1. No one can distract me, says Gov Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated that he will not be distracted by any person who has a problem with himself, saying that Ogun State is not anybody’s fiefdom.

Abiodun made this known during an interview with newsmen shortly after the grand finale of the 50th anniversary of the Abeokuta Club, insisting that he would not join issues with anyone that wanted to play God.

Though he did not mention any name, the governor’s statement was apparently in response to the statement of his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who had at the same venue, the previous day, alleged his own party, the All Progressives Congress, of rigging the 2019 election in favour of the incumbent.

2. Edo urges vaccination against deadly hepatitis

The Edo State Government has urged residents to get vaccinated against hepatitis.

The Director, Disease Control and Immunization, Dr. Gideon Iraoyah, said this at an event to mark the 2022 World Hepatitis Day in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Iraoyah said awareness was key in the management of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that results in severe liver disease and cancer.

According to him, the state government will continue to rally stakeholders in the health sector, to strengthen advocacy on the dangers of hepatitis.

3. Osun APC condemns members’ killing during PDP crisis

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Saturday alleged that hoodlums working for the Peoples Democratic Party in the state “killed two APC members” during a fracas in Ede.

A statement by the Media Adviser to the chairman, Kola Olabisi, said the disagreement ensued during sharing of money by some PDP members.

The statement read, “the PDP and their handlers should be reminded that the state is a product of the law and no individual, no matter his status in the society, would be allowed to turn our peaceful state into a theatre of war under the administration of the peace-loving and easy-going Governor Oyetola.

4. Borno Police arrest woman with three abducted children

Borno State Police Command have arrested a woman suspected to be a human trafficker with two abducted Almajiri children, and a two years old baby girl.

The woman who is cooling off in Police custody was arrested on her way to Abuja from Maiduguri.

The Police spokesman in Borno State ASP Sani Kamilu Muhammed who made the confirmation in a telephone interview said that the suspected trafficker was arrested with the children, but asked for time to get full details on the matter from the Metro police division investigating the case.

5. Troops over-run terrorists in fierce Monguno, Abbari encounter

Gallant Troops of Operation Hadin Kai on Friday eliminated six terrorists and repelled terrorist’s attack on Monguno and the military formation in Abbari Kasuwan Shani in recent encounters in Borno.

Sources said the troops successfully repelled the attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and eliminated scores of them in Monguno, in the North East of Borno state.

The terrorists had invaded the town in large numbers at about 8:30 pm with gun trucks, motorcycles and heavy weapons and began to shoot sporadically in the air.

6. Commonwealth Games: Favour Ofili wins silver in women’s 200m

Favour Ofili ran a time of 22.51 to win silver in the women’s 200m event at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.

7. Kidnapped Ondo Chief, others regain freedom

The Oniku of Iku quarters in Ikare Akoko, High Chief Mukaila Bello and three others abducted on Thursday have been freed.

Their abductors demanded N50m and it was not clear, as at press time if any ransom was paid for their release.

Others abducted alongside Chief Mukaila were a former House of Assembly candidate for Akoke Northeast constituency, Yeye Gbafinro, Hon Adeiran Adeyemo and Mr. Bashiru Adekile.

8. Tinubu will employ additional tactics to tackle security challenges — Keyamo

Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign, Festus Keyamo has said the party’s standard bearer Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

will consolidate on the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Keyamo noted that Buhari’s administration has done well in terms of infrastructure, rail and agriculture.

He noted that Tinubu is prepared to employ additional tools and tactics to compliment the present work in progress geared towards tackling security in the country.

9. ASUU strike: Delaying decisions means postponing evil day – JAMB Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede has appealed to striking lecturers to resume.

Oloyede made the appeal on Saturday while monitoring the 2022 mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

More than 42,000 candidates participated in the exercise conducted in 45 centres in five states.

The examination was organized for candidates who could not participate in the nationwide test which was held in May.

Oloyede appealed to parties to reach a truce to ensure affected students return to the classrooms.

10. Police arrest man accused of drugging, robbing 30 women in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Ifeanyi Ezenagu for allegedly robbing women of their belongings.

Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin announced the arrest in a statement on Saturday.

The 34-year-old was arrested by the detectives of the Surulere Division after complaints by six persons.

Ezenagu allegedly stole three iPhone 12, two iPhone 11 Pro Max, one iPhone XR, one Nokia phone, one wristwatch, and one gold necklace all valued at N2,368,000.
