PUNCH NEWSPAPER

1. Police accused of disrupting PDP campaign in Nasarawa

The Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential and governorship campaigns in Nasarawa state, Labaran Maku, has accused the state police command and Governor Abdullahi Sule of attempting to disrupt the party’s campaign slated for November 28, 2022 in the Toto Local Government Area of the state.

Maku, a former Minister of Information, expressed dismay that after the PDP had informed the police of the party’s plan to commence its campaign on the said date, Sule allegedly planned with the police to fix the All Progressives Congress campaign on the same day and in the same LGA.

The campaign DG, who spoke to journalists during a press briefing in Karu LGA on Friday, however, said because the PDP had agreed to shift the first campaign to November 29, 2022.

Maku said, “It is strange that some hours to the party’s campaign rally, the police commissioner told us that he is not aware that we are holding our rally in Toto LGA, therefore, we do not have the permission.

3. Qatar out of W’Cup after Dutch held Ecuador

Cody Gakpo scored again at the World Cup but the Netherlands missed the chance to secure a place in the last 16 on Friday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a battling Ecuador, a result which eliminated host nation Qatar.

Gakpo, the gangly PSV Eindhoven forward who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, put the Netherlands in front with a superb strike in the sixth minute at the Khalifa International Stadium.

Yet, with a large and vociferous support behind them, Ecuador fought back with such ferocity that the Dutch were rattled, and they deserved the equaliser when it came through Enner Valencia four minutes after half-time.

It was Ecuador captain Valencia’s third goal of the World Cup already after his brace in his country’s opening win over Qatar.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta on Friday, declared the purported governorship re- run primary election organized by a governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, Otunba Jimi Adebisi Lawal to be illegal, unconstitutional and void.

The suit filed by the People’s Democratic Party and Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu with number FHC/AB/CS/220/2022 against Mr. Jimi Adebisi Lawal and others came after Mr. Jimi Lawal organized a fake rerun primary on 17th October in clear disobedience to the party’s guidelines and provision of the 2022 electoral act.

Residents of Nyanya, whose properties were demolished, are calling on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Bello, to probe the Abuja Development Control over illegal demolition.
