be the end but the beginning.

6. Why Tinubu’s govt will not allow turbulent parliament – Shettima

Provoked by the growing protests that had greeted the nomination of preferred choices of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the presiding officers of the incoming 10th National Assembly, the Vice President-Elect, Senator Kashim Shetima has said that the government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not allow a rancorous assembly.

Shetima who met with the APC speaker and deputy speaker designate in the persons of Hon. Tajudeen Abbas from Kaduna State (North West) and Benjamin Kalu from Abia State (South East) at the instance of the Joint Task Group of the 10th assembly with over 100 members-elect across party lines said that allowing a turbulent parliament will affect the performance of the executive.

He recalled that former Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari faced the challenge at s point in their administration, stress that the consequences were loathsome.
