1. Insecurity: Buhari lacks solution, Nigeria not ‘failed state’ – Onaiyekan
The regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), seems to have no solution to the security challenges in Nigeria, Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, said on Saturday.
Onaiyekan, a former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, believed that the state of insecurity in the country was making almost every aspect of “our national life problematic.”
He expressed these views in his keynote address delivered during the special citizens’ summit in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the National Association of Seadogs, popularly known as Pyrates Confraternity in Abuja, with the theme, ‘The state of the nation.’
2. Unite to ensure victory, Buhari urges APC leaders
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Friday in Daura, urged members of the All Progressives Congress “to sit together,” unite and cooperate with one another to ensure victory in the 2023 elections.
According to a statement signed on Saturday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari spoke when he received the Katsina State governorship candidate of the APC, Dr Dikko Radda, and his running mate, Faruk Jobe, at his residence.
In the statement titled ‘To succeed at elections, President Buhari asks APC to unify its ranks,” he said party leaders need “to sit together,” to avoid divisions and ensure unity in order to avoid defeat at the elections.
3. Buhari to attend US-Africa Leaders’ summit in Washington DC
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will on Sunday, December 11, depart for Washington DC, USA, to join other African leaders at the United States-Africa Leaders Summit.
In a statement signed on Saturday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari will address his counterparts from various countries on the topic: Conservation, Climate Adaptation and a Just Energy Transition, with special emphasis on Just Energy Transition.
The statement is titled ‘President Buhari leaves for US- Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington.’
According to Shehu, “The High-Level Meeting which holds December 13-15 is at the instance of the United States President, Joe Biden, who looks forward to ‘working with African governments, civil society, diaspora communities across the United States, and the private sector to continue strengthening our shared vision for the future of US-Africa relations.’

Former Minister of Education, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili has said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi scores highest in the rating among the top two candidates in the 2023 presidential race and she will vote for him ahead of others.
Ezekwesili said this during Channels Television Hard Copy programme, adding that Obi and the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party – Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar respectively can easily be rated.
The former Vice President for the African Region of the World Bank said the top three candidates can easily be rated with public information available and having done her ratings, Obi is ahead of two other contestants.
“To the specific issue of a presidential candidacy, what I said and which I repeat everywhere that I am asked is that I look at the other two candidates and I rate them immediately on the basis of what we know, and for the three candidates there is publicly available information with which to do the rating.
5. Rivers 2023: Sekibo accuses Wike, LG boss of sponsoring attack on Maeba
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council has accused the Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government (LG), Rivers State, Hon George Ariolu, of sponsoring Thursday’s attack on the Port Harcourt home of Sen Lee Maeba on the orders of Governor Nyesom Wike.
However, Rivers State Government and the ruling PDP have repeatedly denied any hand in the incident, accusing Sen Maebe of stage-managing the episode.
The alleged armed invasion by about 200 suspected political thugs on the GRA residence of Maeba, Chairman of Rivers PDP Presidential Campaign Council, reportedly left his cars vandalised and elder brother brutalised.
In a statement on Saturday, Sir Abiye Sekibo, Director, Rivers State Campaign Management Committee of the PDP Presidential Council, said, “The dastardly unprovoked attack on the residence of Maeba was carried out by some political thugs allegedly sponsored by the Obio Akpor Council Chairman.”
6. Delegating answers in Chatham shows Tinubu is dynamic, says PCC member, Ajiboye
The Assistant Director of Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council APC-PCC, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye has defended the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his decision to ask members of his team to answer some questions put across to him after his address in Chatham House, in the United Kingdom on Monday December 5, 2022.
Ajiboye spoke on Arise Television’s news programme, Prime Time anchored by Charles Aniagolu on the topic; “Tinubu’s Chatham House Appearance.”
Ajiboye stated that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu spoke for 28 minutes to deliver his lecture in Chatham House, which he said was clear in the brains of those who cared to listen, but that some people just wanted to criticise him.
He stressed that Bola Tinubu is a newsmaker, and that anything he does attracts attention, but that some people are hurt and sometimes come up with diatribes and news analysis as well as news reportage on the issues affecting him the way they want.

7. Massive crowd at APC Northeast women rally
There was a massive crowd of supporters of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the Northeast when the women wing of the party’s campaign took place in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Saturday .
The wives of the APC Presidential candidate Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Mrs Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice presidential candidate Kashim Shettima graced the rally with wives of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamiala and Governers of Lagos and Cross Rivers.
Others were wives of Kogi, Gombe, Yobe and Plateau Governors, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hon Khadija Ibrahim and others.
Addressing supporters at the rally ground at the Ramat Sqaure Maiduguru, Mrs. Tinubu promised to empower youths and women if APC wins.
8. Wike bags doctorate degree, donates N1bn to varsity
Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has been conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Law Degree (Honoris Causa) by the Rivers State University (RSU).
The Governor, who donated N1bn to the school, called for a change in the educational standard insisting that the RSU must benchmark its academic programmes to meet global demands.
Wike, who spoke in Port Harcourt at the 34th Convocation of RSU on Saturday in Port Harcourt, said his administration had invested funds generously to improve infrastructure in the school and establish faculties particularly the College of Medical Sciences.

9. Four persons remanded for alleged destruction of campaign billboards in Kwara
Four suspects have been remanded for the alleged destruction of campaign billboards and posters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The state Police Commissioner, Paul Odama, who disclosed this to newsmen in Ilorin, said, “after their arrest, we hurriedly did an investigation, charged them to court and were remanded even before anyone could call me.”
Asked if there was pressure on the matter, the police commissioner said, “of course there was no pressure, and nobody called me to set them free.”
He also clarified that the suspects were of different political parties and not just members of a particular party in the state.
Odama expressed concern that as campaigns gather momentum, some political parties have recently destroyed the billboards of other political parties.
