1. Rivers APC gov candidate, Cole, decries arrest of his lawyers
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has decried the arrest of three of his lawyers, filing proceedings at the election petition tribunal to challenge the March 18 Governorship election.
Cole alleged that five support staff of the party were also arrested by the operatives.
It was gathered that the lawyers, attached to the chambers of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Tuduru Ede, were arrested on Friday night, at a hotel where they lodged in Port Harcourt.
The arrest came 48-hours after Cole led the party executive to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission to protest its refusal to release Certified True Copies of documents used during the election, which would aid the party to proceed to the tribunal.
2. Ensure credible census, Ondo monarch urges NPC
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has urged the National Population Commission to conduct a credible and internationally acceptable population and housing census.
Aladetoyinbo made the call while receiving local government coordinators of the NPC in Ondo State who came to brief him of their preparedness ahead of the exercise scheduled for May nationwide.
Oba Aladelusi, who is Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, doubted the credibility of the previous exercise, saying that there must be accurate and credible data for national planning.
“We now have a very good opportunity to right the wrong of the past and ensure that all the data that will be collected will be realistic, reliable and fit for national planning and development.
3. Iran arrests women allegedly attacked for not wearing hijab
Iranian authorities ordered the arrest of two women, the judiciary said Saturday, after a viral video appeared to show them being attacked by a man for not wearing the hijab.
Video footage widely shared on social media in Iran appeared to show the two female customers, who were not wearing the mandatory hijab or headscarf, in a shop being assaulted by a man after a verbal altercation.
The footage shows the man pouring a bucket of what appears to be yoghurt on the two women’s heads before he is confronted by the shopkeeper.
Authorities issued an arrest warrant against the man “on charges of committing an insulting act and disturbance of order”, the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported.

4. APC drags INEC, NNPP to court over Kano governorship election results
The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has directed its legal team to seek redress over the results and declaration of New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) governorship candidate and governor-elect, Abba Yusuf, as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election in Kano.
The party’s spokesperson, Ahmed Aruwa, disclosed this on Saturday.
According to him, the declaration exercise is in violation of the laid down electoral laws.
He said, “The declaration of the winner of the elections as announced by INEC contravenes the provisions of the laws regulating the overall conduct of the elections.
5. FG approves amendment of 2022/2023 deep offshore oil block bid round
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the amendment of the 2022/2023 Deep Offshore oil block mini-bid process to accommodate concerns raised by potential local and international investors.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) stated in Abuja on Saturday that the amendments would address concerns over the terminal date of the current administration to the closure of the bid schedule.
Chief Executive of the NUPRC, Mr Gbenga Komolafe, said in the statement that the amendments would also boost confidence in the transparency and continuity of the process.
Komolafe said following the approval by the president, the NUPRC had extended the deadline for the submission of bids to May 19.
6. IPOB invitation: Igbo youths demand release of arrested Eze Igbo in Lagos
Igbo youths under the aegis of Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, have demanded the immediate release of Eze Igbo in Ajao Estate in Lagos, Eze Fredrick Nwajagu, arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, for allegedly threatening to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to help protect Ndigbo living in Lagos and their property against attacks by hoodlums.
The monarch who made the threat in a viral video was Saturday morning, quizzed by DSS operatives.
In a swift reaction, COSEYL, in a statement signed by its President General, Goodluck Ibem, described Nwajagu’s arrest as an insult and affront to the entire Igbo nation.

7. Yoruba monarchs don’t recognise Adebanjo’s Afenifere, says Olugbon
The Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, has berated the acting leader of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, for rejecting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the president-elect.
He said Yoruba monarchs recognise only Pa Reuben Fasoranti as the authentic leader of Afenifere, not Adebanjo.
The monarch stated this while featuring on Southwest Political Circuit, a programme on Fresh 105.9FM, Ibadan on Saturday.
Adebanjo recently claimed that Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) won the election and not Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress ((APC) who was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
8. DSS mum over arrest of Lagos Eze Ndigbo, ‘Obidient’ passenger
The Department of State Services (DSS) has kept mum over the reported arrest of Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos State, Frank Nwajugu.
Nwajugu was reported to have been arrested in a hotel in Lagos on Saturday morning by by the DSS working with the Police.
The arrest, it was believed, was in relation to a recent video where claimed he was going to invite IPOB to secure South Easterners and their property in Lagos State.
The secret police was also quiet over the arrest of a unruly passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Abuja to Lagos at the Abuja airport.

9. Tinubu: Don’t criticise 2023 presidential election – APC stalwarts
Raji Ahmed and Kingsley Olawale, two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have blasted some Nigerians for criticising the voting procedure that helped Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC candidate to win the 2023 presidential election.
The pair, who are associates of the former Lagos Governor and President-elect, Tinubu and made this known in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.
Their reaction is coming following the pro-Tinubu group/APC supporters solidarity March which held in Abuja on Tuesday, March 28.
10. APC expels national official in Bauchi over alleged anti-party activities
The Gamawa Local Government chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State on Saturday expelled an ex-officio of the party, Alhaji Sirajo Dada, over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision to expel the national officer of the ruling party was taken at an emergency meeting of the executive council of the party in the local government area.
Announcing Dada’s expulsion from the party, APC chairman in Gamawa LGA, Ahmed Saleh Super, said that the party could not fold its arms and condone acts of indolence, indiscipline and betrayal from its members no matter how highly-placed in society.
