1. FG threatens to sanction CCECC over rail project

The Federal Government has threatened to sanction a Chinese construction firm, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, over failure to meet up with the contract of providing 85 per cent of rail project cost.

The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, made this known on Saturday in Lagos during the inspection of the Lekki Deep Seaport.

According to Sambo, the projects are the Kano-Kaduna and the Maiduguri-Port Harcourt rail lines.

The minister said he gave the construction firm till October 30th to comply.

“The CCECC has not brought anything to the table, I gave them a deadline which is Oct. 30, if I don’t get that money on the ground, I know what to advise Mr President to do,” he said.

Sambo who expressed satisfaction with the Lekki Deep Seaport project, noted that initiatives were on ground to ensure the smooth evacuation of cargo at the port.

He said that in the meantime, the road was being expanded, adding that the government was looking into it, and for the medium-term, barges would take care of it.

2. Edo: Gunmen abduct female footballers, demand N30m ransom

Players and officials of grassroots female football team have been reportedly abducted by gunmen in Uronigbe, a border community between Edo and Delta states in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo state

It was gathered that the six victims were kidnapped around 6pm on Friday while returning from a game at Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

A source in the community said the kidnappers had contacted some families demanding a ransom of N5m each for the victims.

He said: “They (footballers) went to Owa-Alero to play football match so, on their way back, they were kidnapped at Uronigbe area, the boundary between Delta and Edo State.

“The victims include Mrs Precious Agbajor, one Abraham, Nancy, Beatrice, the driver and one other person. They are six in number that is in the kidnapper’s den. The matter has been reported to the Uronigbe police station.

3. Troops battle, kill scores of bandits in Kaduna

The combined troops of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force have neutralized scores of bandits in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

The Commissioner said the state government was informed of the feat recorded by the troops.

According to him, after a fierce battle with the hoodlums, dangerous weapons were recovered from them by the troops.

This, he said, include two General Purpose Machine Guns, three AK47 rifles, and seven motorcycles.

The Commissioner said, “Security forces recorded a major success in ongoing operations against terrorists, as scores of bandits were neutralized by ground troops and air assets during an operation in Galbi, Chikun local government area.

“This was conveyed in an operational feedback to the Kaduna State Government from the security agencies.

4. 2023: Presidential candidates to pay N10m for campaign posters in Anambra

PRESIDENTIAL candidates of the various political parties who wish to mount or paste  their posters anywhere in Anambra State for the purposes of the 2023 elections are to pay N10m, according to a statement by the Anambra Signage and Advertising Agency(ANSAA).

A public notice issued yesterday by the managing director of the agency, Mr. Tony Ujubuonu also said that senatorial candidates are to pay N7 million, while House of Representatives candidates are to pay N5 million. Similarly, those wishing to contest for the state House of Assembly are to pay N1 million.

The agency also pegged the statutory costs for out -of- home media and mobile advertising at  N100,000 for 48 sheets billboards, N500,000 for spectacular billboards, N500,000 gantry displays, N100,000 for irregular shaped billboard; N50,000 for branded vehicle and N5,000 for tricycle rear branding respectively.

The state government has also banned the pasting of posters on bridges and road demarcations along the streets of the state, just as it prohibited the pasting of campaign posters on street light poles; roundabout and other public buildings.

5. MAPOLY beauty queen abducted, killed by kidnappers in Ogun

A student of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Happiness Odeh, has been reportedly killed by her abductors.

Odeh, it was gathered, won the Miss MAPOLY beauty contest on August 3, 2022.

The ND2 student of Mass Communication was said to have been kidnapped on her way to Ipara, in Ode Remo on Tuesday evening

Vanguard gathered that the beauty queen was kidnapped along Iperu road by unknown persons who it was gathered, raped her before killing her in cold blood.

6. Adeboye anoints special handkerchiefs for members

AS the icing to the cake General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye yesterday asked members of Church and all guests at the ongoing 70th convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God at the Redemption City Nigeria.

