1. No Lagos4Lagos member defected to APC –Jandor
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, aka Jandor, has debunked claims that 5000 members of the Jandor Lagos4Lagos Movement defected to the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Adediran made the statement during a press briefing in the Ikeja area of the state on Friday.
He described the claim by the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, alongside other stakeholders of the APC, that he received some defectors from his (Jandor’s) camp on Thursday as a ploy to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
Adediran said, “This briefing was called for me to tell the people of Lagos State that in Lagos4Lagos, we haven’t lost any of our members as a result of what was staged yesterday
2. Fashola, Ogbe to lead Tinubu’s door-to-door campaign
Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; senator representing Nasarawa North senatorial district, Senator Tanko Al-Makura and former Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbe, have been appointed to head separate directorates in the newly constituted Tinubu-Shettima Independent Campaign Council.
The ICC was established to complement the Presidential Campaign Council, with a special focus on grassroots campaign and door-to-door mobilisation of electorates.
This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director Media and Publicity Committee of ICC, Ntufam Hilliard Eta.
Eta said the independent campaign council would also focus on voters’ sensitisation and outreach meetings amongst others.
3. Customs intercept smuggled clothes, cream, others worth N690m
The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘B’ intercepted 758 bales and sacks of smuggled used clothing and body cream with duty paid value of N690.8 million within the zone.
The NCS Comptroller, Albashir Hamisu, taking newsmen round the items in Kaduna State on Friday, said that the seized items include 473 cartons of foreign pharmaceutical products.
He said, ”The operations unit has recorded a lot of successes. We recorded 132 seizures.
”Other items seized are 533 cartons of foreign pasta, macaroni, and 749 bags of foreign parboiled rice.”

4. Detention of Kanu against court orders freeing him assault to Igbo — Ugochinyere
CANDIDATE of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, on Friday, decried the continued detention of the leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, despite three different court orders.
It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division had on October 13,2022, delivered judgement ordering the release of Kanu.
The Federal High Court, Umuahia, also ordered Kanu’s release and ordered the Federal Government to return him to Kenya where he was illegally extradited.
In a similar circumstance,a High Court in Abia State had also given a judgment in favour of the IPOB leader.
5. FG reiterates efforts on internet safety policies for children
AS part of ongoing efforts to ensure and institutionalize safer internet usage amongst children across Nigeria, the Federal Government, FG, has said that it remains committed towards the introduction of digital policies.
The Director of New Media and Information Security, National Communication Commission, NCC, Dr. Haru Alhassan, stated this at a Webrangers Summit, themed: ‘Raising Online Safety Super Heroes’, organised by Public and Private Development Centre, PPDC, in Abuja.
Web Rangers which is an initiative of Google was ideated to develop digital literacy programmes, that allows young people to gain critical skills and knowledge around online safety, with which they use to create innovative campaigns that promote safe internet usage and digital rights across the globe.
6. Abuja terror alert: DSS confirms raid on Trademore Estate
The Department of State Services has confirmed the raid on Trademore Estate in Abuja.
Spokesman for the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya, who confirmed the raid, noted that there was no joint operation with foreign military.
In a statement obtained by Vanguard, Afunanya said: “It is true that an operation was carried out by DSS operatives and the Nigerian military but no foreign military personnel was involved.

7. 2023: INEC moves to curb election violence in Ebonyi
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is committed to ensuring a violence-free election in parts of Ebonyi in the 2023 polls.
Dr Joseph Chukwu, the Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ebonyi, stated this during an interactive meeting with the members of the Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council on Friday in Abakaliki.
According to the REC, the strategic meeting was aimed at providing a platform to enable the electoral body and the Ebonyi Royal Fathers to exchange ideas on the best ways to stem violence before, during and after the elections.
He said: “Our Royal Fathers, you will agree with me that the social and conventional media have been inundated with reported cases of violence amongst members of the various political parties since the commencement of campaigns for the 2023 general elections.
8. Neymar cleared of charges over transfer to Barcelona
PSG and Brazil forward Neymar has been cleared of all charges of fraud and corruption relating to his transfer from Santos to Barcelonan in 2013.
Neymar missed Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 win at Ajaccio on Ligue 1 last Friday as proceedings against him commenced at a court in Spain.
The 30-year-old joined Barca from Santos for €17.1 million back in 2013, and Brazilian investment firm DIS were paid €6.8m at the time due to owning 40 per cent of the rights to Neymar.
But DIS claimed it lost out on its rightful cut of the transfer fee because its value was understated. They sought a €10m payment and a two-year prison term for Neymar.
But Spanish prosecutor Luis Garcia Canton gave them short shrift. “There is not the slightest hint of crime,” he said at the trial in Barcelona before asking the judge for the “acquittal of all defendants.”

9. 19 inmates regain freedom on orders of Niger CJ
Nineteen inmates awaiting trial at the Old Minna Correctional Centre have regained freedom on the orders of Niger State Chief Judge, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik in the state.
The CJ ordered for their summary trial and have their convictions backdated to the years they have been remanded in the Custodial Centre in the state.
The move was part of her efforts to decongest the correctional center during her two day maiden visit in Minna.
According to her, “The aim of my visit is to review some inmate cases who have been incarcerated in the Custodial Centre for the past years without being taken to court by the Police Legal Unit and those for capital offences of armed robbery, culpable homicide, among other offences.
10. 2023: Imo won’t survive your second coming – PDP tells Uzodinma
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, on Friday, declared that the state cannot survive Senator Hope Uzodinma’s second term in office.
The opposition said it would amount to reinforcing failure and extending the massive treasury looting and outrageous bloodshed in Imo if the Governor Uzodinma, is not booted out of power at the polls in November 2023.
PDP in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, and made available to DAILY POST in Owerri, said its finds it totally shameful and unacceptable that among the 36 states in the country, Imo State is presently at the lowest rung of the ladder as far as viability index is concerned.
The statement reads, “Our Party is also greatly pained that in the 2022 “State of States Report” recently published by a reputable civic organization, BudgIT, Imo has been classified as the worst State in the Southeast in terms of fiscal performance, and it is also among the ten worst States in Nigeria.
