1. Tinubu’s govt will favour Christians with appointments – Group

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, would appoint Christians to key positions of authority in his cabinet if elected Nigeria’s next President in 2023.

The assurance, which was given by the Asiwaju Ahmed Bola-Shettima Presidential Support Group came amidst controversies that had trailed the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC despite the national outcry.

The Director-General of AABOS, Abdulsalami Iyaji, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, gave the assurance during a press conference, Friday evening, in Abuja.

According to him, the move would douse the fears and tension raised in many quarters by those opposed to Tinubu’s choice of Senator Kashim Shettima, a Muslim, as running mate.

2. Army intercepts N10m drugs in Ogun, rejects bribe

Troops of the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, have intercepted 792 parcels of drugs suspected to be Cannabis Sativa worth N10 million along the Ilaro-Benin Republic border.

The acting Deputy Director of the Army division, Major Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Osoba stated that the parcels of illicit drugs were concealed in a truck coming from the Volta Region of Ghana, to be delivered to a drug syndicate based in Lagos that was presently on the run, adding that the troops rejected the bribe offered by the suspected drug syndicates.

He said, “Troops of the 81 Division have foiled an attempt to smuggle 792 parcels of illicit drugs suspected to be Cannabis Sativa into Ogun State at a checkpoint along the Ilaro-Benin Republic border following an intelligence-driven operation.

3. Funding ways to enjoy waterway potential – Inland authority

The National Inland Waterways Authority has pointed out infrastructural development and proper funding as ways to make the nation’s inland waterways attractive.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, NIWA, Dr. George Muoghalu, said this in Port-Harcourt on Friday when he hosted the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, who was on a facility tour and the inauguration of two new boats at the state area office of the agency.

He also said there was a need for regulatory framework aimed at actualising these benefits.

4. Outrage greets ranking of Nigeria as
2nd most terrorized country

OUTRAGE, Friday, greeted the ranking of Nigeria as the second most terrorized and attacked country in the world after Iraq by the global Terrorism Research/ Analysis Organisation.

Groups and eminent Nigerians, who spoke on the ranking lamented the dangerous bent insecurity has taken and tasked the government on decisive action.

Those who spoke include the Afenifere; Ohanaeze Ndigbo; Middle Belt Forum, MBF; Pan NigerDelta Forum, PANDEF, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF; the Labour Party, LP; and Chief Akin Osuntokun.

5. How adoption of Presidential system of democracy derailed Nigeria – Edebiri

A nationalist and the Esogban of Benin, Chief David Edebiri Friday said Nigeria derailed from the part of de development when in 1979, the leaders adopted the American Presidential System of government which he said has not been practised as it should be.

The Elder statesman stated this when he unveiled two of his latest books titled “Tripod of Life: Essence of Benin Tradition and Culture” and “The life and Times of Iyase N’Ohenmwen” to mark his 93rd birthday.

He said those who fought for Nigeria’s independence did not fight for that based on selfish interest  but rather for the love of the country.

6. Insecurity confined to N/East during PDP, now it’s all over Nigeria – Makarfi

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has said that the insecurity bedeviling Nigeria was confined to the Northeast when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power but it has escalated to all parts of Nigeria under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Makarfi , also a former Chairman of the PDP, assured Nigerians that the PDP will restore sanity in Nigeria if it comes to power in 2023.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa on Friday, Makarfi appealed to Nigerians to give PDP the chance in 2023 so as to rectify anomalies.

He observed that people’s living standard could hardly be enhanced when virtually everything they needed was been imported into the country.

7. Movie makers tasked to promote morality, indigenous culture

Members of the Indigenous Movie Makers Association (IMMAN) have been tasked to use their talents to promote morality and indIgenous culture.

Former Lagos Commissioner of Information Kehinde Bemigbetan stated this at the Inauguration of the new executives of IMMAN.

Members of IMMAN, according to Bamigbetan, are like language protectors, whose platforms can be used to showcase local culture as well as the immense resources of various languages to communicate to us is a good one.

“Their coming together is in itself a major step forward because it shows that there is a future for our languages. Indigenous production of media has competed effectively with English production,” he said.

8. Cleric arrested for allegedly defiling, impregnating 12-year-old

A 48 – year-old Pastor of The Light House Gospel Church Oluwo, Owode Egba in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State, Pastor Michael Abiodun, has been arrested by Police detectives for allegedly defiling and impregnating a -12 -year old member of his church

It was learnt that the victim’s mother joined the church as a result of perceived spiritual problems, which she claimed led to the death of two of her daughters.

She joined the church to seek deliverance and avert further loss of children.

9. Ganduje inducts new Kano commissioners, assigns ministries

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, sworn in new commissioners on Friday.

The ceremony was held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kofar Mata.

Ganduje said their appointment was based on integrity, antecedents, and told them not to betray his confidence.

10. APC ward leaders, supporters in Sokoto join PDP

Some All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains in Sokoto have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

PDP State Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal made the announcement in a statement on Friday.

The defectors were APC Ward leaders of Dingyadi-Badawa in Bodinga Local Government Area.

They include the Ward Secretary, Ummarun Hassan and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Barno Akamawa.
