1. Osun PDP loses Reps candidate
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Irewole/Isokan/Ayedaade Federal Constituency, in Osun state in the 2023 general election, Mr. Sola Arabambi, has died.
An aide to the late Arabambi, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the development, saying his principal died on Saturday during a brief illness.
In a release by his Media Office, the ex-governorship aspirant on the platform of the PDP in Osun State, Prince Dotun Babayemi, said Arabambi’s death was hurtful, describing him as a man who was sincere about his desires to serve his people.
2. Kidnappers demand N100m for Ondo monarch’s release
After 72 hours in their den, the abductors of the traditional ruler, Oba Clement Jimoh of Oso Ajowa Akoko in Akoko West Local Government Area of of Ondo State, have contacted the family of the victim, demanding a sum of N100 million to secure his release.
Oba Jimoh was abducted on Thursday at about 10.15 pm at his residence by some armed men who took him to an unknown destination.
It was learned that when the gunmen stormed the residence of the victim, they shot sporadically into the air.
They also shot at the monarch’s main door to gain access into his residential building before whisking him away.
3. Power outage affects healthcare services in Borno
The destruction of the national grid along Damaturu-Maiduguri highway by Boko Haram insurgents on January 27, 2021, has continued to affect the services of healthcare delivery institutions in Borno State.
Although the Federal and Borno State government officials have been making frantic efforts to restore connections to areas still suffering blackout due to the destruction, some of the healthcare delivery institutions in Maiduguri are powered by diesel-consuming generators.
Break in the supply of diesel to these hospitals halts all services requiring electricity, aggravating the conditions of the patients. State officials are, however, yet to issue casualty figures following this development.
Governor Babagana Zulum of the state paid unannounced visits to two of such hospitals – Umaru Shehu Ultramodern Hospital and Ali Sheriff Maternity Hospital in Maiduguri, around 10pm od Friday, December 2, finding patients in darkness due to power failure that had lingered for a number of days.

4. NIPSS: Buhari assures of timely implementation of report
President Muhammadu Buhari has assured graduands of the Senior Executive Course 44 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS that the findings and recommendations contained in their recently submitted report would be attended to and applied by his government for the good of the country.
SEC 44, 2022 worked on the theme: Strengthening local governance in Nigeria: Challenges, options, and opportunities.
The President challenged the National Institute to strive to be or even surpass the best think-tank amongst policy institutions in the world as his administration would continue to give the Institute the needed support to deliver on its mandate.
This is as the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo while delivering a lecture at the Institute called for the devolution of powers to the local government to enable the third tier of government to be more responsive to the people at the grassroots.
5. UNICEF empowers Anambra flood victims with multi million naira worth of items
THE United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, yesterday donated items worth millions of naira to the victims of the recent flood that affected seven local government areas of Anambra State.
The items include 100 drums of chlorine for disinfection of water sources. 40 cartons of Aquatabs for household water treatment and 320 cartons of Ready to Use therapeutic food (RUTF).
The items were handover to the state deputy governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim who represented Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the ceremony.
Chief of UNICEF Field Office, Enugu, Mrs Juliet Chiluwe acknowledged that the 2022 flood was the worst in a decade, adding that it affected 2.8 million people, of which an estimated 60 per cent were children, across 34 of the 36 states in Nigeria.
6. Stop destroying INEC properties, youths warned
Amid the upsurge of attacks on the properties of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, President of the Princeton Leadership Forum, Dr. Chibuike Echem, has warned youths to desist from the act.
Speaking during a press conference in Abuja ahead of the Princeton leadership summit, Echem said election periods were times to elect leaders and not a time for war and destruction.
He said, “Today we want to speak to Nigerians, especially with the situation of things in the country as regards the destruction of INEC properties and the violence relating to the electoral process, it is important that we understand that as young people in this country, the country belongs to us.
“The process of electioneering is for us to be able to elect credible leaders with capacity and empathy to govern us as a people.

7. Muslim leaders, organisations pray for Tinubu’s victory in Oyo
Islamic leaders and organisations across Oyo State on Saturday prayed for the victory of presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
They also declared support for Tinubu as their preferred presidential candidate in 2023..
The programme tagged ‘National prayer for Bola Tinubu’s endorsement’ held at Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resorts located in Ona-Ara area of Ibadan .
The weekly events, which featured series of endorsement for Tinubu, is sponsored by the Otun-Apesinola of Ibadanland, Chief Dotun Sanusi, the owner of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resorts.
8. DSS vows to deal ruthlessly with terrorists, bandits
The Department of State Services (DSS) has vowed to deal ruthlessly with terrorists, bandits and other subversive elements threatening the peace of the country.
The Director-General State Services (DG SS), Yusuf Bichi, said this on Saturday at the graduation ceremony held in honour of participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC15), at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja.
A total of 74 participants of the directorate/executive cadre, drawn from Nigeria, the Gambia, Ghana, as well as Niger Republic, participated in the 2022 course.
Bichi warned against attempts by subversive elements to undermine the authority, unity and corporate existence of the nation.

Deji Adeyanju, a socio-political activist, on Saturday, described the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his counterpart from Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, as business partners.
Adeyanju said those voting for Obi are doing the same for Atiku.
