1. Ayu afraid to deny Wike’s corruption allegation – Keyamo
The Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, on Friday knocked the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, whom he said had ‘shamelessly’ dodged the corruption allegation levelled against him by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Keyamo’s scathing comment was a response to earlier statement made by Spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Dino Melaye, that the ruling APC is not ready for election.
Wike had on September 23 regaled Nigerians with tale of corruption within the PDP when he challenged Ayu to explain the origin of the crisis in the party.
He had stated, “Ayu is corrupt. Quote me. I am a lawyer and I am the governor of Rivers State. Ayu collected N1 billion in Lagos. He told one of the PDP presidential aspirants before the primary that the governors were not ready to fund the party.
2. Verify candidates’ achievements before voting, CSO advises Nigerians
Nigerians should verify claims made by presidential candidates on their past achievements in office before voting for them during the 2023 general elections, a human society prganisation under the aegis of Collective Action Movement for Democratic Values and Environmental has advised.
The organisation also described the signing of the Electoral Act 2022 as the best legacy of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
The chairman of CAMDVES, Emmanuel Akuba, stated in an interview with journalists in Abuja shortly after been presented an award of excellence by the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students.
According to him, the 2023 elections would not be business as usual, as no politician would be able to rig the forthcoming general election with the new Electoral Act in place.
3. Illegal pipeline: CDS, Kyari visit Delta, begin investigation
The Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd., Mele Kyari, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor on Friday declared that an extensive investigation will be conducted into the newly discovered illegal pipeline.
The PUNCH reports that the illegal pipeline is attached by yet-to-be-identified culprits to the Trans Escravos pipeline at Yokre Flow Station in Ogulagha oil field of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
This, according to them, is with a view to identifying the perpetrators and sanctioning them according to the provisions of the law.
They claimed preliminary investigation showed that the illegal pipeline led to an illegal loading point in the creeks where large quantities of crude oil are allegedly being diverted and stolen.

4. Folasade Ogunsola emerges as UNILAG’s first female VC
Professor Folasade Ogunsola was on Friday night chosen as the 13th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG by the selection committee of the institution.
The development meant that Ogunsola, who is expected to take over from the outgoing VC, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, next month, would be the first female to occupy the position in the 60-year-old institution.
Ogunsola, the daughter of the late eminent geographer, Prof. Akin Mabogunje, has served the university in various capacities.
5. We’ll tap our seabed resources via technology – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria has strategic mineral resources in its seabed, which will be exploited through adequate deployment of technology.
The president stated this when he hosted Mr Michael Lodge, Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority, in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday.
Lodge is in Abuja to attend a workshop on Africa Deep Sea Resources in Abuja.
Buhari said resources would be deployed, and studies done, believing it would be worth the while.

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, has said it has moved on from the internal wrangling within the party.
Spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, Mr. Daniel Bwala, said this in an interview he granted to Arise Television, on Friday.
Bwala explained that the National Working Committee as well as the National Executive Committee of the party have held meeting where decisions were taken and a vote of confidence passed on the Sen. Iyiochia Ayu-led NWC and that those saddled with the responsibility of meeting with WIke have been doing so.
He said, “The PDP has moved on. We’ve released the list of our campaign council, we have inaugurated them, we have participated in the signing of the peace accord, we have in fact, commenced our campaign.

7. Tinubu-Shettima ticket most viable choice –Support group
A support group, the Tinubu for President Action Group (T4PAG), has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket as the only viable choice for Nigerians.
It also confirmed the appointment of Olajumoke Ogunyemi as its Coordinator for Lagos State.
Chairman and Convener of the T4PAG, Prince ‘Lanre Adegun, while speaking to journalists after the inauguration of the Lagos State chapter executives, said the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu/Senator Kashim Shettima ticket is the only marketable pair for the country, going by their individual track records.
According to Adegun, if Nigerians indeed wish the country to come out of the woods, overcome insecurity, insurgency, poverty and marginalization, amongst other prevailing complications, the only choice to elect as president in the next elections is Asiwaju Tinubu.
8. Student campaigns against gender-based violence
A student at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, Clarion Olusegun, has called for a stop to violence against women, stating that females should be treated with care.
Olusegun, through the Female Speaks Initiative(FSI) founded by her, is determined to build and strengthen the female gender globally and find a solution to violence against girls/women.
She spoke at a seminar in Lagos organised by FSI and a non governmental organisation, Female and More(FAM).

9. Lagos: Nigerians slam police for covering faces of officers who extorted ‘Yahoo boy’
The Lagos State Police Command is under fire for concealing the faces of policemen arrested for extortion.
On Thursday, a youth narrated how the officers stopped him and called him a ‘Yahoo boy’, the Nigerian slang for internet fraudster.
In a lengthy Twitter thread, the victim, Oluwagbadura, recalled how he was accosted at Soloki in Aguda, Surulere.
Though the officers did not find anything on him, they seized his phone and company laptop.
10. Osun: Oyetola restores standard designations in LG system
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has approved the re-adoption of standard designations for career officers in the local government system.
The approval means that the Head of Local Government Administration is the most senior career officer in the Local Government system, while Heads of Department are now designated as directors.
This was contained in a statement signed by the state’s Head of Service, Oyebade Olowogboyega, who added that a circular had been issued to that effect to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the Local Government Service Commission, for prompt implementation.
According to him: “In consonance with the new Osun State Local Government Law 2022, passed by the House of Assembly and signed into law by the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, adopting Presidential system of Government in the Local Government Councils in Osun State, Mr Governor has equally approved the re-adoption of the position of Head of Local Government Administration as the most senior career officer in the Local Government system and Directors as Heads of Department in the Local Government system.