The set man did this in the presence of a surprised visitor and the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi and lot of other eminent attendees of the 40th Convention at the Redemption City which is 42 years old.

Worshippers were as surprised as Mr Peter Obi who was visiting the camp for first time in his lifetime as the General Overseer of the church watched and prayed in tongues for a few moments after preaching on the topic of Perfect Jubilee while the handkerchiefs were raised in wide ecstacy as the governor or Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel and other political big wigs looked wide astonishment.

Pastor Adeboye who dod give room for politicians to utter any word to the crowd of worshippers, made the proclamation that the so anointed has the capacity to wade off all evil that comes the way of the handlers and their onlookers therefrom.

7. Police commence investigation as cultists murder two in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa Police Command has commenced investigation into the murder of two persons by suspected cult members in the State.

The incident occured two days ago at the Ogbogoro community in Yenagoa Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the deceased, Tuesday Fati, 30, and Famizibe Clarkson, 25, were allegedly murdered in their homes in the community by the suspected cultists.

Spokesman for the command Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident.

In a statement on Saturday, Butswat said the command had commenced investigation into the accident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings.

He said: “The deceased identified as one Tuesday Fati, aged 30, and one Famizibe Clarkson, 25, were murdered inside their apartment at Ogbogboro community, Yenagoa on August 12, 2022, at about 0330 hours.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victims were killed in what appears to be suspected cult activities. The corpses were evacuated and deposited at mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for autopsy.”

8. Sylva wins defamation case in US

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva has emerged victorious in a case of defamation he filed against Jackson Ude of Pointblank News in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

An electronic copy of a settlement agreement entered by Sylva and Ude to discontinue the case filed in the court presided over by Joseph F. Leeson Jr. showed that Ude agreed to take down, delete and destroy all articles and publications alleging any criminal or other misconduct by Sylva appearing on Pointblank News website and his social media accounts.

Part of the agreement said: “Thereafter, if Sylva reasonably discovers any article or publication violative of this agreement still existing, Sylva will inform Ude first and give Ude reasonable notice (no longer than one week absent extraordinary circumstances) to delete before such may be seemed as a breach.

“Ude will not directly or indirectly engage in any act either to harass or spread false information against Sylva.
“Ude will not directly or indirectly publish any false or defamatory information about Sylva, with liquidated damages of $25,000, per any such publication and attorney to the winner of any litigation therefrom”.

Sylva and Ude were asked to within seven days execute the necessary stipulation to dismiss the defamation lawsuit.

The agreement was jointly drafted by Sylva’s lawyer, Michael Cilento and Ude’s lawyer, Benneth Amadi.

9. I was humbled by warm welcome at RCCG Redemption City – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, Labour Party flag bearer for the 2023 presidential election, has acknowledged the reception he received on Friday at Redeemed Christian Church of God camp.

DAILY POST earlier reported that the former Anambra governor was at the RCCG Redemption City formerly called Redemption Camp on Friday night for its ongoing convection tagged Perfect Jubilee.

According to a video which trended earlier on Saturday, Obi’s introduction at the church was greeted with loud cheers from participants of the event, which was tagged ‘Perfect Jubilee’.

Speaking on the development, Obi in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, said he was humbled by the warm welcome he received at the event.

10. Police foil kidnap attempt on village head in Kano

Police in Kano State has foiled a kidnap attempt of a village head of Garun Babba, Abdulmuminu Mudi in Garun Malam Local Government Area, Kano State.

The spokesman of the command SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa stated this in a press statement issued to DAILY POST.

He said police on Tuesday received a report that scores of gunmen on Motorcycles stormed Garun Babba village and kidnapped the Village Head.

He explained that after receiving the report the acting commissioner of police, DCP Abubakar Zubairu, raised a combined team of Policemen and Local Vigilante of the area to rescue the village head and arrest the culprits.

Kiya said the team succeeded in trailing the perpetrators and the victim was rescued unhurt and the suspects took to their heels and abandoned their three motorcycles.
