1. Prepare for ‘Bring Back Our Old Notes’ protest —Group

The North Central Youth Stakeholders Forum, has called on Nigerians to prepare to embark on a mass “Bring Back Our Old Notes” protest, should the naira scarcity persist beyond February 5, 2023.

The group made the call on Saturday, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mohammed Mohammed, in response to an appeal made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, to the Central Bank of Nigeria not to extend the naira swap deadline beyond February 10, 2023.

Atiku’s statement came after the CBN on Sunday, January 29, had extended the deadline until February 10. He said there should be no further extension of the deadline because “vote riggers are seeking to push the CBN to extend till after the election, when they would have achieved their evil plots.”

2. Naira scarcity: Artisans reject cash transfer in Sokoto

As scarcity of naira hits the country, some artisans in Sokoto State have continued to rejects money transfer in exchange of cash payment.

Our correspondent who monitored the development in the state gathered that majority of artisans in the state rejected money transfer due to network problem.

Speaking with our correspondent on the reasons behind the decision, Yusuf Welder said he decided to stop the idea of receiving transfer because most of such transfer ended up reversing back to the sender.

“I can’t take transfer as payment for my service at all, if you transfer money to me where would I get the money from.

3. Three killed in attacks on Ethiopian Orthodox church

Three people have been killed in attacks on a church in southern Ethiopia on Saturday, according to reports by a religious media outlet.

The violence erupted against a backdrop of tensions in the ancient Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church after rebel bishops created their own synod in Oromia, the country’s most populous region.
Archbishop of Addis Ababa Diocese, Abune Henok, described the incidents in the Oromia city of Shashamene as “shameful and heartwrenching”, according to the Church-affiliated Tewahedo Media Center (TMC).The TMC said two Orthodox Christian youths had been killed, and another four people injured, when Oromia special forces attacked the church in Shashamene, which lies about 250 kilometres (150 miles) south of Addis Ababa.

7. Tension as soldiers invade Lagos community, torture residents, mark 200 buildings for demolition

Gunmen have shot dead the presiding President of Ejemekwuru Customary Court in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, Nnaemeka Ugboma.
The gunmen ambushed the court president, dragged him out of the court room while the Court was in session and shot him dead at a close range.

The Nation gathered that the gunmen, who came on motorbikes, shot sporadically as the people fled the scene.

The Red Devils seemed to be coasting to three points before Casemiro was shown a straight red card after a VAR check.
