1. NCAA lifts Azman airline’s suspension

Nigerian domestic airline, Azman Air, has resumed operations following its license renewal with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.

The airline renewed its Air Transport License after its operation was suspended, Thursday, by the NCAA following the expiration of its document, including nonpayment of legacy debt.

A document confirming the renewal of Azman Air license read, “NCAA/ATR1/ATL118 is valid for a five-year period from 2022 through 2027 before another renewal is expected.”

It was gathered that the airline also submitted its tax and security clearance forms to the NCAA and signed a Memorandum of Understanding of N50 million monthly to repay its legacy debt.

2. Police confirm gunmen attack on Bauchi gov’s aide

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked the Senior Special Assistant on Christian Religious Affairs to Bauchi State governor, Zakka Luka Magaji.

Confirming the attack through the command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakili, said the gunmen numbering about seven had stormed the residence of the victim in Birshin, a community in the state.

He added that the command received a distress call at exactly 12:13 pm on Friday that the house of the Governor’s aide was attacked by some armed men.

Wakili continued, “On the receipt of the distress call, the Commissioner of Police directed the DPO E-division to act immediately. The DPO led his team with other tactical Commanders such as RRS B-division, for a quick intervention forcing the armed men to flee into the bush around.

3. NASS renovation: Uncertainty trails Buhari’s 2023 budget presentation

The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has expressed uncertainty over the physical presence of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the National Assembly complex for the presentation of the proposed N19.76 trillion 2023 budget to a joint session of both chambers next month due to ongoing renovation of the chambers of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Lawan made this known during the inspection of room 022 being put in shape as the temporary chamber for the Senate on resumption, Tuesday, next week, after its six weeks annual leave which started in July.

Lawan, while addressing journalists, said the National Assembly was expecting the President to present the 2023 budget hopefully in the first week of October, but the renovation work going on was creating the challenge of where to host the number one citizen.
Lawan said, “The Green Chamber of the House of Representatives normally used for such important events is also being renovated, calling for urgent action from the leadership of both chambers on resumption, on how to address the challenge. Although, it might not take place here. That will be one of the issues we would tackle once we resume.”

He disclosed that one of the urgent legislative assignments that would be carried out by the Senate on resumption next week would be the confirmation of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.

4. Court admits Umo Eno’s certificates, adjourns case Sep 20

A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital has admitted certified true copies of 1981 and 1983 West African Examinations Council certificates of the governorship candidate 0f the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Pastor Umo Eno.

This came as Pastor Eno who is the second defendant in the ongoing certificate forgery case leveled against him by aggrieved PDP governorship aspirant, Mr. Akan Okon opened his defence on Thursday.

At the resumed hearing of the matter on Thursday, a Senior Assistant Registrar with West African Examinations Council, Uyo Mr. Noble Ihejirika, who is one of the three defence witnesses, tendered the certified true copies of the certificates.

Ihejirika was led in evidence by one of the Counsels to the first and second defendants, Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko (SAN) as the Defence Witness

5. Two cheats death in Lagos as car tumbles off Otedola Bridge

At least two occupants in a lone accident on Friday, narrowly escaped death when their car skidded off Otedola Bridge along Lagos Ibadan Expressway in ward Berger area.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, who confirmed the incident, said there was no loss of lives.

The victims however, sustained different degree of injuries and were.later taken to hospital for treatment

According eyewitness, the accident occurred in the morning on Friday. The car was badly smashed due to the impact of the fall.

6. EFCC arrests 5 suspects with fake $113,400

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested five suspects for alleged currency counterfeiting, totalling $113,400 in Abuja.

A statement by the Spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren gave the names of the suspects as Sule Sani, Abba Sulaiman, Abraham Amengwa James, Haruna Nahum Rabiu and Samson  Koadam Paul.

The suspect, according to the statement, was arrested in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja following actionable intelligence available to the anti-graft agency.

The statement said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

7. Vietnamese jailed for trafficking in pangolin scales

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos Friday convicted a Vietnamese man Nguyen Huy of trafficking 200 kilogrammes of pangolin scales.

Justice Daniel Osiagor sentenced Huy to three months imprisonment on each of two counts preferred against him by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

The court ordered that the sentence should run concurrently and commence from May 9, 2022, when Huy was arrested in Lagos.

8. I can’t tell those that love or hate me – Asake

9. NIHSA issues alerts states, LGs over impending flood

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has tasked states and local government councils across the federation to intensify and step up efforts to avert flood related disasters in their domains as the nation is now in the peak of flooding season.

Clement Nze, the Director General of NIHSA, in a statement issued on Friday, maintains that the flooding situation still persists as Rivers Niger and Benue system have continued to build up.

The Hydrological Agency reminded Nigerians that the country is at the lowest point of River Niger Basin, meaning that once the upper catchment of the Basin gets flooded, Nigeria should be prepared to experience flooding.

It added that, “As at Friday, 16th September, 2022, the flow of River Niger at Niamey, Niger Republic, upstream of Nigeria, is within the normal limits”.

10. Insecurity: Arewa youths advise FG to engage experts, berate minister over “false comment”

The Arewa Youth Vanguard has advised the Federal Government to engage the services of security experts if it must sustain and eventually win the ongoing war against banditry and other forms of insecurity in the country.

The advice was given by Arewa Youth Vanguard, which also berated the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, for not telling Nigerians the truth about the security situation of the country, especially the ongoing fight against insecurity in the Northern part.

The group declared that the claim by the Minister of information is not only far from reality but also a mockery on the Nigerian populace which deserves much more than what it is being fed with.

The group, however, lend its support to a security expert, Mr. Adejare Adegbenro whom it described as a well versed person in decimating terrorism.
